In terms of movies, I can think of Memento, The Man From Earth and Fight Club.
In terms of games, I'd venture to say The Stanley Parable and The Witness.
I would tell you all about them, but I really wouldn't. For your own sake.

The Stanley parable, I loved that game!! :D
I'd also suggest to play Scanner Sombre, just because it is so unique.
And I have What Remains of Edith Finch on my wishlist. I expect a lot from this game.

Observer comes to mind first. If you haven't played The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, I'd suggest that one as well. Edit for one more - Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

Well... it has four slightly different endings, but the choices before are much more significant in terms of the story. None of them are significant when it comes to gameplay, except maybe for the short stealth section part.

Doki Doki Literature Club, definitely. This is a game that really affects you, but only if you go in blind and are really patient with it. But it's definitely my most memorable gaming experience of 2017. And it's free on steam.

In what regard? Story, Gameplay, something else? I don't think there exists any need/must play game. Well, anyways, first game coming to my mind from my library would probably be Oxenfree which has been mentioned before already.

Other than that maybe DreadOut although there is a good chance you won't get the story by playing the game as it needs some brain input here and there.

Our Darker Purpose also has a rather disturbing (possible) conclusion to its story. Although it is all in the background and told in the lore Sheets. You can play and enjoy the gameplay totally fine without ever caring for it. But yea, there seems to really be a darker purpose.

Wait - Extended also has some nice moments.

Also a game you need to play: Gal*Gun - Double Peace :P

Having just finished playing, I definitely think What Remains of Edith Finch falls into that category. It's one of the most creative games I've played in a while but I really wouldn't know how to do it justice with words

The impact this game had was 50% bolstered by me going into it think it was going to be one thing and then it completely was not that thing. I was caught unawares and it was spectacular.

I went into that knowing nothing about it but expected a similar experience to the Stanley Parable. I was pleasantly surprised because although I love the Stanley Parable, the experience with The Beginner's Guide was unique and engrossing.

I had only heard that it was a unique and important piece of narrative fiction before going into it. Although it feels autobiographical a lot of the time, so I dunno if fiction is the right word...

Cautionary "marmite" stamp on this, because suspension of disbelief only goes so far, and without that, the journey and conclusion have no impact. This is a real love it or hate it kind of game. Sadly the whole thing was a biiiig ol' wiffle for me.

It portrays itself as non-fiction, so when the believability takes various nosedives, the impact of any revelations it can make is massively reduced. After that happens, trying to readjust to appreciate it on a fictional level is difficult. It loses its intimacy when that happens, and without a satisfying conclusion it just didn't have any entertainment value for me, and just felt like lost time.

The House in Fata Morgana might be this, because while it has a fairly not-too-out-there premise (you wake up in a mansion, don't remember who you are, but there's a Maid there who knows you and talks to you, and you explore the mansion to find out your identity) the narrative grows, folds in on itself, and has so many levels to it that that premise becomes nearly inconsequential by, like, 30% into the game.

I wouldn't say this is a must-play game, but Pole No Daibouken is a game best experienced without knowing anything about it beforehand (except that it's currently only in Japanese, unfortunately).
