i am pretty sure that a majority of the valve game giveaways are from people that won the complete collection in the potato arg thing. people like giving away stuff that is lying around doing nothing... that would explain the lack of orange box giveaways.

Your post itself talks about too much HL2 and Portal giveaways (which is true, but what will you do?), but your title says otherwise.

heh yeah its a lot but i've seen accs with 4oo or even 600 games on them. and i won 6 games here on a lucky spree during the first week of the site. havent won anything after the first week though, but well, im not complaining. i just don't like hitting the 300 point cap and having nothing to do with them. i still have 2 unused invites flying around, too...

I mean I totally get you. Steam has exactly bazilliomillion games but the general games that everyone buys and raffles here are fairly common and mainstream. Basic statistics, most people buy and play the same games.

not quite complaining. i'm just bringing up a point. i would just like to see more Dawn of War 1, SEGA genesis collection, commander keen, earthworm jim etc on here rather than another 200 giveaways of portal, just to name a few

That'd be awesome. I freaking love Dawn of War. But Portal was given out on so many occasions. The only way for that happen is if they did a promotion for another game, which would be another Valve Game most likely.

Steam gifts is successful because of the random "i bought this in a pack and don't know what to do with it giveaways." Yes only 15 people enter the portal giveaways anymore, but that is 15 people who do not have a game they would otherwise have to pay for. Isn't that kinda the point of the site?
On a side note, Valve is genius giving away free copies of portal with a portal 2 purchase. Everyone gifts portal away to people who love the original so much they go out and buy Portal 2.

I must say I do agree with you though that being said. I being one who owns most of the valve games and have no need to enter them. The games I do enter have 600+ entries. It would be nice if everyone had less points (maybe 5% per giveaway instead of 10%). That way there were better odds of winning games. People would have to pick and choose a little more rather than enter every giveaway they see just to stay under the 300 point cap. I remember reading that the idea of the cap was to limit accounts who forget about the site and log back in with 1000 points from entering everything. It has become more of a tool to force people into entering everything they can.

I still don't have most of the Source engine games and bidding on them daily. But seriously, steamgifts needs more non-Source games. Maybe after we all manage to pay our Summer Sale bills...

Don't we have enough copies of Portal and Half Life 2 by now? On that note, why does no one ever give away the whole orange box? (although that would probably be only helpful for folks like me)
