With all these birthday topics around full of joy and happiness, the great misery befell me and my family.

My poor cat died recently and hereby I declare the rest of this month as June of Sadness.

Our family always loved both cats and dogs but this cat was special to me - he was MINE.

I have chosen him out of the pack of young kittens, raised him, fed him, played with him and he returned his love to me with the most precious thing any animal can offer - his trust.

He came to me every night to sleep with me while purring all the time to bring me to sleep, he did me company and was my valuable friend in times of my loneliness.

Rest in Peace, my friend.

Days of Sorrow:

Day 1: Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold when he is only sad. (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
Day 2: What you must understand about me is that I’m a deeply unhappy person. (John Green)
Day 3: Any fool can be happy. It takes a man with real heart to make beauty out of the stuff that makes us weep. (Clive Barker)

I would like to thank you all for your condolences; I do believe every one of us (or at least most of us) have or ever had an animal they loved so you know the feeling...

While it's not going to be very important for you (definately not more than "special" Days of Sorrow), I will be updating this post on daily basis with some trivia related to my cat:

  1. His name was Pusík - that could be translated very roughly as Mr Kisses in my language.
  2. He joined me when I was 13 y.o. after all our previous cats met their untimely death and our family almost decided to never get any cat anymore.
  3. My mom also adopted his brother to keep him company.

So sorry to read. My condolences. An animals trust is indeed the most valuable thing they have to offer, nothing goes as deep as this, along with their warmth, their affection, their playfulness, and their love they are giving so freely.

I'm so sorry, carneval, and it reminds me of my own cat that I had the privilege of sharing 15 years with. They bring so much to our lives, but it's a sad reality that we'll most likely outlive them and will someday have to say goodbye.

Thank you, mate. You are right about outliving them, 15 years can be considered as blessing though :)

I'm sorry for your dog. 18 years is a lot, our dogs died 1-2 years ago while being approx. 12. Interesting fact about it was that mother outlived her son by nearly 1 year.

I'm really sad to hear that, what was your cat's name? He looks like he was a really handsome kitty.

I had a pet who was MINE like that when I was young, and after she died suddenly in an accident it really crushed me. It sounds like you had lots of really good memories, so try to think of the good times or funny moments that you had together. I know for me that helped when I was really missing her badly.

Sometimes pets can give us more love than other humans, and without all of the drama. Just pure affection!

So far this was always true to my case. Sorry for your own loss but you are right, remembering the good is the goal.

I feel your pain. I really do. Some pets are just extra special. Sounds like your kitty was one of those. When you are sad sometimes it helps to remember what a happy full life you gave him.

same. :( But died years ago at 11 yo. I can pet stray cats but can't find the strength to have another at home (or two to keep each other company)... Condolences to the carneval. ;_;

16 years is far above average for a cat - you were really blessed. Don't hesitate to make another step one day (not a new step, next step)
