I have the original version of all 3 of them on Steam.
Does that make me an important video game preservationist now? 😄 /s

You just downgrade it. You need a few essential mods, the downgrader being one of them.

Interesting 🤔 I never knew San Andreas lost some tracks due to licencing issues.
You'd assume they could use some of that money they print with GTA Online to pay those artists almost indefinitely.
But I also have GTA I and II. Surely that must be worthy of the Smithsonian? 😅

Honestly I never understood the concept of limited-time licensing rights, feels like a concept made by idiots for idiots :x
I also never understood Rockstar's handling of the first two GTAs, at some point they were available to download for free from their website, then they put them for sale on some storefronts, then they removed them from sale forever because reasons :/

Originally, it seems they just AI upscaled the mobile versions of the games, and changed some stuff; like removing the fog and adding rain effects (both changes looked terrible).
Now they had manually fixed some of the issues and I think the fog was added back or is an option; to hide the game's render distances.
Im not sure what else changed, but the topping was, they REMOVED the original games from ALL Store fronts to sell the definitive edittion; but given how bad it was, they gave the original games on THEIR PC launcher; while everyone else could not get said games anymore.

That's what I was thinking 10$ maybe 15$ max. 30$ no way. Look at Mass Effect Legendary Edition it's already 15$ for 3 old games, with tons of DLC content aswell.

After Rockstar took away the original games from Steam, they bring the DEFINITIVE edition with such a high price after ALL the sh* that happends, then add a "launch" discount?. NO THANK YOU. They really think its been long enough to make this move with SUCH a price. If after ALL this they were to make those FREE, not even then I would "buy", they lost all credibility and prove to still be out of touch.
Im gonna keep playing my Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on my goddam PlayStation2.

nah, doesn't look much clever spend all that money on something that should be waaaay cheaper...

No, already mixed reviews because devs forgot about optimization. And this remaster pretty pointless, some visual improvement but no real changes of outdated elements. If they introduced mission checkpoints i might have bought it because in vanilla version playing some missions can be so frustrating.

Release on Steam to let the review going negative more, smart way Rockstar but not for what we want

What a blatant cash grab the remaster was.
Just throwing on textures of cartoonish colors so it would be appealing to the fortnite crowd. A spit in a face to anyone who grew up with the series

It's actually much, much, much worse, as everything they could do wrong, they did.
It's like they put extra effort in fucking up everything they could. Quoting PC Gaming Wiki:
Based off the broken, and infamously worse mobile ports of the game
...PC ports of ~10 years old mobile ports of PC ports of PS2 ports... we're already off to a great start.
...alongside new censors and modification to the original game release.
Because the most important thing in a remaster, or in a game in general, is fidelity... to modern censorship standards, that is.
Game textures have been upscaled using AI, resulting in grammar and spelling errors alongside poor quality textures, and the art style no longer fits the modern graphics.
AI is the future... or is it?
It utilizes Unreal Engine 4 for the new visual fidelity, meanwhile using RenderWare for everything else.
Yeah, mixing two engines from two completely different eras is totally gonna work flawlessly, I'm sure of it.
The original release (1.0) features a non-encrypted archive which is the only version to support modding.
Because the most logical thing to do when updating the games 'cause they were utter crap, was obviously to take out the only thing they had actually done right. At least this mishap of theirs means there's a downgrade path available, for all it's worth.
Removed the custom soundtrack (all 3), player skin functionalities (III and VC), and saving statistics (SA) that were in the original version.
Removed this, removed that, removed those... and they still have the guts to call them "definitive" editions.
But hey, credits given where it's due, they did add something that the originals didn't have...
What? Huh, why, everybody's beloved Rockstar Games Launcher, of course!
This year's "worst gaming company" award is gonna be a real tough fight.

Lol, everyone comes back to Steam when their crappy games don't sell on their crappy launchers.
As someone who 100% GTA III and Vice City. I've already had my fill. Can wait till 90% off or till they delist it again for an even crappier re-make.
