Should I continue my pursuit of 100% completions?
I am not much into steam achievements so I think you should try to tackle your backlog first. :)

I was never into achievements. The only thing I care about is completing the story mode. When done, I consider that game completed and move on to the next. Since I have a large backlog myself and I am sure I will never manage to play all the games I want to, I can waste no time.
You, on the other hand, have a large backlog but enjoy achievements so my advice is to go for 100% only for games that you love, not just like.

I'd say whichever would give you the most pleasure. Out of the two options does a more 100% complete games finished or a overall smaller backlog sound better to you? You could always go in the middle and only do 100% on the top notch favorite titles while speeding through others that aren't as exciting. Also, thanks for the gibs!

I'm not going for 100% achievements because it would simply take way too much time. Even just completing all humble monthly games without 100%ing their achivements can be tough sometimes.

I started down this road, but had to abandon the struggle.
Have way too many games to play let alone achievement completion.
I did try a few of them, but after days of struggle with the last one, numerous headaches and dizziness, decided it's not that good for my health. :D

Usually I don't care about getting 100% achievements, too much grinding for me. Only when I really like the game and don't want it to end, will I try to get them.

What I'd say is only go for completion on games you're still enjoying. For instance on Xbox 360 I 100%-ed metal gear rising revengence and Bayonetta because I still found them enjoyable after multiple playthroughs

Should I carry on as I am or discontinue my efforts?
I gave up trying to get everything to 100% as it would mean that I would need to drop / won't start games that I can't finish, possibly missing out of some good games, and I didn't want this. I still try to get as many achievements as I can, especially the fun ones, or the ones that require relatively low effort or time (or the grindy ones if I can do them over the course of a longer time period) - but stopped worrying about the ... really achivement-like achievement? It's surely nice to play a game from start to finish on hardest difficulty while not getting hit, finding every collectible while also cooking a cake for the devs while playing, but that's just not fun for me. IF I do enjoy the game and it's challenge, I'll try them, but don't take it too hard if I won't be able to do it.
In short, I suggest you to prioritize the game and it's enjoyment before 100%, but if you can do both of them, do it :)

I myself like to strive for 100% but some achievements are just plain tedious. I find myself more free when I finally allow myself to put aside a game and focus on something else that will give me more fun. I do intend to go back to get the cheeves, but there are some games which I'll label a lost cause (hello, Tales of Maj'eyal and Sword of the Stars: The Pits).
I do find myself delaying some more tedious cheeves indefinitely, but looking back, I think I'm fine with that. I try to find some easy to complete games and past the time with that, and also feel some sense of accomplishment.

I used to try to 100% every game but realise I've wasted so much time grinding or doing repetitive side stuff in games that didn't deserve it, so now I usually only play a game until the credits roll.
Most importantly, do whatever is fun for you, if thats 100%'ing every game, do that and don't worry about your unplayed games. If you think you're wasting time completing a bad game, throw it aside and get going on the next one on the list.

So I am facing a personal dilemma for the new year. I am a completionist when it comes to achievements, only skipping multi player as it holds little interest to me. The 2 titles I am currently playing to 100% completion will reach me the 100 perfect games milestone on my profile but I am facing an ever increasing backlog. Should I carry on as I am or discontinue my efforts? I do enjoy most of the achievements as they cause me to play the games differently to how I would normally though there are some horribly grindy ones I have completed.
Some bits to take into consideration. My backlog of incomplete titles is 1303 according to Darkadia. Around 2/3rds contain achievements. My installed games (all from my wishlist) amounts to 120. I am subscribed to the Humble Monthly and this is where I get the majority of my new games now. This sale I have bought myself 1 new title as I have plenty already to play (+ any I may win here). All thoughts welcome.
Oh yes and the gifts
