idk about your place but why you didn't just call someone like family or a friend or just took a taxi? Also next time check your bike before starting searching for jobs...
Comment has been collapsed.
Last time I used my bike was all good and dandy, only thing that happened with my bike before today was family cleaned garage so I thought should've been fine qq And ya calling for a ride is a good idea but parents at work an the friends I have who have a car were at work/out of state so rip

At least you HAD an interview. I've been out of work since the end of April with no luck on even one callback. I have a feeling that I was right all along. No one is going to hire me. Pessimism is my form of optimism. Why? Because I see that I am ALWAYS right about myself losing out.
Comment has been collapsed.
If it makes you feel better, I've been out of work almost a year and can't find a damn thing either. Used to be I'd apply for jobs and have a call in a week or two, now I never get callbacks to schedule interviews (Even Walmart passed me up, it hurts). As a result, I'll be moving somewhere else for a chance at some work come October/November.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hopefully the area you move to has some work available.

Vacant job history, or long term gaps in employment are what drops you to the bottom of the pile. The longer you are unemployed, the less likely you will get a call back. I had the same issue for many years. Due to several reasons I was only able to be hired as holiday retail help. The only way to overcome it, is to either lie and say you were actively doing something, like schooling, or to know someone within the hiring chain to explain the exact issue to get a foothold.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yah, I don't understand why it works that way though. It's not like being out of work awhile means a person will be any less capable of doing a job. It's also like judging a persons physical ability based on their body structure... I'm a skinny guy, and I've worked jobs where men 3 times my size quit halfway through the day because they couldn't handle the pain or didn't have the endurance required... It all gets to be quite infuriating... But I'm just going to keep looking forward. Hopefully I'll land something after I move. Ofc, I'm also working on a number of projects which may eventually lead to self employment opportunities. Can't predict if they'll work out or flop though, just gotta give it my best and hope.

Employers just need to let up a bit. All these little things theyre looking for is why its so hard for people to even get a job to begin with. And I have been doing school so I have that for no work maybe.
Comment has been collapsed.
Rip on that. But hey atleast you had a job before that. Been doing nothing but school, with my grandpa helping me pay since hes the only one in the family who finished college but since hes going into retirement soon, just like crap i need to find a job.
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe try Hospitality? There's always somewhere needing more staff and as long as you're presentable then no experience is needed as many are willing to train you. It's always has been a great starting point for first timers and also a good filler til you find a job you actually like, also a big plus if you can speak more than one language. Hope this helps ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
At this point anywhere I would try. Been applying everywhere within a 5-7 mile radius around my house. Been using sites powered by indeed.com plus looking at stores I can think of at the top of my head. And yeah hopefully. Been looking mostly for clerk or inventory things since didn't think the other ones would be easier, Ill be sure to look at some of those as more options to take into account
Comment has been collapsed.
If you've not done so yet, do contact the folks you were supposed to have the interview with, and let them know the situation.
It's common decency, and if you're lucky they'll be willing to give you another chance.
Comment has been collapsed.
"also in their interest too" Not really, they likely have other applicants. OP said they have no experience, so they would be bringing nothing special to the organization in comparison to someone who has any kind of experience. If it was a speciality job with very specific skill certification requirements that typically have few applicants, then yes it is in their interest. As someone who sits on a hiring committee from time to time, I can say a no show = no go. It isn't worth the time or bother to call someone who didn't show up. Their resume is typically flagged due to them being too unreliable to even come to the interview and put into to the e-file to not bother trying again if they reapply.
If however we are called prior to the interview or called during/ shortly after the interview timeslot (same day or next day) with a reasonable excuse, we either rebook that person if there are any slots remaining, or at least do not put them in the "Do Not Call" file. Reasonable excuses would encompass mechanical difficulties that occurred, family emergencies or general issues of unforeseen nature, etc. Sleeping in, Forgetting the appointment, etc. are not classed as valid reasons.
It's quite unfortunate but with there being so many applicants typically, an unskilled person who has the potential to be unreliable (doesn't show up) is less attractive to an employer than an unskilled applicant who actually showed up. First impressions sting.
With that said, I agree give them a call, sooner the better, explain what happened. You did the maintenance on your mode of transport and had a flat tire. Perfectly reasonable excuse.
Comment has been collapsed.
And yeah I agree, sometimes no need to give false hope, but yeah I see where you are coming from. Quite unfortunate on the tire but luckily can reschedule. Post was most likely just for me to vent my frustration about how annoyed I was to fail before I began D:
Comment has been collapsed.
It seems like the area recruiter does open interviews almost every week, so if luck be maybe that means they're low on staff so maybe a hire for me. :D
Comment has been collapsed.
And yeah I emailed and called them. Good news is I can reschedule, bad news is I might not get it, because while I do have a car, my moms using mine since she bought it when she needed a new one and said it would go to me once I have the money to hold it, I kind of need to make sure I get the job before I go yeah I have transportation to go wherever needed. Was applying to this place, http://w3.wisintl.com/

In my country the average worktime is 9 hours a day from which 1 hour is break and 8 hours of actually doing something. I happened to read following inspirational text somewhere:
If you don't have a job, it is your job to find a job. This means that you should put as much effort into it as having a job - in other words 8 hours a day to find a job.
Comment has been collapsed.
That would be a good idea, except for the fact that my internet sucks so I can't stay browsing for extended time because it starts to lag for whatever reason. But if worse comes to worse I'll probably start walking to places to apply when its not high 90s-low 100s the whole time.
Comment has been collapsed.
The best why to find a job is if you know someone who have good spot in his job and he can recommend you :) That is how i got my first shitty job :D After some time( a year) i find easier job what i liked but still shitty(Pays minimum wage ,but lucky me .. i am 25 almost and i got payed 7.20£/per hour what is enough to live in uk with out your own family :)

I guess if nothing else pops up gotta go work at Mcdonalds with my friends then lol. Have a friend in there, I've known for a few years and hes been working there for around 3 years I think. Main problem with that is I believe that store was 8-9 miles away from my house. Way too hot in these month to go that far everyday on foot/bike.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hey if my friend can help me out there, its better than nothing though still you know. Ill try to get to him in a weeks time or so, gonna give the places near me some more goes first.

There are but there are but didn't know the time schedules nor the routes. An the closet bus stop to my house is 3 miles in the opposite direction. So my being frustrated I did not think about a bus, just called people and all were busy #neverlucky

Hoping for it. Need to start helping my mom with the house/saving for school an eventually moving out if need be.

Apply to everything that is even remotely close to your field of specialization, always send a cover letter with your CV even if the employer did not ask you to. Limit the cover letter to one page or 400-500 words max as a rule of thumb (unless otherwise specified). In the cover letter make sure to show that you know things about the company like their specific ongoing projects or their mission and try to mention them in the letter, also mention that you are dynamic and you follow the philosophy of continuous improvement and what not, try to make it as non-generic and interesting as possible. When writing it, always imagine yourself in the position of HR reading through thousands of letters, would your letter interest you if you found it in the pile? Or you will throw it away after reading the first sentence? And like what other person here said, if you are jobless, your job is to find a job.
Good luck!
Comment has been collapsed.
My problem when it comes to writing is I tend to write a little bit too much at times. Thanks for saying some of the things to narrow down upon, Ill keep that in mind in the applications I fill out later.
Comment has been collapsed.
Where in AZ are you? Do you have a license? I'm flying out at end of month, and know someone who runs a pool maintenance company that services the Tuscon area. Also if you have a landline, you could try westathome.com I did some work for them for a while. Work from home, phone operator type shit. Sometimes your doing like 411 for sprint, other times your taking calls for QVC.
Comment has been collapsed.
No license yet since didn't want to use the little money my family makes to get one that I wouldn't be using till I found a job. If needed I could go get one in however long it takes to get one, the car my mom uses is gonna be my hand-me-down car when I get a job so it shouldn't be a problem for me. And rip no landline only cells at my house. And Im in Mesa.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks for that. If not, which I agree, with the experience should be unlikely, hopefully Ill be somewhere else by then.

Now that, that is quite unfortunate there :/ Terrible reasoning and very bad timing

Some bundle leftovers/sales. Get a little bit of money from my grandpa. Just for some things I need/want. Most of it I save just a little every now and then.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think you should have turned up to the interview even if you were late and explain what happened atleast that way you show you really want the job by turning up regardless of what happened. But I dunno all the details I'm guessing the interview was really far away, all you can do is just keep on trying you're bound to get a job soon just apply for any and everything you can.
Comment has been collapsed.
I left at a time where I would be there 30 min early by bike, if I would have to walk, one it would be in mid 90 degree weather so bleh there, and I would be over an hour late by foot, plus exhausted, maybe dehydrated, and most likely covered in sweat. Would show I'm dedicated but don't know how good of an impression that would of left lol
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah that sucks, but it happens to some of the best of us, I have a similar story. I had the chance of working in Stokoma, that's a store that sells guns & army equipment. I was looking forward to that interview all week. The night before I couldn't sleep, so I wasn't well rested. I rode my bike to the store for the interview (+-45 minutes) and then when I got there the interviewer asks me for my resume. It was at that time I knew I fcked up, I left my resume at home. I showed up the next day but they already hired someone.
It might sound cliché but keep searching eventually something will turn up when you least expect it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Now thats gotta suck. Sounds like just the kind of mistake I would make though xD My memory sucks, and heck sometimes even forget my own birthday sometimes. Even though its the easiest thing to remember ever, 01/23. And ya hoping it comes sooner than later.

I took japanese in high school. Grades were high enough got to go to japan with 22 other students in my class, 3 of which, where I was 1 of them, were only in japanese 1 since our grades were 100% both semesters lol. Unfortunately, they got rid of that language class at my school the next year so barely know a bit of japanese.
Comment has been collapsed.
Learning more than one language opens new employment opportunities. I can't tell for other languages, but English/French landed me an at-home moderator job for a Canadian company's social media platforms.
Perhaps you could try to find something like that which requires the use of English and Japanese - after refreshing your Japanese language skills, of course.
Comment has been collapsed.
That could be an idea, would add another option I could add for job searches.
Comment has been collapsed.
Now the trick is to just get the interview again or a new one.
Comment has been collapsed.
there are no cabs/taxi/friend/family/SOMEONE that could have drive you there?
if it still was "time" (same day) I'd tried getting there anyways, if I really wanted the job, maybe I'm being stupid and dreaming with the utopic world where the employer -or at least the PR whom is doing the interviews- would VALUE the effort I did by overcoming shit hitting the fan and still coming to the appointment.. Yeah, it's based in a lot of maybes, like good/fair employers, not-so-long distances, no blizzard or electric storms, no muggers, no giant spiders or boxing kangaroos, you know..
Sorry for you mate, it's hard out there, I've been trying to get a job here and no luck. I'ts not that I'm not qualified, it's shitty luck and no contacts. I'm convinced you cannot get anywhere without the right contacts to.. well, contact you, make it happen.
ps. Didn't you checked your bike while filling the tires? a mess like that would had showed (prob) signs of getting their last ride sooner than expected! XD
ps2. can't you work from internet? I'm saying this (and sounds silly) but you want it as NEAR as your home as possible, so, working from INSIDE your home would be a killer, right? yay? :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't know too many people. Not really a people person, so didn't make as much friends in school. The ones I did were in work at the time so ya just bad timing there. And I was filling the tires up in the garage before I left so I want to get them filled fast since the garage is super hot, didn't notice till a few minutes of me riding, guess I just didn't expect anything wrong so didn't even think of looking. And I agree if you can get help from within the industry for a job just seems much easier, like just come n employers, we all need jobs :p
Also ya working at home would be nice and I would think maybe easier, but who knows. Most of the sites I've seen for that have looked sketchy, so just been keeping it applying to places near, unless you have any suggestions there? Maybe Ill look through some in a bit.
Comment has been collapsed.
Unfortunately my AZ friend, I don't have a clue. I can't even get a job here in Argentina, would love to help out but at this current time I'm unable to. Yeah, internet jobs look sketchy most times, I guess you could check freelancer sites, depending on your skills and area of expertise.
Anyway, hope it works out fine for you man, best of luck for you :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks for the luck and hopefully you can find yourself a job too in the near future.
Comment has been collapsed.
Based on my own experience looking for jobs many years ago (haven't switched job for years), I always used reliable transportation methods e.g taxi or even rent motorcycle (cause they normally check the condition before renting it) or something.
And always always leave home much earlier to prevent traffic jam.
Thankfully I have quite work experience and education background so I didn't have problems getting interviews. Getting accepted was a bit difficult, but doable for jobs I liked.
Comment has been collapsed.
You got one, you can get another. I know it may not feel like it though, and it's totally understandable to feel like that. I just hope for a second or two, somewhere in there, you can be aware you can still do this.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thats the plan at least. Does make it a bit more annoying since still have depression from years ago. Can hide it a lot but does make it feel much harder to do anything still not getting any success at all for the most part.
Comment has been collapsed.
good luck to get a new job. Repair can be done later. or spend a few minutes. if there is a near workshop and can do so very quickly. popytaytesb warn that linger. if it does not alert the looking for a way to get there as quickly as possible
Comment has been collapsed.
Ya but Ill probably just work on the drivers license instead of worrying about the bike. Since that form of transportation will just make things easier, and the car my moms using is gonna be a hand-me-down so Ill have one lol. But who knows right. And thanks for the luck though

Last year when I was there, I decided I wanted to make the permanent move too late to do anything effective about it, but I've been watching the foreclosures, and closed sales for the area I mentioned above. You can pick up a 2 bedroom on an acre lot with a pool for 40-50k at auction. Living in massachusetts where a 1 bedroom ranch on a quarter acre runs 100k and up, I was floored. And I'm in a 'poorer' area of the state to boot. Only problem with like catalina, is its far removed from anything, but I hate people, so to me thats perfect. I dont mind commuting so.

You are going to leave me? Where else will I find someone to bond over NE with? :o. Though yes, prices are crazy. 500 Sq foot apartment, over 900.

Whats your field of study? And how old are you if you dont mind me asking? For some reason I put you at 20-21, but now you've said grad school so I know thats wrong, unless you early placed into college.

Archives. And 24. I was early to college, but took some time off.

I couldn't do college, I tried, but I had a daughter already by the time I graduated highschool. So between her, and working full time to support her, it was just too much, and frankly I never liked school anyways. I could argue it was because I was bored, the school system tried to jump me grades every year, but my parents would never allow them, because 'i wasnt emotionally mature enough to fit in with older kids' lol, I just didnt fit in period, had nothing to do with their ages.
Edit: I'm not entirely sure I can in good conscience take you with me now... seeing as its completely possible you went to school with my oldest. HAHAHA

High school or College? College was an all women's school.

Oh, lol, I'm kidding, the odds are incredibly low you actually wouldve gone to school with her, just the ages, she's 23. Though she did look at going to smith when she got the rhodes scholarship, but then she got pregnant and decided to be a full time mom instead of furthering her education. I cant say I wasnt disappointed, but it makes her happy so who am I to judge?

I also looked at Smith but went to another school. And happiness is key.

oh for sure the property tax there is crazy especially in the southern towns the northern parts of the state are not as bad but still pretty high.
not to mention having to buy a new car every 5 years from all the rust you get from the truck loads of salt they have to dump on the streets each year,my last truck i had there was an f150 and literally rusted in half with the rear axle coming off, the bed of the truck was the only thing holding it together after 7 years lol.

I remember when it was my 21st birthday and I had a party with some friends and I was all like 'I have a job interview in the morning so I can't get too drunk or stay up too late'. But then somebody convinced me to take a few hits on this bong and it was all over as I don't usually even do that kind of stuff. I was doing karaoke on my own at 5 am in my underwear.
A few hours later I was at the job interview feeling more poorly than ever in my entire life. And I was late because my neighbour had made me clean up where I had sicked outside his front door on the way to the interview. And the lady who was interviewing me made me a cup of coffee and I sicked it up and then I sort of spasmed and threw the rest of the hot coffee over her blouse.
I was in a band at the time and I had a great gig the next night, although the support act was really terrible and had to be rescued by his mother. That cheered me up a lot - but in hindsight I am still ashamed of much of my life. There is probably some sort of moral to this story but I am too lazy to work it out for you.
Comment has been collapsed.
Quite the unfortunate story there.
And all Im getting from that is to be as responsible as you can, otherwise it just might blow up in your face, or someone else's.
Comment has been collapsed.
I was late to an interview recently because I decided to use my smartphone as my satnav in my pocket while cycling with earphones and it took me on a stupid and slow route so took twice as long as it should.
Still did the interview and was feeling very positive but 2 days later found out I did not get the job and was probably the saddest I have been in my life so far.
I was told I should have taken a taxi but this is something I have never done before and does not appeal to me at all.

It might just be me, but I dont trust people I dont know driving me places. Maybe thats why I like my bike over buses since havent gotten my license yet, who knows.

Sooo, this loser right here still has no job. Been spending about an hour every day for the past week applying to jobs to see if I could get anywhere, and I finally get contacted for an interview today. Yay right? So I was getting ready, took a shower, yadayada, and I leave my house on my bike, insert no income for a car here. Now I did fill the tires with air since its been a while since I used it since I live in AZ and its too hot to ride around more often than not. But after riding for about 5 min, I think why the heck is it so difficult to ride this bike!? I know I'm not in the best of shape but like come on you know.
Turns out the back tire of my bike is broken. I don't even know how though. The tube is displaced in multiple places of the tire, aka pretty much need a new tire, but rip for having no bike repair shop within walking distance of my house.
Soooo after my unfortunate, anyone have any recommendation for a place I could apply to that I might have missed? No experience on me yet and hopefully any of those places are near my house.
Will probably add a giveaway later on, just a little frustrated atm for not being able to get to the first interview I've had for quite a while...
