I was doing housekeeping for my Google Drive to free up some space, and I found an old document with a huge list of unused Desura keys. I tried redeeming some of them, and apparently Desura website is still working fine!

I don't want all these keys as I already have all these games on Steam. But to just dump hundreds of keys into the forums feels irresponsible to me. Any idea? Should I make a spreadsheet open to the public for editing so people can delete it when claimed? I worry there will be trolls though.

Public spreadsheet?
It's the best way to attract greedy people, someone could just export them for their personal use and empty the spreadsheet.
Make giveaways for the games you're allowed to give here (if any), and dump the rest somewhere, preferably not all together.

What do you mean make giveaways?
You mean create as a giveaway? SG do not allow non-Steam keys.

Ah, sorry, I took it as if you got Steam keys after redeeming the Desura ones. Some used to allow that, by the way.

No, they are Desura keys, meant to be redeemed on Desura website, where you can download the game via Desura client. Some of them might come with a Steam key, but I don't know which.

Dump them on the orphan keys thread, a few at a time to avoid stealthy ninjas snatching them all.
Or create a thread for that purpose, where you'll directly give keys to interested people (one key per user).

Yeah, this was my original plan. But I have tons of keys it will take ages to clear them off lol. But if that's the best way so far, then I guess I'll do just that.

Well, if you don't want them to be snatched by ungrateful ninjas... that's the only sensible way to do it.
What did you mean by "tons of keys"? Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands?

Well, that document was last modified a year ago, and it has close to 200 keys in it. If I am serious about giving out keys, I have a year worth of bundles to go thru again and dig out the unused Desura keys. I think most bundle switched to itch.io about a year ago, so hopefully there aren't too many.

offer them in your giveaways, group/whitelist?

if you offer them in public most people will grab them just because they are free.

Offer as in? Post a list there and ask people to contact me?

I'm in the same boat. I need to clean up my groupees wall, like 200 to 300 desura keys in it.
Maybe try gog.com forums, as many people there are drm-free and would rather not use steam, so win/win maybe?

Desura is also a DRM. So, they aren't DRM-Free per se.

Ah no joke? I thought you could download the installers directly from the website without the client.

95% ran without client, the others you install through the client, zip up and copy and play it to any directory, thus it's still being drm free.

Yeah, as Lugum said. Most games can be run without the client, the only DRM are the downloading and installing, either you need to download the installer via the client, or some you need to install via the client. Otherwise, once the games are installed, they are practically DRM-Free (or in some cases, the developer will have their own DRM, which they supply you the game's license key you need to activate on first install).

Don't trust users to do the proper cleaning /respectful taking; you should know what they would do, given no control or supervision.
Sadly, most (but thankfuly not all) humans will take advantage of all and anything that can be exploited. This is why we can (often) have nice things.

It'd be hypocrit of me to offer to participate; I do have a Desura account, and I've enjoyed collecting and playing some of those.
I'm not sure how to help you, but it's probably a good idea to encrypt, censor, cover or hide the keys IF you're willing to part ways with it.
Since you can't do giveaways, you could create some and hid them inside, OR hide them in other gibs you want, OR just select people you like what they said/done and just casually gift something to those you enjoy as a token of apreciation.

If it's just too much work, it's sign you're getting beaten by lazyness! fightback with all your might! don't let yourself taken and crushed, as lazyness takes the best of us, and lays waste and chaos afterwards, also favors the ninjas and bots, while damages the good folks that actually aren't cheaing, don't have speed internet or are just otherwise engaged, like Sheldon used to say :P

sorry for typos, lazyness like I said, it's 1am and I'm supossed to go to bed.. or it could be on purspose and I've hidden something.. mhwahahahaaa!

I be willing to trade you cards for the ones i don't have and can check ones that aren't used.
I can't remember if it would say key unused or just already owned.

You can post a list and add people who want a game then give them the key.
Or randomly put some in your giveaways.
If you put them in SGT giveaways, people would need to have an SG account to get them.
