It's most probably because of recent site slow load times. It will be restored when CG finds out what caused this.

Workaround:
URL for particular page looks as follows: http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?page=<page_number>

Were they ever at the top or do you mean way back?

Because I remember when SG2 was up I had suggested that but I don't think anything came from it.

Either way I think they should be brought back xD

Yep./ Whatever you're doing, stop it. And bring back the "last" page option too.

Is it really that horrible? How many times did you use them instead of the 'next' link? If you had to choose between performance and page numbers, which would you choose?

Why would that hurt performance?

The site counting individual number of available giveaways per user, then dividing it by 25 per user, for thousands of users at any given minute will put a load on the server.

but if you don't click a determined page it won't load the info, at least it should be like that.

It's not about it being displayed. Every request it has to query the database to find out how many giveaways meet the criteria and then figure out number of pages, the max pages, the current page, and how many previous and next pages to display.

This isn't an issue with discussion boards since you can cache the total number of posts/replies. However with a highly dynamic (customizable) like the giveaways, it has to be requeried every request for each user.

Yeah and then there is SG2O or some other tool which takes for a single user even more computation power from the server - basically everyone starts using such tool and site will start to lag even more, and eventually this doesnt solve anything.

^ This. Every user's list is going to be different when it factors in what games to include or exclude. If you don't show games you already own, are above your level/rank, games you've marked to not be displayed, giveaways that you're on a whitelist or steam group.
