This year your wallet for the Summer sale will be...
If found at a good price, I WILL be buying FAR Changing Tides.
I usually feel no obligation or sense of gratitude enough to spend my money on games, especially for myself ....But Okomotive is my exception.

i have not put a single cent into steam since they cut windows 7 support.
only things i buy off steam are with my wallet from selling off all my cards.
right now got 133$
we shall see if there are any good deals
fingers crossed for 60% of BG3

im just saying that wont happen for awhile as that game came out like 2 years ago, sales only happen when a game has trouble selling, if people still buy it, they wont just discount it for no reason
Comment has been collapsed.
I played BG3 on the Steam Deck, so you at least know you will be able to play it. But yeah, I can't imagine it being significantly discounted like that. Maybe it drops to 30% off. Maybe.

i have a steam deck. my 11 year old windows 7 pc runs far better so its what i play 98% of my games on

They won't revert it back. Windows 7 is a great system, but even new browser updates haven't supported Win7 for a long time. As far as I remember, it was because Steam uses the Chromium module that Valve cancel support for Win7 in the Steam client. It's not because Valve support Microsoft, but because of Google's decisions in Chrome/Chromium.
Next station GNU/Linux?

BG3 doesn't need 60% off, just save whatever money you would have spent on other games instead, even if that means it takes longer to get it. It's a good deal even at full price.
Yes, I do think it's that good. And mind you, the list of games I've ever bought at full price is very short indeed, so this is not advice coming from someone who always preorders the latest AAA slop at full price. π

i plan to buy Skyrim if it has a good price, anything less then 8$ should i buy the Anniversary upgrade as well? i hear that its needed for mods, but im unsure
Comment has been collapsed.
I have asked this question before and I think the gist of it was 'It is not needed'. Only difference is that AE includes Creation Club content as DLCs. I think SE still has better mod support? Not sure though.
This Reddit post has a good summary.

Planning on buying one game if it goes on good sale (π€) that I've been holding off on for a good while, and would finally like to play next month. Other than that I just hope the badge will look nice as that is the main thing I care about during Summer Sale. :P
Loving the poll options btw.

I was planning to buy nothing, because I had zero expectations of any new, low discounts on things I wanted. Then Sony just went and gave Horizon Forbidden West a new, low discount. While that isn't really low enough for me, it could mean some other Sony games will get new discounts in the sale. So, I will keep an eye on those now. Not sure any other games will get good discounts yet, but, I guess if Sony can surprise me, so can other publishers.

Sony recently removed their stupid region lock for (some of) their singleplayer games so I can buy them again. My plan is to get all those games... god of war ragnarok, horizon remaster, TLOU 1, spidey 2 etc. Too bad ghost of tsushima and TLOU 2 are still unavailable. I also kind of want to try out games like Lies of P and Persona 3 remake. Total budget for this summer sale is around $500 and those Sony games certainly will take a big chunk out of that even if discounted.

I have no doubt some American Truck Sim DLC will end up being purchased. And likely some CRPG/TRPG stuff.

I really hope that Kingdom Come: Deliverance Royal Edition will finally go on a big sale, ideally for its lowest historical price π€. Also, I'm hoping for The Division 2 New York DLC and the first Division game with both DLCs. Those are the main things I'm waiting for.

Many games saw their prices inflated permanently to trick buyers into believing they get a bargain by showing higher discounts at a sale. Just look at price history at SteamDB. I don't believe the common narrative games have to cost 70 or more bucks at release because it takes hundreds of people to make them so I buy at a steep discount only if at all.
After experiencing nearly a decade of sales on Steam the magic has gone.
Never pre-order, never believe so-called game journalists [and be wary about Early Access].

Yeah, it can't possibly be that games really got more complex and more expensive to develop. The legally required annual financial reports that confirm increased development costs are also faked.
And inflation also doesn't exist. Or better said groceries, rent and other living costs only get more expensive for gamers but not for game developers.

Nice sarcasm :D. But I don't think game prices matter anymore. You don't pay for the games, you pay for the opportunity to play them early. The new pay-more-and-play-before-release trend is showing this. Many pay for this privilege, many will wait 2 years to play them at an 80% discount.

The current market is indeed suiting everyone, which is a pretty ideal scenario. Not to mention that there are so fucking many games, we can easily be very selective according to our individual budgets.
That's the reason why I usually react "allergic" to gamers complaining about the status quo.
Comment has been collapsed.
Completely understandable. And true! So many f*cking games! (It is so easy to hoard them :D.) Also, many new and flashy games so buggy on release or get one or two DLC or a whole season pass later, so it's just better to wait minimum a year to enjoy their true experience.
Comment has been collapsed.
That would be very surprising but good for Spain, Norway and Canada I guess.
I don't tend to give much credence to AI generated stuff though. Their current "sources" tend to be other unreliable AI-generated pages with unverified data. In this case this seems to be the main source:
https://gamespublisher.com/average-game-developer-salary-in-2025-what-you-need-to-know/
and the data on that page doesn't even make mathematical sense, without even going into the detail of the data source that remain unnamed.

Even if real wages (adjusted for inflation) stagnated in some countries, I seriously doubt that any publisher could afford to ignore inflation and at least adjusted salaries by the local inflation rate in recent years. Just like pretty much any job experienced in the western hemisphere.
Result: Increased costs for salaries.
Next result: Higher prices for the products/games.
It really doesn't make much sense why everyone expects games to be the only untouchable exception to the effects of inflation.

But also inflated budgets, increasing profit margins, and zero accountability. Gotta justify that inflation somehow.
Indies typically get it right.
Major studios OTOH not so much.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, one version of accountability would be disclosure of expenditures. It's great to hear that a game costs a billion dollars to make (GTA6), but why exactly is that? Did it really cost that much, or was the spending frivolous? It's usually the latter. So, we can start there. Let's see a break down of how that budget was utilized. And let's be specific.
Basically, let's see them prove it. Much like the releases themselves. It's folly to pre-order. Make them prove it with an actual proper release, then reward that.
Is my perspective.
Comment has been collapsed.
This are matters relevant to investors and owners. And there is accountability in that context. People can lose money, their jobs or even end their careers.
I really don't see how publishers would owe gamers accountability for their budgets. If gamers don't like what their products cost, they simply don't have to buy them. And if they still do, it's their free choice.
Or do we also expect companies to justify their development budgets for developing a new car or washing machine to us, when we buy one of those? Nope, we just vote with our wallets and pick our candidates.
Comment has been collapsed.
We should. Yes. But we've been conditioned to just take their word for it. And in the AAA gaming industry, there is also pricing collusion, which isn't even debatable given how pricing is structured. There is a zero percent chance that all these AAA games cost the same to make, and yet the pricing is consistently the "accepted" amount. Which is obviously going up once again. Maybe we should be demanding accountability.
We also should vote with our wallets.
Both things are true.

Just like pretty much any job experienced in the western hemisphere.
My sister works in the tech industry for a huge company that employs over one million employees worldwide. They have completely blocked the salary increase system for the last 2 years so that they'd still be able to promise and deliver 35% annual growth to their shareholders.
And France is a rather social country. You can't force companies to index salaries on the inflation rate. Only the minimum wage can be increased by law.
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't claim that it was enforcable by law. And frankly said, your "I know one excemption" doesn't impress me much, especially if you don't provide any sources and won't even name the employer.
Here is the OECD report for 2025:
According to the latest data for Q3 2024, annual real wage growth was positive in virtually all
OECD countries, with an average of 3.4% across the 34 countries for which data are available (Figure 2
Panel A).
In Q3 2024, despite their persistent annual growth, real wages remained below their Q1 2021 level (which
pre-dates the post-pandemic inflation surge) in about two-thirds (22) of the 34 countries for which data are
available (Figure 2, Panel B). Nonetheless, real wages regained at least some of the lost ground in all
OECD countries.
Summed up: Wages are substantially rising, even while 60% of the OECD countries' real wages still trail behind those levels of 2021.
I'm done with this topic.

You're right basically. Redemption arcs exist where developers delivered a finished product after nearly all folks buying Early Access lost hope. Kentucky Route Zero comes to my mind and shows I'm a risk taker which is stupid most of the time ;)

Yeah, I love the SteamDB browser extension. It shows the historical low under every game on Steam. Very useful.
