Hey Guys,

Only just heard about this site, signed up today and so far I think it's great. When browsing around, I found someone holding a giveaway to promote their Steam Group Page, and was wondering if you can promote anything you want on here, in my case, my small YouTube Channel?

It'd be great if I could send people from my Channel over here to enter weekly giveaways, and likewise, it'd be great to have people entering giveaways here head over to my Channel to check it out and see if my content suits them.

Thanks in advance for the answers.

EDIT: My Channel " Blootrix " - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGt277NWBXGLd13D9jbf8vA

EDIT 2: Just to further clarify, at the end of my videos, I plan to do a small "This week I'm giving away XX game, if you'd like to enter then please head over to URL where you can enter, you can find a link in the description."
I also don't want to force people to have to do certain things to enter my giveaways, I just want to make people aware of my channel, then if they like me for me and like my content, I've earned those subs rather than forcing them to sub which is the way I want to do things with my channel in the future.

Thanks again for all the info guys.

You can write about it in description, can post link... but you can't require people to click/do something to enter. Entering giveaways is always free.

Thanks for getting back to me.

That's great, as I didn't want to require people to do anything special to enter the giveaway. I don't want to forcefully push people to my channel, I just want to make them aware of it.

When posting links or content, that content should not force users, encourage users through reward, or primarily exist as a traffic source for users to perform an action for promotional, commercial, or monetary benefit. Such actions include but are not limited to clicking a referral link, liking a Facebook page, following a Twitter account, joining a Steam group, completing a survey, or making a donation. (Please note, in giveaway descriptions we do allow users and developers to link to their related Steam Greenlight, group, and store pages, as well as their social media channels. Users are also able to reference their group giveaways when posting in the Group Recruitment category of our forum.)

So yes, you can promote your channel by leaving a link and simply inviting people to check it out if they want to. What you're not allowed to do is force people to watch/subscribe in order to validate their entry in your giveaway.

Although, judging by your description, you probably could do private giveaways and post the link in your videos, as a way to reward your viewers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm curious to know, but I think that method may be fine.

Sounds right to me. Taken from the FAQ:

  • Invite Only
This allows you to privately share the giveaway link with friends, or outside communities.

Edit: Not too sure about putting the link in the video. If they have to watch the whole video to get to the link than they are technically being required to perform an action in order to enter the giveaway. Posting the link in the video description would be fine though. I might have misunderstood you though.

If he requires people from here to watch the video, then kind of wrong move, yes. But if he's posting that link inside of video for his existing followers and never tells anyone here about it... I don't know... It's kind of sharing with outside community, and just using SG for a "fair draw".

Yeah, that's probably the best way to look at it.

Yeah, but you're barely going to promote it through giveaways unless the people that watch the videos are expected to tell more people there is a giveaway link in the video and you should watch it. Or something like that.

it's the same as entering through a sgtools link, you are required to do something to enter.
so it's fine with the rules.

Ah, that's true. Didn't think about that.

Nobody thought of all the ITH or Jigidi ones? Those require doing tons more than just watching a video.

Video-linked giveaways were allowed in the past, but that was prior to the crackdown on gleam.io. The current phrasing still allows them [namely, since the action is interactive, not active/contributive (to a promotional, commerical, or monetary element that benefits the GA creator)- as such, it ought fall under typical SG event allowances], but it may be better to get confirmation from staff if they're still permissible.
(Put another way, if you look at the FAQ quote, it mentions "liking a Facebook page", not 'visiting a facebook page and finding the comment among many that has a GA linked in it'. In the first, you're taking an action to support the site, in the latter, you're merely interacting with the site.)

As you say, though- those giveaways would have to be separate from the ones that were made to promote the channel in the first place, since no actions can be required to validate an entry once it has already been made in a giveaway. (Technically, you'd also lose any right to a leaked giveaway reroll in that instance as well, since the links are essentially posted publicly- but as there's no restriction to your deleting giveaways prior to their end, that oughtn't affect much.)

Basically, SG gives pretty free reign with group management or invite-only giveaway access, so long as it isn't exploitative in how it utilizes the site, made for the sake of providing a direct benefit to the GA creator, or violates any of the conduct/access rules on SG (such as requiring actions to validate an entry).

Thanks for getting back to me.

That's great, as I didn't want to require people to do anything special to enter the giveaway. I don't want to forcefully push people to my channel, I just want to make them aware of it and then earn those subs by creating good content.

Yes you can use it in order to promote the youtube channel. But just a link in the description. Do not force people to visit it and you'll be fine

You are already a bad marketer. You should have posted your youtube link in this thread already. I wanted to see but now...NOPE.

Thanks for the kind words haha. Unfortunate for myself that you are no longer interested in checking out my channel.

I deliberately didn't link to my channel because I was unsure of the rules on sharing, which is why I made this thread.

If you change your mind on taking a look at my channel, I've added a link in the OP to it.
