See what I did there?
I was just wondering if it was like in the picture, maybe certainly there would be less "why I can't give this game" threads and less bans to people who think their game isn't showing up because of some random bug, and it's not a big deal to choose some bonus version.

Why not make a special section where you can giveaway free games but the GA creator won't win anything from it, the GA point would be 0 but the winner still has to activate the win!

A birdie told me it puts too much load on servers. Free games can be dumped in forum though, or put at the end of puzzle if you don't want lazy ninjas.

there is a low server load way of doing it, SG already has a DB of people's owned games and hidden game (do-not-want) DB;
therefore it could do an insta-GA into the pool of people who don't have it and haven't hidden it, before seeing the code the insta-winner would have the option to re-roll to someone else and add the game to their hidden/(d-n-w) list.
There would be a bit more tolerance for bad codes/ failure to redeem in light of some of the devs bulk code revocation scandals and the fact GA's for these type of games have been delayed so long the codes are getting old.
0 cv, 0 cred, 0 rep per GA, also does not contribute to won/sent numbers or ratio; but also high tolerance unless it seems like there is a pattern of abuse.
also this way each ga would NOT create a forum

Yes please, great idea! I wonder what the glass-half-empty people will find wrong with this suggestion...

There's gameminer for that already but I wouldn't complain having a separate section for this. Just because it was given for free doesn't mean there's no people looking for it.

Then people would abuse the free games to improve their won/sent ratios.

I thought more people look at CV than just the won/set ratio numbers...but even if they do focus on the won/sent numbers, they could make it so that games that have 0 CV or on the free list don't increase any number.(They would still need to cost points though IMHO to keep people from just entering every 0p GA)

That's pretty neat. I don't mind if that were added as a default feature to the site :)

There was another idea floating around about keeping the games in the list but having them grayed out. That plus a warning would be good.

If only CG read these threads... so many good suggestion, so little attention from the one who can actually implement them.

Yeah, I had to create a support ticket to figure out why I couldn't give away a game. If the game would show up grayed out, with text popping up saying "This game is ineligible because it was given away for free before" it would solve a lot of issues that new members have.

Do you know if you're allowed to just post links to Humble Bundle keys in the forums?

I see. Outside of the lack of politeness, I don't really see what's wrong with that.

There are people who sit on the forums just to do that. And others who have scripts that auto-detect keys. It just ends up a little more fair to change up the key/link a little.

Yeah. I read that "greyed out and red tooltip" suggestion there though, it's not a bad one at all, and most people seemed to like it, but if it's not there yet, they're probably too lazy busy to implement it... in which case they could at least do my version, it's literally copy-paste the same div from another part of the new GA page, change the text and that's about it.

I was wondering what was going on with all these soundtrack and DLC giveaways for base games that were free.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Then we need to know how many of those users who make giveaway for free-games, doing it on purpose and how many are really unaware of the rule!.

First I'd like to know, what are the downsides of what I suggested. Why does it even matter how many of the offenders are going to be non-offenders, if it's very likely that some will?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I see no downside to add another warning message while it's already available in FAQ but i'm mostly curious to know how many of users will simply ignore it and still make a GA to gain CV.

I'm not disagree with your suggestion, Diana.

Most people don't read the whole FAQ anyway. For some reason I doubt there are many doing it on purpose, I've seen lots of new users admitting it's a different game, and lots of them asking on forums, because they thought about making it for a different game, but were not sure if it's okay.
Maybe there are few who do it for CV purpose, but it's risky business since if the winner knows anything, they'll report as not received. If there was the text, at least you could be sure that unless the GA creator has been very oblivious, they did it on purpose and deserve their suspension. A little better imo, than to think about all the poor confused newbies who just want to give away games but haven't read the FAQ, getting greeted with a suspension, for their good intent.

I'd be ok with it and placing a "you will be suspended if you do" in red bold text too. But hey that's me c:
