Coming soon: bundle pricing is in your local currency
Today, we’re making purchasing more consistent across our store, bundles and Humble Choice by introducing regional pricing for all of our bundles. The following currencies are supported for bundles: EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, NZD, TRY, RUB, and PHP.

Please note, for live bundles launched before today, the currency is still in USD.
https://blog.humblebundle.com/2020/02/10/announcing-regional-pricing-for-bundles/

*Classic users are unaffected for this regional price change:

There are no regional prices for classic and it will remain $12USD + applicable taxes.
The only way a Classic subscriber will see or receive regional pricing is if they cancel their subscription and then purchase a Choice subscription (Lite, Basic, Premium) the following month.

And of course, games with regional prices will be region locked, right? That would be just awesome for us non-ROW SG users. I dream of being locked away from giving away games to everyone and not just my region, yeah.

I don't think something will change in that regard. Humble can't change region locks of keys, only publishers can; And in cases where publishers enforce region locks - Humble already have locked keys.

Yea, this is a question. I have bad feelings (and paused for a moment), but need more details. Not sure:
1) if renewal will be in Euro or in USD as it was in FAQ
2) How much higher price it will be.

Anyway after firs very bad reaction I will wait for a details and then will decide:)

I'm probably the only one with this problem: I'm from EU/Germany, with an EU Paypal account. But I get payments in USD on Paypal. When Humble changes to Euro pricing they'd have set the price for my Classic subscription to €8.40 as I usually only get 70 cents per dollar because Paypal hides their conversion fees in the exchange rate. I fear it'll be at least €10, more likely €12.

EDIT: personal crises averted, the price for Classic obviously stays the same. It still sucks for regional bundles, though.

My Account -> Profile -> My Money -> My preapproved payments -> Update -> See Available Funding Sources (or Set Available Funding Sources) -> Conversion Options (for card you'd like to change this option)-> Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice -> Submit

probably a bit messed with new pp site

Those are the conversion options for credit cards. My situation is different: I have an USD balance on my EU Paypal account. So, if Humble starts charging Euros for their bundles (thank goodness, they decided to keep things as they are for Classic), Paypal would start converting my USD balance into Euros, which cannot be changed by any options.

with wallet balance convert manually, you get better exchange rates.

In my experience it's exactly the same, whether I convert USD to Euro first, or buy something that triggers an automatic conversion, or transfer some of my balance to my bank account which also triggers an automatic conversion. Or maybe they changed it ... I'll check again, next time I transfer some funds to my bank account, it's easy to compare in that case.

Humble removed their information saying that classic will stay at 12 USD, so i am a bit sceptical.
It now says "You’re in control with Humble Choice. Choose the plan that works best for you. In addition, Humble Choice now features regional pricing in the following currencies: EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, and NZD."

If you get the Classic plan then you won't get regional pricing for it, it will stay the same. However if you aren't subbed to the classic plan and getting one of the current packages then you will pay regional pricing.

Looking at a few games on the store I can't see any mention of region restrictions. Without that, what's to stop people using a proxy to purchase from cheaper regions?

Comment has been collapsed.

Idk, the chance of not being able to purchase on HB anymore might be a good reason not to do it. Of course if you don't care about that, then it probably won't matter to some.

exactly what others did to buy bundles at fanatical.com (they add 1eur to bundles price for ru/cis region)

I think that humblebundle checks region/currency of payment method and bans it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That would be interesting with so many regions/currencies not currently represented, although they could take that into account. I imagine people might test it with new accounts and see what happens. I suppose paypal could be used, depending on currency conversion fees.

It would be nice if they could have got the conversion rates similar, rather than just going 1:1.

What about British pound, can someone from England spill the tea on it?
I am asking this, because i usually was using UK vpn for all of my HB purchases

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

1 dollar = 1 pound on the site. So using a UK VPN would be more expensive. If you visit the site via various proxies you'll see the different prices and who pays the most - no idea how humble will treat VPN purchases though so be careful with what you do if you don't want to be banned or get region locked games.

Don't you just really love when Humble is making changes that is only good for them but somehow make it look like they're doing it for you and you're not actually getting screwed in the process?

I'd say bad move for them, imo. A lot of people are already buying games from their bundles on the grey market, making tiers even more expensive outside the US is probably only going to strengthen those trends.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yup, shitting on the probably the biggest English-speaking market (EU) outside of the US, by doing "regional" pricing is kinda bullshit.
Thankfully I don't live there, and prices appear to be slightly cheaper.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm sure there will be some countries where it makes things easier, especially outside of the Euro Zone, but that's also only going to make the grey market more enticing for some.

Oh well, we're just the end customers, we just pay the price, whatever happens.
I'll probably reflect that in the way I change the spread on bundles though. Charities and devs should get more anyway.

Shitty change, but at least it is not as bad as Fanatical € prices. Also bundles that are worth buying outside Choice are almost non-existent.

Did Humble had a different prices before? I thought until now it has the same price no matter what VPN you're using. What are you talking about?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think he/she might be confusing things. All prices were in Dollars. What did happen for a lot of people was currency conversion fees imposed by their banks/credit cards to change from their local currency into Dollars. A VPN would have no effect on this however, and not everyone pays these fees.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe you confused cause and effect here? They did not add regional pricing because people used a VPN, it's the other way round: people might use a VPN now that there's regional pricing. I mean, why would they, when everyone paid the same prices (in USD) before? I certainly didn't and I'm considering it now.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Regional pricing is obviously good for some as they'll get cheaper prices(Rubles for example come out well in the new scheme). Others will be paying more, such as Humbles 1 Dollar = 1 Euro = 1 GBP. With current exchange rates at 1 Dollar = 0.92 Euros = 0.77 GBP, Brits and any Euro countries that have lower average wages than the USA could be worse off, depending on currency conversion fees and exchange rates. If you have higher average wages and no fees you could be better off, and lower wage countries with lower humble prices will be better off.
It's obviously fairer for some people, but not all, and if the dollar weakens it will be even worse for some.

Well, at least they didn't set my currency to RUB (unlike those idiots in EA), I'm thankful for that.

So tier one is slightly more expensive and for other tiers - guess I will have to check for each bundle how will they set prices...

Funny how before the change they properly estimated the conversion between $ and € and after implementing the regional pricing now it's suddenly $1 = €1. Not cool HB. That's a stealthy 10% increase in price.

Humble Bundle finally Announcing regional pricing for bundles that we quietly started one month ago at least in the EU

FTFY

Disappointing move by Humble for anyone not on the Classic plan. Compared to prior non-classic pricing that was closer to actual exchange rates, this was evidently a 6% cost increase in Germany with GBP, which isn't much for a one time purchase but adds up over time. Totally crappy for other countries with a double digit increase.

I presume they want to cash in on regions that have a higher cost of living to offset any diminished profit from lowering prices in regions with lower cost of living? Or have they not decreased prices for any region/currency? Can't be sure unless someone got a snapshot of multiple currencies' Humble Choice non-Classic before & after the change.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I haven't checked a proxy for every country, but they have effectively increased prices for most regions, at least on the cheapest bundle price. Rubles are cheaper, and I think PHP would be, which makes some sense.
GBP is effectively a more than 30% increase.
