I was talking to a few friends about this game and a friend of mine recently gave up on the site after only a couple weeks of use. He posted some good games like Borderlands 2 and Torchlight 2 but there's just not enough incentive to contribute anything of real value. I know there are some giveaways that are only for contributors of high amounts but they are few and far between. On top of that, there's also too many giveaways of just indie bundle games.

I personally have only been here for 3 weeks and have already contributed $400+ worth of games. Most of which I pay for out of my pocket because I have a little disposable income and want to share games I enjoy with other gamers. But after speaking with a couple friends of mine, I feel like what's the point? Points come too easily, you can amass the limit by visiting the site every other day. Meanwhile most of the games available that I don't already own are from indie bundles that I could just spend $1 on which I bet a lot of people here do.

I think the site should look into something to add for contributors because without the contributors, the site wouldn't exist. And the contributor giveaways aren't even enough because I haven't seen any AAA titles that are for contributors over $100. I don't know if there's some kind of equation to better your odds after you contribute a certain amount. Maybe something like you can an extra free entry for every $100 you contributed? It'd be more fair for people like me who are spending money out of their own pocket to contribute to this site. Because I have to say, if something better doesn't happen for contributors, I feel like I'll just stop contributing because why even bother?

I actually joint Steamgifts because I had some games rotting in my inventory and I just felt somebody else might like to play it. I still own a few things I am waiting for the right moment with and accidentially I bought 12 Indie Gala Bundles 9 - I am just waiting for the Gala to end until I fill up Steamgifts with my keys as I don't want to raise my contributor value artificially but want to make a difference once you can't get the games cheap anymore...

...I buy cheap and giving it away once it is expensive again so people who missed out gain more from it :)

.... your "contributor money" is from bundles... and then a lot of rome total war to speed it up. so don't act like a Real big contributor, you are not.

It doesn't get any 'more fair' than random selection. If you're only giving things away because you expect something in return, feel free to GTFO. If you give things away, it should be because you want to give things away and for no other reason. We don't need any more greedy jackasses who think they're owed something for making giveaways.

You know that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you make other people happy? Well, if you don't get it when making a giveaway, then you're not doing it right!
The idea of the site is to help other people who can't afford it and make them happy. If you happen to win something yourself is a nice bonus but not what you should be counting on or aiming for.

good you're a contributor, I have paid what I gave too from my own pocket, what I can I giveaway
(though at the moment my money goes to school equipment and lunches)

but why extra perks? this sites about giving away, I really don't care if you contributed $1,$10 or even $1000

everyone has an equal chance to win, giving contributors extra perks is kind of unfair. not everyone has the income to contribute or has rich parents or something...

EDIT : ps you're not really concerned about privacy are you?

you're easy to find on the net and what I see confirms my statements

Just make your giveaways for contributors only. That way it will make more people want to contribute so they can get the better games.

Where do you think these gifts would come from? In other words you want to force people to give higher games only, make the free exchange into something like getrefs which clearly doesn't work (except for those on top.)

He states he has amassed $400+ contributions but fails to note that most of it is from cheap games like Rome or splitting up the ever so fruitful Indie Gala. Really pledging forward Spec Ops, which I didn't want so gaveaway and wouldn't consider AAA. F1 2011 is nice but 2012 is out even though it is AAA, as well as company of heroes being very cheap and out for a very long time. They used to giveaway company of heroes with magazines, video cards, etc. before it even came to steam, retail value has always been considerably low for Company of Heroes despite it being a good game. Nevertheless the hypocrisy is clear.

This site is called SteamGIFTS, you are giving something away. If you want something back for it then you need to find another site, SteamTRADES springs to mind. If the good feeling isn't enough for you then sure, stop contributing. It's great that you've done so much so far, and I'm sure most would be sorry to lose someone so generous, but you shouldn't expect anything in return.

OK... I'm not sure where to start with this, so I'll dive right in:

The site existed long before contributors received ANY bonuses at all, and yet people still contributed. Some people are generous without expecting something in return

The purpose of this site is not to turn into an elitist circlejerk. Give games if you want to help out other gamers, not to get better odds at winning or gain some kind of benefits: that's what the site is about.

Yea, there are a lot of individual bundle games given out, such as Blocks That Matter, Alien Breed 3: Descent, Alien Hallway, Worms Crazy Golf, Hacker Evolution Duality, Alien Breed 2: Assault, Syberia, and Bunch of Heroes. But some people can't buy the bundles due to the payment methods offered, or the fact that they may not have even $1 to spend on games, so there's really no reason to complain about that. If you don't want them, use the addon to filter them out.

Basically, the site is about giving... not taking.

You complain about indie games that are worth 1$ yet you have away 10copies of total rome, which was 1$ at some day.

You're not being generous if you want something in return. This site is about generous people and about people hoping to get lucky.

Look around for exclusive groups to join. They usually have like 70 or so members so chances of winning are high. There are many threads made in the forum about recruiting.
