I don't have the original copy. I was browsing the site watzatsong where people upload songs they don't know and it was uploaded by someone else. I can see if the original uploader can provide any more backstory on it.
I already uploaded the original 30 second version to youtube after another user suggested trying to get a copyright claim and then the original user added a longer version of the song. I will upload that to youtube as well. It's probably just an obscure remixed club song though, so it probably won't get a copyright claim.

I asked the original uploader and he added some info: "Found On An Old Home Made Audio Cassette.Probably BBC Radio 1.Other Songs On The Tape I Recognise Are From That Year".

How did you find that? Be a lot better to work with.
Bit crappy quality though, if it was more crisp maybe we could hear the words better, but if it's obscure and noone posted lyrics it's not much use that way.
He does seem to say in the end come on.

I sent the user a message on the original site in the comments asking if he had the full song. Luckily this site sends you an email when you get a comment because this song was uploaded 1 1/2 years ago.

Not really finding that soundcloud example sounding anything similar, you got these dj's that had a show each week, so for a year there could have been 52 shows/mixes, and then there could have been several dj's.
https://www.mixcloud.com/tegers/darren-emerson-underworld-essential-mix-bbc-radio-1-1996-02-04/ more songs with some text.
if you search from there essential mix 1996 you get a lot of entries, good luck in going through. ;)

Yeah, I didn't realize how many there were. I skimmed through 14 of the essentials from Paul Oakenfold from 1993-1999 with no luck.

I had it stuck in my head all day yesterday :)
I'm going to be sad if I finally find out what the song is and learn that those 30 seconds were the only good part and I don't like the rest of it :(

Yeah, I'm losing interest in finding it. I really liked the short 30 second part, but the longer version wasn't as good.

There is no giveaway here. I was just wondering if anyone knows this song. Someone posted it over a year ago on watzatsong.com and I saved the page hoping someone would know it, but it was never found. It reminds me of the movie Hackers, but I already searched through the soundtrack.
I also tried searching for the lyrics which didn't help either. It's hard to understand what is being said in the beginning, then it sounds like: "we might be, such good friends, in the end".
Edit: Everyone seems to hear something different. I originally though the beginning sounded like something similar to "we all tend to agree", but agree didn't sound right. Now I think the beginning sounds like: "we all have the time to grieve" and then the rest, "we might be, such good friends, in the end"

If you prefer to listen on youtube, I uploaded it here. A couple users recommended trying that to see if it would get a copyright claim and name the song. I contacted the original uploader and got a longer version which I also posted to youtube. There are no extra lyrics though. longer version
Hmm, what if I monetize my youtube channel, upload the song, and then claim it as mine. Then Youtube will go through all it's other videos, search for the song, and place a copyright claim on the videos. I bet that would find the song :)
Update: The original uploader added this: "Found On An Old Home Made Audio Cassette.Probably BBC Radio 1.Other Songs On The Tape I Recognise Are From That Year."
Update 5 years later: The song has been identified on the site linked above. Here is the song if anyone ever comes across this thread again: PepeLee - 18 Wheeler - The Hours And The Times
