I have been offered a Bioshock Infinite steam game key for my Counter Strike Complete steam gift from my inventory.

Does this sound like a decent deal, I haven't dealt with many keys and I'm not sure on the average trade value for them.

Thank you in advance for the responses.

If the key is good. Remember to check the trader's rep and he has to go first with the key.

how have you been approached ? did you make a thread on steamtrades or the guy added you out of nowhere ?

Nah, seems legit to me. There were AMD codes and this is a key we're talking about here. Just make sure he goes first.

Edit: Whoops, I was looking at the current sale price on CS complete, not the lowest, so it does seem a bit iffy.

Well, depends on the context mostly. I sold BioShock Infinite for 10 euro locally, got it from a guy with the AMD promo indeed.

But by itself it does not say much. If the guy has a steamtrades profile for example with decent rep, and is in fact the same guy and not in impersonator (simply check hy clicking the 'view steam profile' on steamtrades), it would seem legit to me.

You heard of sales man? + It's a key. You don't really seem like a trader, at least, not a fair and good trader.

Even if he does go first he can just reclaim the key after and get it revoked anyway... Sounds too good to be true, probably a scam or some sort.

Too good to be true.

Not really, you can get the game for around 10$ in trading.

Too good to be true, most likely a scam of some kind. CS complete was like $5 or even less a week ago.

I strongly advice you NOT to do this trade. Bioshock has a trade value of around $15 now. Your CS is worth around 4 keys. It's too good to be true. I am willing to bet this is a scam.

You can use my 150 rep as a gauge of whether I am right or wrong.

how did the guy made contact ? did he leave you a message on you steamtrades thread so that you can have a look on his - hypothetical - reputation ?

I met the guy through gameminer, with not much interaction. But he is a friend of a trustworthy friend of mine who vouches for him and says its absolutely a legit key, I don't think it's a fake key, but I guess you can't be too careful yeah.

Wow, thanks all for the responses, I wasn't expecting much feedback :D

Never trade something for a key. You're most likely going to be scammed. (Unless you know the guy really well...)

Same here, just be cautious who you trade with.

Remenber that keys go first in trades, check if the key is not for a region restriction game when you claim it, also, its a risk trade since it can be a key purshased with stolen credit cards in cheap sites and if the original ownerask for refund and backtrack that credit card, steam will erase the game from your inventory moths later.

Its up to you but i will not trade a gift for a key.

Keys don't always go first. Reputation determines who goes first unless the reputation of both individuals is very close to equal.

Yes thanks to people think that way, is why people get scamed:
Scammers farm reputation with ok trades then scam, and later we see people posting that they got scamed by someone with tons of +rep and they go first with a gifeable for tha...

No thanks you, keys go first for me, end of history.

And if keys always went first, no matter reputation, then it would be the guys with keys getting scammed.

I think you are exaggerating the number of instances where someone with high rep of a legitimate nature (i.e. on Steam Trades, Source OP, etc, not profile rep) scammed anyone. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's not frequent. In fact, of all of the people who I have personally been aware of getting scanned, all were scammed by people who I would have pegged as scammers from miles away because of their sketchy looking profiles and too-good-to-be-true offers.

KEYS ALWAYS GO FIRST Other than that, I don't trade to much, but make sure he trades first.

Not.

Depends on reputation. I have 100~, I won't ever go first with a guy with no rep, even if he has a tradeable copy.

Nope.

Wrong, rep determines who goes first unless both people have very close rep (i.e. within about 10 reps of each other).

Trade with him only if he has good rep, other than that it's a decent deal.

I will heed everyone's advice here. I'll make sure he goes first that way there is no way for it to go bad for me.
I think I will go through with it.

Actually there are risks even if he goes first, the key might be revoked later on. That's why I said it's the best to just trade with high rep people. (40 rep)

There is always a way for it to go bad, even with a gift. Chargeback or stolen credit card information, maybe it disappears next month, and you no longer remember who you got it from...

I'm in agreement with most of the people responding in this thread, trading for keys, especially expensive games such as Bioshock Infinite, is way too risky these days with all the scammers around.

I would just wait for someone with a tradable copy of Bioshock Infinite to trade for your CS:Complete gift.

Which will most likely never happen unless the full retail price on Steam drops.

I heard many people that has traded for Bioshock Infinite keys got their game removed from Steam library after few weeks or months, so be careful... I think he wants to scam you, well I'm pretty sure.

I never trade keys, you never know what you will get. I would only do it if the guy allows me to get the key first and activate it to make sure it works.
