how some of you got started and came across SteamGifts

My friends got tired of me spamming them with free game keys, and one suggested I come here to give them away.

how is it that you guys afford to do all these giveaways?

I work my ass off at two jobs and fortunately they pay me pretty decently for my time.

Wouldn't you prefer one job and use free time to spend that money? Unless you enjoy both of them then all that is left is envy for you :P

It's a long story, but one job lost some of its contracts and work was cut back (so I needed a career change), but I still enjoy the job, love my boss and the people I work with -- so now I work two jobs instead of one. I just don't work that job nearly as much as I used to.

I don't sleep much, so it works out.

When I first came to SG, I had a bunch of unused keys from years of buying Humble Bundles. That's how I got started. Now I mostly give away leftover keys for bundles I buy occasionally. I do however have a perk - my boyfriend buys games and bundles all the time and is not a member of SG, so sometimes he gives me keys for games he knows he will never want to play.

Buy bundle with money you can afford to lose, because giving is letting someone owning what You have without expecting something back
otherwise, it's greed not generous

Don't do giveaways if you don't feel like it.

Outside small gifting (i call it random trading) groups. there is little benefit to making GA. Other than that warm feeling that someone might enjoy the game they got from you.

Most of my GA are from bundle games that I already have or are completely not interested in and its fine.

There are rare ppl that want and can afford making many AAA giveaways, but again, they don't get that much benefit out off it. They do it because they want to.

You come first! Ignore the users who say that it's better to make giveaways than to feed yourself or pay your rent. I'd be deeply upset if I found out the great game I just won is only mine because someone wasn't taking care of themselves. I don't care how much someone who receives one of my giveaways has "given back." I'd much rather they leave me a nice, personalized thank you message.

If it really bothers you, then yeah, you can keep an eye out for deals and carefully spend money there. But don't feel obliged to. These games are meant to be gifts, after all!
