I bought not long ago ago the HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset for like 30 bucks and I've enjoyed it a lot. Great sound quality but I really haven't test the mic. I know it works but I don't know how good it is. They're really comfortable, even after using them for long periods of time. Sorry you had a bad experience with the previous headset, maybe it was a faulty unit, you should get one again, I've read those are really good...

I use this too. Quality is not good tho, it's average at best. Mic is okay. Overall, it just works without a problem and that's what is expected from a budged headset.

I've been using a Corsair Vengeance 1500 USB and I'm plenty happy with it.
They don't make it anymore, but perhaps one of their newer headsets might be worth a look.

Looks like the Void Pro RGB is on sale at Newegg for about $60
The Logitech G-Series are also reasonably priced, and Logitech is typically top notch.

I can confirm, I had the audio issue with the yellow one on PS3, PS4 and Xbox 360, I assume it's universal.
How's the durability on yours? When I had one for a short time, I ended up returning it to the store within a week because it felt so fragile and like it would just fall apart if I touched it wrong. Reviews tend to say they're sturdy, though.

I have a Hyper X Cloud II and it's great. The buzzing might be an issue with the cable or your usb ports. My friend bought a high end mic and there was buzzing until he bought a splitter cable for the audio channels which fixed it.

I use the same headset. Probably the only headset in the $1-$100 range where audio quality holds up to good headphones, build material is great and very resistant to stress, no creeks at all due to high use of faux leather and steel instead of cheap plastic. I use them for listening to music and are better than most "gaming" brands like Astro, Steelseries, Razer or Turtle Beach.

Depends on your budget, but lots of them are good. Plantronics Rig 500e is my overall favorite since it's modular and high quality. Razer (any besides the manowar tournament edition), Logitech (any pretty much)... Also there's Cougar, Thermaltake, and Patriot in the other brand budget range. Not a fan of Corsair but you might like them.
Also Creative if you like them still. Just get a new model. Clearly you dislike HyperX but they are notable for their quality so it's probably just a one time thing (or your sound jack is having too much electrical interference). There are higher end headphones but they're not in your budget and you probably couldn't run them anyway. :P

How much are you willing to spend? Sennheiser makes some pretty good headphones, and has a decent headset (Sennheiser Game One). I use the Sennheiser 598 SR + Modmic combo. A little bit pricier but they're good headphones and the mic is decent quality.
Don't go with Astros, the newer Astro mixamps have issues and their headsets are overpriced in general. You can get better quality for cheaper and their mics are pretty crappy. I used an Astro A40 + Mixamp (2011 version I think) for about 4 years. They screws kept popping out and the cord eventually came apart. The older Astro mixamps aren't bad, I think the 2013 version is regarded as the best. Might be worth it to get one of the old mixamps on ebay and grab a different brand of headphones/headset to go with it. Best bang for your buck.

I had an Astro A50 Gen2 for several years, one of the best headsets I owned, the mic was solid, the output was great. When it passed away I grabbed a Gen3, and boy do I regret it. At least Astro is good on their warranties. The mic is trash on the Gen3, the output is good, but for some reason the headset keeps bugging out and randomly switching wireless channels, the mixamp can't decided whether it wants to run as PC or PS4 with my PC, and the last one I had them replace somehow stopped outputting any audio, but was feeding what I was expecting to hear through the mic.
I personally like wireless headsets, if I end up replacing this one I'll be grabbing one of the Corsair Void Elite headsets. When cables are an option, I absolutely love using a Sennheiser with Modmic. A friend of mine introduced me to that several years ago, but with my sitting distance from my computer it's not very feasible.

I've been using an ASUS Cerberus for 4 months. I'm satisfied with it, the sounds are good, keeps out noise, mic works well.
The ROG headsets may be even better but I didn't want to spend too much.
I went into a store to try out some models, both for comfort and sound quality. Unfortunately, there were no HyperX series there, so I couldn't compare to that. The other contender for me was the Logitech G231, which sounded good but it was very flimsy and a little uncomfortable.

Used lots of crappy ones until I got Audio Technica ATH-AD700X.
That is the best pair of headphones I have ever used on gaming. For mic, I use the the legendary Zalman Zm-Mic1.

The best bet would be to skip headsets altogether and get a headphones + external microphone combo. Most headsets sound really bad with music and overly use bass boost for gaming purposes. With the same price for a medium quality headset you can buy a great pair of headphones, look for Sennheiser, Plantronics, Audio Technica and AKG brands (or Superlux if you're in a tight budget) and pair them with the Zalman microphone.

I'm using the Hyper X Cloud 2 and I'm somewhat disappointed. Audiowise, they are more than okay for that price point. I'm not that demanding, as far as audio quality goes, anyway.
The build quality is great, except for the leather (at least in my case). After 2 years of use, it is shredding to pieces on both earcups and on the top headrest. I've asked for a replacement of the earcups back when they still were under warranty and I got one of them replaced (as only 1 of them had the issue back then). Mind you, that this damage is not covered by their warranty so there is a chance they'll refuse to replace them.
All in all, they are good headphones for that price range. If I were to buy again, I'd go for something non gaming and buy a mic separately.

I got the Hyper X Cloud Revolvers. Great headset I chose it instead of the Cloud 2's.

I use Sennheiser PC 360 SE, really nice quality of sound and mic, a bit pricey tho

I am using Plantronics Gamecom 788 for the past year and half or so which replaced my old 5 years old pair of Gamecom 780 where the cable got screwed up at set itself on fire :(
If I can unrecommended a series of headsets, do not get any of the Siberia series because my boyfriend went through 2 or 3 of those, they all broke really fast and sounded like absolute garbage.

Better buy a music headset + separate mic, you get better quality sound and better mic, many music headsets for same or even little less than the price of a gaming one are far better in sound quality.
Like Audio-Technica ATH-M30X or M40X, Sony MDR-7506, or some Sennheiser. Or less expensive versions of the said ones. And for mic I got one with a tripod from Trust, cna be bought for less than $/€12, and its good.

I had the exact same headset for a few years (wasn't using the attached mic though since I have a freestanding one) and after it broke I bought the same one again xD
It's been another few years since then I'm still happy about my decision. The most important factor for me is that headphones need to be really comfortable and so far I've never had anything better on my head :)

Trust me, when I say go with this one:
Creative Sound Blaster Tactic3D Alpha
I have it since years and it works awesome. PROs are low price and good sound quality, over all quality, it's comfy af and has a nice bass. The only potential CON is that the cable is flat and seems vulnerable so you gotta watch out for not rolling over it with your chair. I did it a few times unintentionally but luckily nothing happened. :)
Also, how much of a difference does a windscreen make compared to those that don't have them?
Every headset has that. On some it's on the outside and some have it built in on the inside or rather they are wrapped in something to (probably) make it look better?! (see the sennheiser one suggested above)
Those windscreens reduce surrounding noises or for example the "wind" of your breath when you inhale and exhale oxygen.

I am very happy with my Arctis 5. If you look around a bit you can get it cheaper than what Steelseries says it'll cost. Got mine for €80 instead of the shown €130.
Sound is pretty good (7.1 surround) and I haven't heard anything bad from my friends about the quality of the microphone (which is retractable btw, so isn't in the way when just listening to some music).

For what it's worth-- and it's just an FYI-- I think the Bugs / Suggestions category is for reporting SG website bugs and offering suggestions about/for SG.
But looks like you got some nice feedback! =)

Another suggestion: Logitech G430 or any headset with usb soundcard.

Hello SG users!
So my headset recently wore out after using it for nearly 5 years. I'm not sure how to go about picking my next headset so I was wondering what kinds of headsets you guys use.
This was the headset I used: https://www.amazon.com/Creative-HS800-Fatal1ty-Gaming-Headset/dp/B002DS4HTM
I was quite surprised with the quality for its value which is exactly why I got it in the past.
I actually recently got a new headset, but I had an issue. Everytime I spoke, there would be this sound in the background. My friends said it sounded like an alarm repeatedly going off or crickets chirping in the background. So I've returned it.
This was the headset I bought and returned: https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-KHX-HSCC-BK/dp/B0153XL4V2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1519532046&sr=1-3&keywords=hyperx
Do you guys have any suggestions on what headsets are good for gaming or have really good sound quality in general? Also, how much of a difference does a windscreen make compared to those that don't have them?
