Hello SG users!
So my headset recently wore out after using it for nearly 5 years. I'm not sure how to go about picking my next headset so I was wondering what kinds of headsets you guys use.
This was the headset I used: https://www.amazon.com/Creative-HS800-Fatal1ty-Gaming-Headset/dp/B002DS4HTM
I was quite surprised with the quality for its value which is exactly why I got it in the past.

I actually recently got a new headset, but I had an issue. Everytime I spoke, there would be this sound in the background. My friends said it sounded like an alarm repeatedly going off or crickets chirping in the background. So I've returned it.
This was the headset I bought and returned: https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-KHX-HSCC-BK/dp/B0153XL4V2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1519532046&sr=1-3&keywords=hyperx

Do you guys have any suggestions on what headsets are good for gaming or have really good sound quality in general? Also, how much of a difference does a windscreen make compared to those that don't have them?

Like many others, I'm using the HyperX Stinger too for a year and a half. They are generally considered to be among the best headphones with mic combo at that price (~50€ here, but I know in other countries they are cheaper), and I can confirm the sound quality is really good. Microphone is ok I guess, really nothing special, but still better than any 10-15€ headset from Logitech and others. Materials feel a bit cheap, but not much, the plastic seems to be quite sturdy considering how many times mine felt to the ground and surviving without a scratch. HyperX headsets are usually well worth the price, the problem you had was probably related to a defective unit?

I'm currently using Creative's HS-800 and like you said, it's been surprisingly good for the money. (I also had the HS-1000 which was great, but after about 7 years and more accidental drops than I'd care to admit, the left speaker cut out.)

If I had to replace my headset today, though, I'd consider getting the V-MODA BoomPro microphone and use it with good pair of headphones. If you wanted to go that route on the cheap, the Monoprice 8323's supposedly have fantastic performance for their price.

I really like separate headphones and microphone. But if I were to get a headset, I would get the Massdrop X Sennheiser PC37X: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-pc37x-gaming-headset Though you will have to wait some time to get it, if you're okay with that. But I think it's one of the best headsets you can get.
