(2011) Decided to buy Battlefield, tried out max settings, unplayable, realize I'm too poor to buy a new computer. Anyways, doesn't matter to me, Battlefield 3 looks sexy on any setting =P (sour grapes).

Arma 3 can't exactly be run on max, since the view distance will choke the CPU.

On the other hand, it scales really nicely. I managed to get it working with decent framerate below minimum requirements. Compared to Arma 2, it's fantastic.

Grew up playing half life 2 at 20 fps at 640x480. No, I dont get disappointed by it. I generally expect everything to run like shit.

well now I've got a laptop since I had to fuck off to university. It runs most everything pretty well.

Back in the day we had a computer that the same amount power as a toaster. It would overheat and blue screen after 20 minutes of use as well.

I have a decent laptop that can run anything Nvidia or Source on really good settings (except Just Cause 2, that lags if I put the settings up).

The only game I have had an issue with was Crysis 3, and that was on the inside where its said to be normal at. Haven't bothered trying to set it to max outside, looks fine enough to me anyways.

This one takes the cake for me: I have DirectX 11, but Source Filmmaker won't run because it thinks I don't have DirectX 9.

Well you still have to install DX9 runtimes because it's not included in DX11.

I've had the DX9 runtimes for years and other DX9 games work fine.

I can't run the first Assassin's Creed, I get in the game and I have 1-5 fps and even the sound lags out. New ones won't even work.

that moment when i cant run a game on max settings?, has happened to me about 80% of the time.

moment when i cant even run it?, about 50% of the time.

i have learned to live with my skyrim on 15 fps normally (and 5 when stuff like fire gets on my way), yeah, a game that can run at a minimum of 15 fps is enough for me, i find it often funny when people complain about not running it for more than 30 fps, 30 fps would be like paradise to me

Same, i'm usually hanging around 15-20 FPS. Your situation seems terrible though, for me the game would be unplayable with that choppy of a framerate.

I no longer know that feel.

Yep, happens with most games because I have a two year old laptop with crappy integrated graphics. I'm lucky to get low settings in some games, much less max.

That happened to me my entire life, before this PC I was lucky if I could even start the game :P

Hmm nope...that was back before I had a laptop with integrated card. I'm happy enough if I can run heavy 3D games (like Fallout) in 15 FPS.
Now that I own a laptop with better dedicated card...I can say I'm slightly disappointed if I can't run at max, but no biggie.
