Well, steam kept becoming more and more greedy, so it was only normal to see other platforms eventually rise.

Which is what? The other platforms, you mean? Well, the Epic Games store is rising right now. Maybe more will appear. Platforms like Origin and Uplay only depend on their own games.

steam greed
is it their 70/30? it's always been like that before and nobody complain ever (until now though)
honestly all i ever see from steam is their SALE SALE SALE, anything greedy is all on me (greedy on games i want to buy, but no money lol)
Comment has been collapsed.
Just because you didn't see them complaining, it doesn't mean they liked it. Origin, Uplay, GOG, etc., wouldn't exist if everyone was satisfied with steam. But it's not JUST that. It's how they treat their users as well. If users are unsatisfied with one platform, they may end up using another. Have you noticed all the rules that steam has implemented through the years? Unfair regional prices, not being able to keep gifts in the inventory, not being able to gift a game to other regions, etc. I think that competition is healthy - that'll make steam be less greedy in the future and more user friendly.
Comment has been collapsed.
really? i dont see it that way (based on what i've read all these years)
those who dissatisfied are there, but in the minority. it's quite normal since steam itself has million of users.
sure steam isn't perfect, the only greed thing i remember AFAIK is when they make "payed mod" for skyrim, but's it's been taken down.
GOG is there because of GOOD OLD GAMES (at first) and lately DRM free. is this because of steam greed? doesnt seem like it
origin and uplay? now this one you can call it greed (not really actually), but it's fine since they sell their OWN games on their OWN platform (unlike who knows who). steam greed again?
unfair reg price, sometimes it's cheap in other region sometimes it's not. i use steamdb a lot so i know, in the end IT DOESN'T MATTER since your price is usually cheaper than in US or japan. at least it's cheaper in my region, sometimes
gift and gifting is unavailable because if you buy from cheaper region and then SELL it again, then that beats regional pricing in the first place. the most harmed from this is those gift hoarder (seller) not end gamer. those money are also used to PAY game developer, not just steam. is this also greed?
sigh really, i still don't get which part of your comment is "steam greed"???
if you're actually mean that 70/30 revenue or steam "monopoly" then i might agree. but still there's a reason for that
70/30 is NORMAL, way before there's this fiasco. heck even App store and Google store does that (before)
steam monopoly are also because, there's NO competitor for so long. it's competitor is either gone completely or become "just another online game store". they just can't compete
read this http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/LarsDoucet/20190124/335114/So_You_Want_To_Compete_With_Steam_Epic_Discord_Kartridge_and_RobotCache.php
in the first place i dont get how is steam being greedy when there's NO worthy competition. if there's no multitude of feature, no seasonal discount and the price are always expensive on steam, now that's greed, but it's NOT
other can make their own store just because they can. if they have some "feature" then it's their highlight. BEAT steam with that. i highly encourage that (like everyone does)
but when their supposed "feature" is exclusivity, especially when they already posted in steam and remove it, now that's low, very very low. wow after those FREE advertising on steam, FREE forum on steam (untill it's gone though). not really free but whatever lol
in the end, did you EVER buy from steam sale or bundles? it all needs steam!!! and it's CHEAP!! avg pizza in US is 12-14$ same as full bundle and pizza are just a single meal (or two or thrice)
compared to original game price, it's super cheap. even supposed to be a "new" AAA games are usually in bundles
now how about other store (which doesn't sell steam key), which one is cheaper???? even with their discount

It has millions of users because there were no serious competitors till now. If the Epic Games store starts selling all the games that steam sells, it'll eventually have a bigger active user base. But it's still new, so that'll take a long time.
You know only this one greedy thing, because you haven't been noticing all these changes that have been implemented through the years - I know them, because I used to be a trader. And all these changes also made steam not so user-friendly.
No, the european price is almost always higher than other regions (I live in Greece, which is one of the poorest european countries).
And is it fair not to be able to gift to other people? This screwed people creating giveaways and friendly people that were gifting to foreign people.
Yeah, it's also about 70/30, but as I said before, not just that. If there are no serious competitors, they may even ask for more in the future. And if a developer don't get much profit by selling their game on steam, then don't expect them to give you a good discount in the sales. That also makes them wanna move their game to another platform. Wouldn't you do that too, if you were in their place?
Well, yeah, the games are always expensive on steam. Do you remember the good old sales, with the huge discounts? Now, I see some older games that used to have some good discounts, having even smaller discounts now. But, as I said, this is also probably because they're not happy with the profit they're making. If they're making a bigger profit in the Epic Games store, then they'll probably give you even bigger discounts in the future.
Well, you know, they're also giving away two free games per month (I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's 2 games per month). But exclusivity is their way to rise. If it was both being sold on steam and epic, why would people go buy it on epic? To give more profit to the Metro devs? They wouldn't even care. They would just choose the easiest option.
But it's true that the timing of the Metro devs was bad. They should have been selling it on epic from the beginning, not now, some days before its release.
I told you that sales suck now. The discounts aren't that good anymore. You rarely see historical low prices nowadays. And what does this even have to do with pizzas? I can buy a pizza with 5 euros here then. :P And most bundles include bad games or random games that you don't know beforehand.
I told you that the Epic Games store is still new. It's not a serious competitor yet, since it's still in the process of adding games. They have to create a forum, add some sales, etc.

No, I don't hate Epic Games.
Also, i don't hate any other publishers that have their own launcher. The only thing i hate is exclusivity bullshit. I've bought PS4 only because of Bloodborne, otherwise i would not have ever bought it. Give players choice where to buy, don't sell games exclusively on one platform and maybe people will actually support you. If they don't wanna do that, they can go and fuck themselves. It's that simple for me.

No, I don't hate the Epic store, but I'm comfortable right here on Steam, thank you very much :)

before i was, nothing much
now after reading that metro exodus is GONE from steam, FCK 'EM (still not entering because no GA lol)
i doubt those AAA games gone from steam JUST BECAUSE of low fee from epic... no way (especially with some theory-theory out there)
just to compare steam user base it still doesn't make sense, hell there's already low fee in steam for those AAA games in the first place (although epic still better)
it's not like gamer who buys gonna get more discount or price reduction in the first place

It's not showing anything in my library either, and now it's not even signing me in. First big day, I'm sure the servers are in a panic.

I don't hate Epic but they annoy me. They spend all their time telling devs on why they should sell on their store without bothering to explain why I should buy from them. As far as I'm concerned, they are no different than humble, except they don't offer bundles. I can buy and download my games from them, but that is about it.
You would figure that a company with that much cash behind wouldn't half ass it.

Epic crap + fortnite launcher are the cancer of modern gaming industry. Even more than EA nowdays, they're not even a shadow of themselves from 2000th.

I do not hate it but the UI is impractical and I don't personally like it. WIth more and more games added it really needs to be changed. Imagine thousands of squares and trying to find something from there :D And it needs a wishlist badly. With those fixed, to me it's just like these other extra launchers I have to deal with (Bethesda, Uplay).

Meh. But I like the fact that people seem to like BorkFortnite Battle Royale more than Save the World "DLC"

Epic's a bit of a shit situation. But I don't feel bad for them because they did it themselves willingly.
Instead of improving themselves, they use their big money (made from one of the most loved and hated games of current time) to basically hoard anything they can to themselves. Their store is so unintuitive, it's unreal (pun intended). They aren't making their launcher better, they're not adding community features. They're not lowering their prices.
Epic isn't a good option. It's a bad store. But instead of improving themselves, they resulted to bribes.
It's a shame. Epic could've been a great store.

any EU lawyer here?
"The competition rules laid down in Articles 81 and 82 of the Treaty establishing the European Community (Treaty) prohibit, in respect to the common market, the conclusion of agreements that restrict competition, as well as the abuse of a dominant position. These rules are in compliance, as far as their content is concerned, with their counterparts in the Competition Act, which prohibit agreements that restrict competition and the abuse of a dominant position."
Exclusivities from beginning is one thing but being bribed to stop ongoing sales on a rival platform might be against european unions competitions law. Does it worth to report epic to the european competition office?

Not specific hate but actually Epic store offer just doesn't attract me enough to install another launcher.
I installed Uplay because Ubisoft produces and sells enough games that attract me : Ghost recon, Splinter cell, Anno, etc.
So if Epic doesn't get for example Suikoden or something very special, i won't buy from them.
About Division 2, i don't feel hyped about it, maybe one day will buy it on Uplay but not on Epic.
And i think Ubisoft doesn't really care about Epic, they just want to remove it from Steam... to incite players to buy it on Uplay !
