I put up a giveaway
http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/hq7lh/humble-indie-bundle-3
This person won
http://steamcommunity.com/id/dragonsdeath

A minute after the giveaway ends, and after I sent the email, I get a friend invite from "dragonsdeath", and since he was online I figured I send it to him via steam chat instead of wait for him to check his email. but it's not until later that I realized that it's a different profile
http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198034011683

As you can see here, he's constantly changing his name
http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198034011683/namehistory

Also, after I sent him the gift, his profile says he's ignoring me! So I think I gave the gift to the wrong person!

You fell for that new scam:
http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/4pafw/new-scam-when-a-giveaway-ends-only-send-it-to-the-email-that-the-site-gives-you

I feel sorry for the guy who should have won but it's not your fault, sayedstafa.

This really pisses me off, this is my first giveaway on this site and it ends up like this!

I've got an extra humble #3 + #2 bundle if you want to hook your winner up with it, add me on steam and I'll send you the key

This is the 2nd time Kane has offered to do this. He deserves ice cream... again.

Thanks a lot Kane! I feel a lot better that Dragonsdeath got his prize, but I'm still pissed that some jerk scammed me out of getting free games from me.

So far, I yet to send a single gift to the e-mail address. I add the winner to the friends list manually through the linked Steam account in the usernames over here, and send them the gift through Steam using the "send to friend".
That way, it also lets me bug them a bit in chat to mark the gift as sent on this site when they received it ;)

Thanks for the notice, the scammer has been banned from SteamGifts.

what does that solve? you can view the site even without an account so he can just keep running his little scam

I wouldn't mind if the winners/participants and maybe some other stuff could be hidden until you're logged in SteamGifts.

What does it solve? The user is now unable to take a part in legitimate giveaways, and it should discourage others from attempting the same. They'll always be able to view the site, all we can do is inform users of scams, and ban accounts.

would it be possible to eventually set up a link to show all steamgifts members that were banned?

Possible remedy: don't announce the winner until the gift has been received.

Note: the latest winners on the homepage would then become a list of the latest people to receive their gift as opposed to the winners of the most recent giveaways.

I second this idea, keep the winners confidential until they receive their gift

So simple I'm surprised this isn't how it was to begin with...

Do it! :D

I agree, banning people from entering legitimate giveaways won't stop them from trying to scam other people from theirs. In fact, it might make the risk even greater because they might want to get back at the site.

Steamgifts should partner with Steamrep so that we can mark that fool as a scammer.

This infuriated me so I reported him to Steam, and left a message on his profile. I have some Russian ancestry, he gives us a bad name!

1 thing: NEVER EVER EVER and NEVER accept "that" people invites if they won gift to firendlist on steam, Why? Because you said he invited you to his friend list so that means he want HIB 3 really bad or he is a scamer. Just do this: Send that game cd-key via e-mail or invite him to steam friends but never accept him if he invites you first

Its sad people would stoop so low as to impersonate some one on steam to get a free game.
Thanks to sayedstafa and Kane, this was my first steam gift win!
