Roughly how far are you in the adventure?
Wow, you put a lot of effort into this! I went a little way in, then I got stuck and lost interest.

Added a small hint to the giveaway in HR.
Lots of people seem to be stuck with this puzzle (it is the worst of the puzzles), and I might release some other hints a little earlier than I'd planned. Or I might start revealing some more about the giveaways. Or both.
And I may re-make the thread for more accurate poll results. Just felt integrity-wise that I owed it to this thread since I had promised it would be on this thread back in 2017.
Also, please feel free to ask questions. I would actually like to see a lot of people make it through the entire factory!

Woohoo, what a breathtaking ending!!! All the final seven or eight screens are such a great ride! I really loved your writing and all the way through the factory (and beyond) I was so sorry I missed your survey and wasn't there among all the others. Oh, and the themed giveaways (thanks for Skyrim, btw) helped a lot to remember how to find my way to specific rooms - another great idea.
I hope people will not get discouraged by the thief and accounting puzzles which are a bit tedious, because after that it's all just fun and puzzles are truly like pieces of cake.

Bump for solved. I think? Again, thanks for making this, this was a great experience! I actually enjoyed the first two puzzles quite a bit, maybe even slightly more than the later puzzles, if only for the greater sense of achievement when solving them, but everything was pretty great.

Yep, you got everything!
Kinda nice to hear that you had fun with the first puzzles, too! I do like their personality, but I know/assume they can also have their frustrations.
Thank you very much for taking the time to make your way through the factory! :)

You're very welcome. Also, if you're interested, through the entirety of my runthrough, I didn't write a single thing down (can't really have conspicuous notes with weird number/letter combinations lying around on my desk at work without raising questions) but instead ended up heaving about fifty tabs open in my browser.I guess that's one way to do it! Your puzzles seemed very structured and well thought-out to me, once I understood what was asked from me, but that's a thing every text adventure has issues with and you managed to keep that to a minimum. The biggest challenge for me was actually figuring out, how this kind of thing works, as I'm fairly new to the forums, even though I've been a member of steamgifts for quite some time. I've spent so much time clicking on things, hoping for things to actually happen! Also, this must have cost you a fortune. I rarely give away anything special but please accept me whitelisting you for all your hard work. Oh yeah, and happy belated birthday! I almost forgot that that's the reason for all of this (sorry).

(sorry for the delay in reply, had to be mostly afk for three days)
Not writing anything down? I didn't even realize it could be solved that way! :D I'm definitely impressed! :D
And I'm glad to hear that it usually wasn't too difficult to figure out what needed to be done, although I'm sure that difficulty is varying from person to person.
As far as figuring out how this sort of thing works, I think my puzzle is fairly unique, so congrats on figuring out the 5-char SG codes and the longer SGTools codes! There are a few other good sort of room-to-room explorations on SG, but I kept an eye on 'em as I was developing this hoping no one would quite get to this particular style before me. :) dingbat's ZORK recreation (also linked in the main post), and Corran's D&D-based Mansion are probably the closest that I've seen, and I quite enjoyed exploring both of them!
As for spending a fortune... a bit, yes. At the very least, when developing this over the course of around a year though, you can grab things on sale. :)
And the WL is very welcome, even if you never use it -- thank you! :)
(Also, "cakeday" around here (or factory day if you think the cake icon looks like a factory) is generally your SteamGifts join date, so I'm going to take the "happy belated birthday" as an early happy birthday instead! :D Thanks! :D)

Heh, talking about late replies...
Well that's embarassing, sorry for getting confused about the proper terminology. :D Happy belated cakeday then, as well as early birthday! Also, thank you for linking your source of inspiration, im currently having a great time with the ZORK recreation!

The Cake Factory, an interactive text adventure... [SGTools Lvl 2+]
A walkthrough for The Cake Factory has now been posted.
Although this topic is now closed, The Cake Factory adventure will remain available for the foreseeable future should you wish to play it.
The Cake Factory closed on Saturday, September 15th at 5:21 PM Pacific time!
If you're stuck on the thief puzzle, make sure to use the assistance of the ItsTooHard quiz (also linked from the comments in Orders & Fulfillment) as well as the table in Human Resources! If you've found the thief, but are stuck on the Supply Inventory puzzle, use the ItsTooHard puzzle again -- it identifies every item type of the items it asks about.
You can read more details about the event or the FAQ for the event (now including a list of games found inside the factory) in the first-post replies below.

An interactive text adventure...
Look > This appears to be some sort of puzzley giveaway event.
You vaguely recall that there are Guidelines about Entering these sorts of things and that leaking puzzle giveaways is a bannable offense.
You wisely decide never to do that.
