Well, it happens. Sometimes it is necessary, because otherwise the game dies.
What is definitely unfair is when a game simply goes poof! and ceases to exist, because it relies on game servers that are shut down. Even if game servers are not really necessary (because the game has a single player component or is mostly single player). Game server software should be released once a company shuts their own servers down.

I don't think I ever been in a situation like that. I usually wait for sales to get games, so i already get the games at a discounted rate.
But considering your scenario, if the game gets free like one year later then I'm ok with it, I had one year to enjoy the game. But if the game gets free a few hours later or one day after I bought it I would be a bit disappointing, not with the devs but with myself for not searching to check if there was any news about the game becoming free in the near future, since those things are usually announced.

is it fair, if you get a game much earlier just cause you have the money to buy it for full price?

i suppose it depends...if you buy a game, and they mark it free the next day? That would be unfair. If you buy a game, and play it for a year, or even a few months? Then I think that's fair, you got your enjoyment out of it. You played it and paid what you felt was a good price.
Now if it's an online game, I think the buyers should get special benefits. Be it cosmetic or what ever game tokens/coins/currency the F2P model is using.

Why wouldn't it be fair? You made a decision to purchase the game because you felt it was worth money... just because you 'could' have gotten it free at a later date doesn't change the fact you still felt it was worth money at the time. You got the game in a way that you felt it warranted.. those who didn't think it was worth the money but picked it up when it was free, got it in a way they felt the game warranted... technically everyone is happy with how they obtained the game at the time they did. Anything else is just sour grapes which you could apply to anything (i bought a game at 50% off, and now its 75% off..).. it might suck, sure, but you cant say you were cheated, and its certainly not unfair.

What do you think about the situation when you buy the game, and after a while, the game goes free, Is it a fair to the customers or not?
You might as well just never buy anything as at any moment after you buy the product it could go free, on sale, or lower in price. As I said this has nothing to do with being fair as at the time of purchase everyone had to pay the same price. It would not be fair if say two different people had two different prices.
They did nothing that was unfair you just had very bad timing.

If you regret paying for a game that eventually goes free, I personally think it's more a lack of satisfaction or enjoyment from the game than being unhappy about the price change.

Although it upsets your customers, it is eminently fair.
When the customer has a choice to buy or not, whatever price the customer is willing to pay is a fair market price. Some customers are willing to pay a high price to acquire what they want with the convenience of having it when they want it. Other customers are only willing to do without it unless and until the price comes down. When the need to have it now meets the level at which the customer is willing to pay for it now, the purchase is made.
Simple.
The only time the above does not apply is when the customer is forced to purchase, whether he wishes to do so or not. Such a situation allows the seller to set the price as anything he wants, knowing that the buyer has to purchase the goods irrespective of the price. Such a situation is called "price-gouging" and is illegal in most places.

Exactly, for instance there are a few game franchises I preorder, because I love them and want to play them ASAP. I'm sully aware they will go down in price or through sales within a few months...but I want to experience it now, and beat out any spoilers. Other games I wait...For instance Just Cause 3 has interested me...but not enough to pay 60 bucks...but right now it's on sale for 14.99...so I am contemplating getting it. Is that fair to people who paid 60 bucks for it? Of course, they had it when it comes out.
Bottom line, all games either go on sale, get bundled or just given away free. If you're going to be paranoid that people will get games for less than you...Then just don't but games at full price and only get 75%-90% sale items or bundled games.
