Hmmm, having a new, improved Steam chat initially sounded amazing to me, but I don't really know what to think about it seeing that it basically is a Steam port of Discord...

It looks alright even if I probably won't use most of those features. Now if only they could take this opportunity to also upgrade that snail party they try to pass off as a browser it would be amazing.

Only things so far I really dislike about it are:
- Didn't find a way to disable the Group Chats part in my Friends list to chat with
- When I for example type :P it adds the first emoticon that starts with that to the chat in stead of only suggesting it.

most sites/apps that use emoji autocomplete also let users disable it, so expect it to be added in valve-time (around 2020-2022). 😵

If you start Steam with -dev the client will bug with a black window, which if you close you can't reopen the chat.

This is a really good improvement, I like those changes a lot, finally time to ditch Discord for good :3.
(Although the amount of breaking changes is high as well, ASF/ArchiBoT will need update to entire chatting module)

Wishing for permanent storing like every other chat program provides since 20 years, but better than nothing.

When is Valve going to let us resize the UI and font? People have been complaining about this for years. Most of the text is hard to read because it's so small. And I'm only in 1080p. I can't imagine what people running 1440p and 4K are going through. Big Picture mode is not the answer because it's fullscreen, TOO big, awkward, and not what most people want. It's basically designed for couch/console users.

Yup, agree with it being basically discord, some good some bad, I personally like more simple minimalist styles and not the modern "everything in big icons and chunks of space" but I'll take some chat history. Would like the option to minimize group chat too, seriously never used it. Even discord gives the option for simplistic view, no I'm not memorizing useless avatar pictures( that can be changed at whim), I can read steam names just fine so please let me scan 3 names at a glance instead of just one and their picture.

The layout is pretty much unreadable to me (given my perception issues). Even putting aside the lack of minimalism, the presentation involves distracting empty spaces, poor sizing balance, clashing color dynamics, poor arrangement flow, etc. Here's hoping there'll be some skin options for chat, because right now it looks like something a teenager working on their first project would think is "cool", rather than something designed for functionality (or rather, terrible color scheme and sizing issues aside, it looks something quickly designed for mobile functionality rather than for PC use).
