Or you can buy 80 of them and attempt to fuse them or wear all 80 :)

Check Creative Tactic 3D Alpha , they're not so expensive i own them and all i can say it's well spent money

TBH i bought tactic 3d alpha after fatal1ty headphones broke , fatal1ty is probably the most comfortable headphones ever. Alpha is not bad though...

the way mine broke was that when i had the mic plugged into the headset the mic would not register but when i unplugged the mic and put it directly into my computer it worked. So the only part that broke was the part where the mic goes into the headset

I got issue now with microphone at usb to 3.5mm adapter , pink registers mic and i hear crack noise but it won't work... this happened when i pulled cable too much and it popped out.
Still sound is awesome

Thats the best way to do it, headsets usually not up to a good pair of headphones in quality. Many gamers tend to love the Audio Technica ATH-AD700, they are considered audiophile quality, they will do justice to games, movies, music wonderfully.
Very good sound stage, they are 99 dollars, add in a 10-15 dollar clip on mic and you will have something that will beat any headset.

I'll agree with most of this but its not exactly the best for certain types of music. If you want bass, you want to be looking at the Ultrasone Pro 550s instead. AD700 have a large sound stage and are very good for stuff like orchestral music but have very poor bass.
If you are on a budget, just go Samson SR850/Superlux 668b.
Just remembered Fostex T50RP are great too, especially if you mod them.

True enough and yes the Samson SR850/Superlux 668b/CAD Audio MH310 are incredible for the price. I thought the bass was ok actually, not booming but accurate, which I prefer.
Basically headphones + a clip on mic will land him a better more quality sound.

Its not booming or in your face, if he loves big bass these are not for him though, he seems more interested in these for gaming though which most think they do great at. The bass isn't to strong but its not really a problem for me because the sound spectrum is rather accurate and its still very noticeable.
Never listened or heard of the Fostex T50RP but thats something for me to look into I guess :-D.

I have multiple pairs but the Sennheiser HD25-II are my personal favorite. They seem to sound great with everything to me. Those are put of the OP's budget though and aren't over ear which are probably better for him if he is gonna mainly use them for computer use. I use the HD25 outside also, they are portable enough for that.
Plus he is probably looking for a big sound stage, these do not provide that...I am ok with that though, sometimes prefer a smaller sound stage depending...

^This... Quite awesome for gaming and pretty decent when it comes to day to day use as well...
Has a retractable mic + think you can plug it in to XBox as well with an adapter..
I've used one for a while, has taken a lot of throwing around and what not.. still works fiiine :D

These are actually really great for the price. Was surprised at the range of sound these actually delivered, even really good base. Having the retractable mic is nice too.
Also, places like amazon sell the plain white versions for about $20 cheaper then the other colors. White is about $68 and other colors are at least $90. Also, when I bought mine some colors offered shorter cords then the white model...this may have changed tho.
Really only negative I have with them are that the cord tends to get all twisted up, and the smaller cords after the split for the connections have actually cracked a bit because of this (over the course of a year). I'm not sure if its temp/humidity related tho as it seems to not always happen... It hasn't affected the use of them yet tho.

I was beginning to think no one had read the words "good quality headset", good to see someone eventually recommended sennheiser.
Other brands that make quality headphones or headsets (just get a clip on mic if you need to): Audio-Technica, Beyerdynamic, Denon, Grado, Klipsh and a few others that are harder to find and out of your price range.

I use my X12's for PC. They are for XBox but I've never used it for anything but PC. Inexpensive and good quality plus they come with the Xbox adapter already.

I never use mine for Xbox. Got them for free with gamestop points and I use them for PC only. They are $60 US and I have zero complaints about sound quality.

TurtleBeach Earforce X11's Good price 65 bucks.
Pros
Affordable Price
Simple to use
Comfortable to wear
Cons
Muddled Frequencies
Swivel Microphone
Build Quality (?)

I recommend Earforce x12 as well. Decent sound quality, swivel microphone like the x11 and has microphone monitoring to hear yourself, has an in-line amplifier, so you can control the bass, game, and chat volume, and usb powered. Works for both PC and Xbox360. =] I use mine mostly for PC and haven't had a problem other than remembering to switch the chat on.

And I can still hear your neighbors! Now what? Say something I dare you to. I know you're sleeping.

The Sennheiser PC 360 is the best headset available.

surround sound headsets are pretty bad dont fall for them ok, they try to market them to gamers saying they are better quality. instead of having 2 good stereo drivers they will have a bunch of bad drivers so it sounds like something worth half the price. good skill on your quest for a headset

Yes they attach to the headphones with a sticky tape, you're going to want to not use it for a couple of hours until it binds but after that you are good2go. And you can add me if you want and listen to the sweetness that is my voice.

I’m looking for a headset for the pc as my x41’s are rubbish for the pc. So I’m looking for a good quality stereo headset. It will also be used for xbox but I’ll get an adapter.
So good quality headset for under £80 (don’t need surround sound as I don’t play competitive anymore and I’m not that fussed)
Thanks
Thanks for the suggestions already, if possible with a mic :) if not I can always get clip on
EDIT: Hi, thanks everyone for the recommendations. Decided to got for the PC360's (ebay £80.01 including P&P) and OMG I adore them. Thanks everyone
