Probably not with a question this vague in the title.

No description is needed IF the title clearly explains exactly what is being asked but your title does not.

A description should be added. Also just because other people don't add one doesn't mean you shouldn't add one.

You would think, people making threads would respect other users and spend this few more second to elaborate a little and would add description. The question in the topic actually doesn't even sound like a question. Just some random sentence with '?' at the end.

Oh, and guess what - I lurk on this forum every day, I check many threads and I never saw a one without description.

I'm just going to second what the others were saying. Your question is not clear at all, and thus a response like the one jbondguy007 gave was really the only kind of response that you could have expected from it. I'm still not 100% clear on what you're actually after, even though I read what you posted below.

"and you cannot do anything outside of waiting patiently to increase your number of points. "

I somehow lost a lot of "entered" history when the site changed, and now I've decided to waste more time here, but I'm really new to the site as it is, despite my registration date.

It used to be different, how come we don't get points from giveaways anymore? And why are the CV values so freakin' low? I mean, I have no problem posting dozens of bundled games which I otherwise wouldn't use, but why would I get 1.50 CV for a 10P game? They used to give a lot more for the first couple giveaways. Now there's no real incentive for new people to make more than one give away, unless I'm missing something about the level system.

It's more lenient in the long run. You can very slowly rise in level by giving away nothing but bundle games, while in SGv1 you were capped at 30$ until you gave away a non-bundle game, and even then that was just raising the cap itself.

"and even then that was just raising the cap itself."

That explains it quite a bit actually. Although I would rather people need to frontload more games, that makes sense in the long run. Thanks for the lesson.

Damn, just search the forum. I can bet there are tens of threads about that (one or two of them was even live recently), and in most of them there are people who calmly explained everything.

Also, if you would (if you will?) stick around the forum you would see that there are many reasons to make more than one give away.

CV used to stop at $30.00 for bundle games, so there was no incentive to continue giving them away. Now you can reach any CV level by only giving away bundle games, but it'll take longer because they only give 15% of their full price. Most bundle games are acquired for less than 15% of their full price anyway, so it's not really a problem.

You are missing that 'new people' can give away bundle leftovers and finally get past the 'magical' 30$ CV mark that existed in the old system. The old system would motivate people to only give away games exactly up to that point and not more. Gaining 15% per bundled game is still quite a bit. The current Monday bundle for example costs 2$ and gives you 7.50$ CV.

To clarify: there's two issues here, you don't get any extra chances by gaining points from your own giveaways, and the CV level is abysmal.

I don't remember if you got points for your own giveaways in SGv1, but the ratio of points generated from giveaways was so low (5% of value, so for example you would get 1P from a 20$ GA) that it made almost no difference anyway.

These "issues" accidentally are not a problem to the rest of us. It seems you are in the minority, so...
Unfortunately for you, I don't think ranting about it will do any good. The community here mostly agreed on how the system should work (especially during the SGv2 beta).

Jumping on someone for not understanding these forums (within minutes of writing their first post) isn't something I'd say is critically acclaimed, just sort of questionable. I wasn't ranting either, I said up front I was fine with how things are, and I came here to ask why it wasn't like it used to be. Sorry to molest your sensitive ego and force you to reply with your community-backed correction to my error.

The "extra chances" you get are from having a higher CV and as such being able to enter giveaways for higher levels only.

As for the CV being abysmal, we all have the same system and it's been discussed many times, this is how it was decided. The less bundled games you giveaway the faster you may rise but in the end giving away be done because you want to giveaway not to level up.

Edit: typing on phone too slow :/

extra chances by gaining points from your own giveaways

This was not how it used to work though, was it? You did not get a bunch of points when one of your GAs ended, you just ended up getting points naturally just like you do now. And the more GAs people make, the more points are being generated for everyone.

and the CV level is abysmal.

How so? You can finally get higher levels through bundled games, thus you have an incentive to give away more than just $30 in bundled games. It's not as much as non-bundled games, but it adds up. If they did not have a "lower CV for bundled games" system in place, then you would see more people trying to game the system by just buying a whole lot of bundled in order to get to level 10.

I am on steamgift for a year too. I have almost lvl 5 and a lot of my GAs are bundled games.
I heard somewhere that on oldest version of SG you got 1p for each new GA (so 5% is still more but I'm not sure of this information).

So let's life roll and a little advice - don't start with insults for every even a little ironic comment.
