Not buying right away, because the original DayZ mod was extremely overhyped, I bought ARMA just to play DayZ and found it very buggy with tons of glitches. I'm not a huge fan of the ARMA engine overall, so many glitches, stability issues, etc. Just to get into a server required me to jump over hoops due to various issues.

Perhaps when it goes on sale for under $10 I might consider this.

If there is a generous discount, I'll consider it. For now, $30 is ridiculous for an alpha. The purpose of early access is to get a good deal, make it an actual investment. This is ridiculous.

Agree. 15 would've been an instant purchase for me. 30 not so much.

Actually, the purpose of early access is not "to give good deal". It's simply getting cheap labor to find bugs and pay them in giving them chance to find bugs (as opposed to paying real betatesters some serious money).
Yes, some developers think "you help us make game better, so you can buy it cheaper", but it looks like it's story long gone, as gamers proven time after time they are more then willing to pay more for shittier version only because they can brag "I played it and was killed by falling into ground and you didn't".

Actually, ""you help us make game better, so you can buy it cheaper" is still true. The game will be more expensive when it goes to Beta, and even more expensive when it releases. Buying it now is the better choice.

Comment has been collapsed.

I was making more general point (mostly aimed at kickstarter, where you pay additional $$$ for alpha/beta access).

Do you have some source? While Bohemia is known for making "buy early, pay less" promos, they could go other way this time - get money from fans, and after a year(s) of polishing release it cheaper to get more money from people who wanted it, but thought it's not worth that kind of money.

Well I think the assumption is that it will follow a similar pricing model to what they did with Arma 3.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

actually due to the success of nether. The price was set. Due to the fact Dayz broke all records on steam sales of early access, they were right. You can only charge what people will pay. . Daen is now a hero not a fool. Only a fool would charge less then they can make/ as is only a fool would pay more then they have to. But in business it is a crime to charge less. . . Thus, only fools are those claiming Dean is charging too much, but if they don't pay what they feel is wrong then they win. Thus only person losing out is no one. Unless you pay for the game when you feel is it too much. Or those who don't pay now and get charge more later.

You're so warped to think the way they want to. Such a shame that you allow business to decide what is fair to charge for an unfinished game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

no, what people are willing to pay decides that. nether isn't a finished game. I paid less for starbound but only half, and more for Star Citizen. the same price for nether . . . all unfinished games. I also paid the same or arma 3.

Comment has been collapsed.

No, the purpose is to get a better deal. Period. Why would people pay full price for a buggy piece of shit? Exactly, nobody will. There is plenty of morons that will fall for the hype and pay the full $30, but they are royally fucked if they raise the price later because there is too many indie games out there that are cheaper while the other more expensive titles have the support to make their game worth the value. This game is going into awkward territory for they took a year to make what they are showing now, I cannot expect them to make the game worth $60 like they are targeting and it sure as hell isn't worth the $30 now.

Err, Planetary Annihilation or Wastelands 2 wants to talk to you.

(In case you don't know: both have much more expensive alpha/beta access than game will cost when it's finished - and people bought it, just to be able to find bugs).

But it is a good deal! This is the cheapest the game will be for a long time! This price is only when on alpha. It will increase when it gets one Beta and even more when it officially releases!

I absolutely hated DayZ with ARMA, because the controls were shit, laggy, plenty of bugs, boring scenery, backpack/inventory was a bitch, etc.

If it plays the same I'm not following the hype.

Meh. Still not quite interested, I'm not liking the whole third person tedious zombie survival crap that's going on recently.

Maybe if I watch some gameplay with glowing reviews I might.

Same as the price of ARMA 3?

June: 35 € (beta)
September: 45 € (release)
November: 33.74 € (25% off)

which is what you were told when you bought it. Dean said many times. . . the game isn't optimized well but we will release it due to the high demand of people saying I'm cheating them if I don't put it out within the week.

They're cheating everyone now for charging so much damn money.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

not really based on the price of nether. . . they are charging just right. Or does WarZ 2.0 deserve to charge more then DayZ?

Edit though Dean did say 14.00 before nether I do understand people's dislike for the price.

What does WarZ have to do with what DayZ is doing? WarZ is the definition of ripping off the consumer base. So yes, WarZ SHOULD cost more than DayZ.

Fanboys will pay anything for the latest bowl of shit, and it looks like Rocket is going to make a fortune on this game. Personally, I'll be waiting to try Standalone when it inevitably gets discounted 75% down the line.

Enjoy your overpriced, buggy, unfinished DayZ 1.5, suckers.

Actually it really is just a few things over the mod of Day Z.

I'll watch it for a sale, I'd rather not support the project till they show a lot more improvement over the mod.

On the store page there are several places where they have written warnings about the state of the game, even using Caps.
If people buy the game they are warned, if they dident look at the store page before they bought it. It is their own problem.

Pretty much this. Why anybody would want to pay $30 for an alpha project that is almost a carbon-copy of the free mod that preceded it, I'll never understand. Fanboys will be fanboys I guess.

Probobly because they like the game, and want to help support the continued development. Makes much more sense than these kickstarter campaigns where you dont even have a guarantee that you will get the game.

I bought Arma eye eye and the dlc to play Dayz (in a sale so it was cheap enough to justify) and didn't really like it so I doubt I'll buy this, don't understand the discount argument, I went into it knowing full well I would have to pay full price again for the standalone if I liked the game. I do agree though that it would have been a good move for the company to offer a discount of even just a few quid, it would have generated a lot of positive feedback for them which would have only helped in the long run.

Probably won't get it until it gets 75%, so about a year. Got Arma to play the original mod and was kind of dissapointed. The atmosphere was great and I loved sneaking around trying to reach something in a town, but the fighting was terrible, mainly the melee. Zombies randomly appearing around me, having totally random hitboxes and stuff like that make the game suck for me. Also having a trouble with working with the inventory, but that might be just me.

In a year it'll be a beta and more expensive :p

I wouldn't expect a 75% the first 2 years.

Seems a bit too pricy to me. Then again I still have not played the mod version. I am interested in it, but not enough to buy it for 30+ USD.

Might get on a sale if that happens. Until then.. I will prob be playing other games I have and/or buying other games :P ( as an example.. I am honestly really looking forward to Dying Light. )

Comment has been collapsed.

We estimate that reaching Beta version with all key features present will take more than one year from current stage.

So you have over a year of the buggy alpha build to enjoy, then god knows how long it will stay in beta, before finally getting released, at which point there will probably be a better game out.

Get off the hype train.

Everyone hoping to get cheaper prices.

It only increases in price as time goes on, its gonna follow the Minecraft business model of when it released.

So have fun spending the same total as the total we spent today if there is a discount.

And it is playable, just people that can't play it have shitty machines. Same thing happened to Arma 2 dayz mod.

I've only crashed once out of 3 hours.
