Why should it? You still have to pay a lot to get it.

Because you are still paying to receive a bunch of other games, so isn't that, by definition, a bundle?

By that definition this is a bundle too

You have to pay $1 for the first 4 games, with your logic, that's no longer pay what you want...

No you don't, you can pay $0.01 and get the setup file. You only have to pay more to get Steam keys, which they are far from obliged to give you.

It is still pay what you want kind of, they simply tell you that you need to pay at least $25 to unlock a game, you can pay as much as you want beyond that.

No you can't These games don't have DRM free versions

I dont think you get anything if you pay less than $1, since these games only have Steam versions. Regardless, I dont know why you are addressing me, since I was posting because I thought the logic was absurd.

You dont you just get the drm free soundtracks if you pay less then a dollar I tried to use all of the money left on my card which turns out its not much, which sucks becuase I wanted the bundle but anyways all it gave me was the soundtracks.

I guess I'll call my favourite bar pay what you want too, since I sometimes give a tip to the owner (it's a small bar, it's just him).

If you don't like my example, then take the 2nd tier. You have to pay above ~$5 to get those games, just like you have to pay above $25 to get Riptide. Why is one not pay what you want, but the other pay what you want?

The more accurate term is "pay what you want with minimum" rather than directly pwyw.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I do get your example, it's just that I don't really consider pay what you want an accurate term anymore.
That's only a minor issue I have, though. I guess you can call it nitpicking hehe. I'm not losing my sleep over it, but I'd say pay what you want with a minimum is no longer pay what you want, accurately.

"Bundle list" is just a name. Its purpose is to vastly reduce the CV of games that have cost nearly nothing. This doesn't meet that requirement.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

How does it not though? $25 for 10 games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you pay 1$ for tier1 (4 items), 5.06$ for tier2(+5 items) and 25$ for tier3(+1 item) => you pay 0.25$ for each tier1 game, 0.81$ for each tier2 game and 19.94$ for dead island - I see no point to "bundle-list" it.

Current Indie Royale, if not on bundle list would be ~$5.50 for $28 worth of CV, about 80% off. There are plenty of bundles that never get to that 95% cutoff point that Shobo talks about, and yet all of the IR games get added to the bundle list.

No, 95% and above gets added. Widely exploited just happens to be a generous side effect of being heavily discounted.

Non-bundle games must satisfy two criteria to be added:

  1. 95% off or more
  2. "exploitable"

CS:GO did not meet the second requirement, Galactic Civ did not meet the first requirement.

Not so much exploitable, but more if they are given in huge numbers... Like in hundreds.

Just Cause I think was over thousand copies...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You're taking the "bundle list" wording too literally. The list is not intended for every game included in every bundle, nor is it intended only for games included in a bundle. It is a list of games that were sold for very large discounts which are exploitable for CV, whether they were in a bundle or not.

As such, Riptide does not belong on the list because it costs you a little under $20 to buy it with that bundle. That is only 50% off normal price, which isn't nearly enough of a discount to warrant adding it to the list. The games on the list were typically sold for like 90% or more off normal price.

I think the only real problem here is that the list is labeled as a "bundled games list" when in reality that's not really what the list is, which is causing confusion.

Well said.

Just check the list before buying it, or don't worry about CV.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There is no set discount percentage that determines whether it gets put on the list or not, that is up to the people that run this website. I was just stating percentages to convey the concept of how the list is created.

I believe there have been bundles which had lower or similar discounts than if you bought in the Steam store on sale, and yet those games are on the bundle list.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There are always exceptions, or things that were missed. Since games are put on the list manually it's down to whether the people that run this site know about the discount, AND if they decide that it warrants having the game added to the list. It's not like "if any game is discounted by X percent it is automatically added to the list".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's the huge problem I have. There's no consistency or rules in place for adding games to the list. Riptide wasn't added because it isn't really discounted. Well, I can think of other examples in which games were added to the bundle list even though they also weren't really discounted.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It might be because of DRM-free copies.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Last time I checked, you couldn't give away DRM free copies of games on sg...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But you can download DRM-free copies and give away the keys.I just take your IR example. If you apply the 80% discount twice, then the game will be discounted to 96%.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Desura and DRM free copies have nothing to do with CV or Steamgifts and it doesnt make sense to include them. We are talking about discounts for Steam copies and nothing else.

BTW, your math is incorrect. Assume the bundle is worth $30 and sells for 80% off at $6. Double the worth of the bundle because of the DRM free copies to get $60. That's 90% off, still not at the 95% cutoff mark that Shobo set.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hopefully not, you only get like less than 40% off it. Anyone giving it away is being very generous.
It is cheaper to buy out of bundle, I am sure.

Comment has been collapsed.

Having played the first Dead Island and seen the far less than flattering reviews of Riptide I am completely perplexed as to why they believe it's reasonable to charge $25 for it.

I'll probably get it to play with my friends when they stop charging stupid prices for crap games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think you are not really aware of how a market works. Tip, it's not made to tailor your likings.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Au contraire, mon ami, I'm more than aware, which is exactly why I can't fathom how they think a sequel to a very average game that has received far worse reviews than its predecessor warrants AAA game pricing.

And yes I'm well aware that $25 is less than the RRP but it's still far too much.

Game developers either need to stop charging stupid prices for crap games or wake up and start making good games. In a world where they can charge that much for Dead Island: Riptide and people actually buy it we really need to question what we are doing as gamers when we buy games like this.

I'm not surprised to see after looking on your profile that you don't have Dead Island, if you did you might've had an idea what I was talking about.

Permalink

What did you expect if people buying CoD for way more money and it's a million times worse that Dead Island which is pretty average i agree with that. I assume they just like the game and willing to pay that price.

Reviews mean very little since they are just opinions of those people. Just like this is an opinion of yours.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Reviews actually count for a lot, they are invariably written by experienced gamers/journalists who write in respected publications that often reach tens or even hundreds of thousands of readers.

But never mind what I or a handful of reviewers say, how about the user score on Metacritic?

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/dead-island-riptide

5.7. That's how the people who game for recreation and nothing else see this game. Painfully average.

Permalink

Again, opinions. No different from thinking that someone is ugly or beautiful.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So you think you've invalidated my argument that Dead Island: Riptide is a crap game that doesn't warrant a pricing of $25 merely by pointing out that the fact that most people think it is indeed crap are just 'opinions'?

Why did you even let me start debating you when you knew you had such a flimsy argument?

The price is made according to the demand, not according to the quality.Simple economics.

Demand is not the only thing that dictates prices, that would be simplifying it too much.

If the game makes profit, the price is warranted. Do you have proof that it isn't making profit?

I don't think Brutal Legend or Broken Age were added, so Dead Island Riptide will most likely not be added either. I'm surprised they added the individual games, as they didn't with the Double Fine, THQ, etc.

There is absolutely no rhyme or rhythm anymore!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Are you waiting for an answer other than no?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you like the games and want to give them away so that other people will play them, why care whether it gets you any CV at all? People only kick up a stink about CV if they're gifting for personal gain which isn't the reason for SG.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you have a bundle list, you have to be consistent. I couldn't care less about CV, but if you make up some sort of rule, you better flesh it out and actually have some sort of addition criteria, not just flop around randomly deciding what gets added to the list and not.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So if you don't care about CV, where's the problem? Give games (or not). Be happy. This isn't a democracy, it's a benevolent dictatorship.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I care about rule consistency.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So you'd be OK if it were renamed from "bundle list" to "List of games that we decided were showing up on SteamGifts in too large a volume due to being too cheap or having been exploited (stolen, or freely available in large quantities, or keygen'ed) and so are not allowed to be given away for full value, completely up to the discretion of the Administrator of the site."?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, I don't care what the list is named. I think you're confusing me with that other person a couple of weeks back that was complaining about "bundle" list. I care about consistency. If you put all games x on a list, but then game y, which fits the mold of x is not on the list, there is no consistency. "Completely up to the discretion of the Administrator of the site" is by default implying inconsistency, hence I will always have a problem until there are set rules in place as to what goes on or not on the list.

This is also why I really hate the "no calling out" rule. It's quite subjective as to what people consider as "calling out"

It was only 37% off, no reason to add it to the bundle list. You might as well ask for Prison Architect to be on the list, after all, it was in a bundle and you only to pay $19.99 compared to it's normal price of $29.99!

Putting in a bundle list would mean you should also put ALL publisher packs on Steam on the list, I mean your paying less then what the things in it are worth and they're in a bundle.
