Do you like Steam Guard?
I don't mind Steamguard, and if it prevents some scams, good for them.
But the funniest was when I wanted to use the Steam app on my phone which was mysteriously logged off and it asked for the SteamGuard code, which only shows on my Steam app.

No, I just made it send me a recovery email and got my account back. Next time it happened (once recently) it was odd again because I was technically logged off but I could still see my code on the phone. At least no going through multiple hoops.

it's not like anyone needed an app like this. email confirmation was totally fine. guess they just wanted to move a little towards the mobile market and grab a lot of user data along the way.

It is annoying.
But deactivating it ruins the point of it, and makes it even more bothersome.
Generate and keep some of the one-time use backup codes on hand instead (and keep them very safe).
(Also, you need a poll option: I think it's necessary, but I don't like it.)
[post-reply-edit] Aha, I see the other poster's recommendation now! Sorry to duplicate that -- so many other posts here just repeatedly recommending the desktop apps! [/post-reply-edit]

hi, may i have a question: how can you switch devices without getting any cooldown? cuz i believe you have to deauthenticate the old device before you could authenticate a new one, but that way you cant generate the auth code needed to login on the new device; catch 22.
in case of device swap i switch to email auth temporarily until i log in on the new device, then switch back to mobile auth (log in first time with the code i got in email; this way i get only 7 days cooldown instead of 15). the only thing i could imagine to work would be those pre-generated backup codes: generate a batch, deauthenticate the old rig, then log in on the new device with one of those backups, but i never had the trust try this out tbh.
anyways, thx in advance for the answer! :]

ah ok, so in english "ghosting" the stuff to the new device. thats way too much tinker for me, since im not into android devices at all, thanks for the answer though. the pre-generated backup codes dont work on the new device then? cuz that would seem the easiest and most simple way to migrate imo, without rooting devices and turning off/swithcing authentication temporarily.

yes ghosting is the pc equivalent, you did grasp what that was/meant xD.
the pre-generated backup codes are basically permanent static pre-authorized steamguard codes in case of emergency. they won't help activate a new steamguard authorized app unfortunately. but they are in case you lose your authorized device, you can login on a pc with one of those backup codes to deauthorize the lost device and activate a new one. the cooldown will still apply due to the new activation though.
i agree though they should add an export option to the app though to export your authorization, that would make things easier for people who are deliberately changing their authorized device instead of losing it.
edit: changed permanent to static.. they are a one-time use only codes (10x of them), so not really that permanent.

I hate that I need to login every day on my browser on my own PC.

apparently not
log in would be easy if I didn't need to enter the stupid guard code also

That would be hell to me... I tend to enter steam only by the client to prevent the mobile authenticator code bother... but, well, the guard code from the e-mail or phone message is necessary, as anyone who has your account information could enter your account and waste your wallet away...

are you by chance using "[Userscript] SteamGifts Steam Ratings"??
that script caused me to have to login everyday instead of keeping me logged in. it typically wouldn't even last 1hour before i had to relog, but as soon as i removed that script the login sticks once again and it's back to only logging in once a month or so.

I'm wondering stuff about this, too. I have downloaded and installed Steam on my Android "smart"-phone,2 months ago, but still it takes 15 days if I want to make a trade... What do I need to do to prove I am not a terrorist?
*Edit: Ok, quit being from Sweden, cause we all know something very bad happened here friday night! lol

Use Steam Desktop Authenticator. It's completely portable. You can save a configured copy on a flash drive or on the cloud, and access them whenever. It's far superior than the smartphone versions since you don't have to wait when you change your phone or lost it and have to reinstall the app. It also have the added benefit of having the ability to auto confirm trades. Very useful when you are selling many cards, for example.

I dont know if someone else already mentioned this, but you can use WinAuth instead of the official mobile version. It's a desktop application that does exactly what the mobile version does, so you can sell them and trade them instantly. It also supports other stuff like battle.net and so on. Been using it ever since they made it a requirement to sell cards and dont have any complaints.
You can get it here: https://winauth.com/

can't you use backup codes for that kind of situations?

I don't have an android or iOS phone, so I must wait long time to see my itens selling in the market. I downloaded an Android Emulator, so I could have SteamGuard and sell the itens faster.
BUT
Sometimes I'm not at home and need to login on Steam to accept a gift, a friend or anything like that, and i remotely deactivate SteamGuard.
AND
After that, I need to wait like 15 FREAKING DAYS to use the market again, even if I reactivate the SteamGuard again before! This annoys me so much, 'cause I have like hundreds of cards now, and can only sell them after February 28! Why Steam make me suffer like this?
The point is: 15 days is ridiculous. 7 days would be fine to recover an account and stuff, but HALF A MONTH is annoying, yes... I like the security stuff, but the downsides when you face then are a reaaaal bother.
