It makes contributors happy to see comments on their giveaways and stuff. Many of the comments are just plain fake Thanks.. but theres still a few amazing people who actually put some effort into the comments or have conersations with other people about the game, or maybe even what they ate today.

My Entry to Comment ratio isnt good.. (1,546:37) but atleast it isnt filled with fake Thanks..

So maybe next time when you enter a giveaway, think twice before using the AT Script...

Anyway.. how are you guys and girls ? ^u^

I just woke up (its 7 here) :D

Personally I write thanks when it's a game that I really want, auto-script is a no-no.

I always type my "Thank you" comments and I vary them depending on how happy I'm feeling and how much I appreciate the giveaway. Variations include ty, Thanks, Thanks!, Thank you, Thank you!, Nice, Nice!, Great, Great!, Excellent, Excellent!, Superb, Superb! and some others I can't remember. If I'm in a hurry or very bored I'll just leave a ty. If the gifter asked for something in the description, I'll almost always respond.

I don't hate it (but I also don't love it) when people spam "thanks" on giveaways but it should at least be a full "Thanks!" or "Thank you!" but to use a script is just pathetic and doesn't show any gratitude to do so, they just want to get their comments count up.

BTW look at the comments of a thanks addon on userscripts.org.

Believe it or not, I put in the effort to say "Thanks" myself. Sometimes, I add a season's greetings like "Merry Christmas". This is because I want to let the contributor know that I'm thankful for his/her giveaway.

True. However, even a typed „thanks“ isn't that much more worth in my opinion. Either put some time into your comment to really show your appreciation or just say nothing, I'll assume you're grateful anyway.

Once given the gift a thank you note is in order of course. Once again, put some time and effort into it.

Got some junk food today. Said "thanks" to the guy when he passed me my pepperoni and mushroom deep crust pizza.

At the time, I was hoping this conveyed how ungrateful I was, and how unimpressed I was with his half-arsed efforts. Normally I say nothing at all, just greeting the staff member handing me my pizza with a stony silence, but I was having a bad day.

Now I feel guilty ;__;

What should I do?

I think this whole situation is much simpler in real life. Everything on the internet is exaggerated. Mildly funny things get a LOL or ROFL in return, even if the reader didn't even chuckle.
In person you see gratefulness and as such it's much harder to accept. Still, if you say „thanks“ but don't mean it, people will pick up on this.

Somehow this doesn't seem to come out right.

No, I think you came across clearly enough. I've seen people at public computers, chatting with their friends online, using 'LOL' as if it's a form of punctuation, while their faces look like they're reading the obituaries.

I take the time each and every time to type every single letter personally when I type "thanks." Besides how many of us as kids had it drilled into our heads that even if grandma gives you the same old fruitcake you are allergic to every year for Christmas that you should still say thanks?

Edit* Also we as gifters decided of our own free will to give, so we need to suck it up or make private or group giveaways. If people shouldn't be in it for the contributor value, then they shouldn't be in it for the thanks. Just another double standard.

My ratio is 1300:300 and I don't use that kind of scripts :) And in my giveaways I like to see somthing like that: "Very cool, Thanks for this gift <my nick here>." not only "thanks" or the worst "thx" :)

I don't think i've ever commented on a giveaway outside of to complain about if they're fake. People give away things to be nice- i'll only really say thanks if I win but that's because otherwise it sounds sarcastic or copy pasted like hell.

sometimes i comment on giveaways on games i already have or give aways i dont want to enter because i think the game is interesting and people should try it out

Same. If I find a giveaway for a really good game I'll sometimes make a comment like "Thanks for the giveaway, (Insert SG User Name). I love seeing games like this gifted here because of X reason. I know how much I've enjoyed my copy of this, and I hope the winner does too. Good luck, everyone!"

I'm pretty sure the gifter appreciates a well thought out comment, and the people who're thinking about entering for it probably enjoy reading a few things about a title before they spend their points on an entry for it.

I used to write at every giveaway something else. A thanks with a comment. Sure, some stuff would be similar. After all, there is just so much you can comment about the same game 20+ times or when there is no description. But I never and still don't copy paste.

But it did take up a lot of time. And with topics about how contributors prefered only being thanked by the winners and did not really care for any thank you's, I kind of strted to loose my interest in bothering to comment and thank at every giveaway.

So now I only do it with some giveaways and only if they have a description. Why would I put effort in thanking and commenting at every giveaway if hardly anyone does it and contributors are blasé to it? Also, it does feel liberating when I don't have to comment on every 10+ giveaways I enter whenever I am active on Steamgifts.
