For some reason, a fair few people, both on the forum and on Steam chat have taken to attacking me regarding giving away the keys. Particularly on Steam, some people have threatened to 'find me' and 'take action' if they are not given 50 keys or some garbage. Others have said 'I am reporting you to the police for selling stolen keys', and others have said on Steam 'you are a dickhead, why give away stolen keys you thief, you are only doing it for points'. (Obviously they have no idea how the point system works - if I was doing that, I'd make 25 individual giveaways.

It's pretty clear that the RUSE keys came from the 100% discount that the Ubisoft Australia store applied back in March. I've never claimed to have purchase them, and in fact, if you look at my original giveaway you will see I posted a screenshot where it says the total price of the keys was $0.00.

The sole and pure reason I am running these giveaways is so I don't just have the keys sitting there dormant doing nothing. Games are there to be played, and if I can give away 277 games to people then the world is just that little bit better.

If I was to publish the entire RUSE key list to Reddit or Facepunch like some people have suggested I should do, multiple people would try to activate the same key, probably getting banned in the process. Or someone would sell the key list, or at the very least attempt to.

I could've sold these keys for ~$20/pop on eBay, netting myself $5540 in the process. But I don't need the money, so I didn't. Nor would I expect recipients of the keys to sell them either. That's immoral.

I'm not doing this for the praise like fishpen0 suggested. Whilst it is appreciated, the thanks should be directed at those who purchased keys and are very generously donating them, or those who are giving away keys in a bundle they purchased. These are the truly generous people.

So we are all clear, this is the email I received from Ubisoft:

TO OUR UBISHOP CUSTOMERS

Last week, the Australian Ubishop site was showing that nearly all of its games were available for a 100% discount. This was obviously a systems error that has now been fixed.

As you were quick enough to act on this error, we would like to advise that Ubisoft will honour this sale at the full discount. We hope that you enjoy the games, and invite you to visit our website again to view our upcoming PC lineup, and our regular promotions. Admittedly, they probably won’t be quite as generous as the one you have just taken advantage of...

Best regards,
The Ubishop team

Finally, thanks to the mods. CJ, Cult and RJ (if I missed other mods, owners, I'm sorry :P). They are the true heroes here. They have built up a community of almost 5000 people in such a short time, and have improved the lives of so many by enabling gifts to be received easily. They should be thanked immensely.

I see you took my sarcasm well. I had just been a bit miffed at you for suggesting you were elevated above others because you were giving the keys away instead of selling them; In the end you still exploited a system. Beyond that I have no reason to dislike you and I hope you stop getting harassed. The keys are legit and you helped out the community of the site, something I had not been aware of in the original post you responded to. The real amazing people are the ones over at Ubisoft who decided to honor the potential thousands of dollars in lost* sales.

* I am not going to pretend that all of the keys they lost would have been sold otherwise. That is a logical fallacy of the modern entertainment industry. However, they probably lost a pretty penny none the less.

You get 277 game keys for free, naturally some people will hate your guts ^_^

Very noble of you to give them away here though, its because of people like you that sites like this can exist.

Most people in the world are uninformed and ignorant. They figure that you're giving away 277 keys and no one in their right mind has 277 keys to give away, so they assume that there's some catch like they're illegal or stolen. It's a sad truth that the uninformed world is too lazy to become informed. Anyone who actually visits the forums would actually know that you got these keys legally.

Pretty epic that you took 277 keys. Why 277? Why not over 9000? XD

Ubisoft honored the sale price of $0.00, so their clearly legitimate keys, one can debate the ethics involved but legally it's pretty clear.
I doubt anyone would contact the police but I'd be greatly amused to hear the conversation if they did.
Really, what are they going to say... the publisher of the game doesn't have the right to sell their own game for whatever price they determine (in this case $0?).

If such arguments actually worked with the police then I would be the owner of a brand new car of which I paid nothing.
Sadly it doesn't quite work that way.

I suppose one could legitimately question your ethics in taking hundreds of keys for free, but given that you could likely sell them on EBay and instead choose to freely give them away it's tough to be all that harsh.

haha same here: couldn't win anything either... I do feel bad for spoonalious though and also admire him/her for his/her courage... putting myself in that position, if I had started receiving messages like that, I probably would have just stopped the giveaways. Thanks spoonalious!

Unless, of course, you're talking about the guy from San Andreas. His name is CJ.

spoonalious is a great and awesome person, i have respect for him. Thanks for this great giveaway.

I would have done the same as you if i got keys due a bug from a website.

Also tbh try to be nice to each other since we all live in a horrible world, a small change can make the difference.

spoonalious is one of the best guys Ever! Can’t believe people were giving shit to you man, they are just idiots - don’t assume use Facts first if you are going to accuse someone. He clearly showed that Ubisoft had said they were going to honour giving away the items for free, so it has been done legally.
