How long and what system run on your main computer without beign reinstalled?
Well you can do gaming on your Linux based TV OS so that must mean something is moving in that regard.

I'm genuinely curious, why would you reinstall your OS if you don't have to? I always hate having to set up a new computer to my preference, and this seems to me like doing that repeatedly and putting yourself through a bunch of unnecessary hassle...?

There's not a huge amount I have to set up, games and such are all on separate drives, documents are in Dropbox, and all my browser stuff is synced with Chrome. I just have to export the settings for various programs like MusicBee but that just takes 5 minutes. I use Gamesave Manager to do a backup of all the games before and then restore them after, and I do an image of the "old" OS before installing the new one so that I can go back to it if I discover there's some vital thing left on it that I need.
I guess I just like the feeling of a nice clean OS, helps me declutter and all that. Like I said I usually wait longer, but this time I'm doing it sooner because I managed to get a copy of Windows 10 Pro from work and Windows' habit of restarting in the middle of the night to install updates and closing everything I had open has been driving me up the wall. If I hadn't got that I wouldn't reinstall until closer to September.
Edit: Eventually, when I actually have some money to my name (and time) I plan on moving to a system with a single rack-mounted PC in another room running VMs, and sending the video output via ethernet to wherever in the house the screen is. That's a long time away though

Thanks for explaining! I'm admittedly still a little baffled (because I tend to tweak my OS into submission and it takes months because something new/previously forgotten is always popping up and that's why I hate doing it so much), but I guess I can understand why some people would prefer the "new" feeling more than the "worn-in" feeling. I kind of get swept up in it too when I get a new computer and it's all shiny and fast, it just doesn't last long for me until I get frustrated with things it's doing and I have to fix them. XD

Haha yeah I get you, there are of course a bunch of tweaks which I like to do to the PC as well but a good few of them are just registry hacks or can be done with .bat files so I just keep all those in a folder and run them all. Otherwise if I've forgotten where a setting is I can usually turn to Google, but again recently I've just been keeping a text file with reminders about what the path was or whatever instead since it's quicker than looking online.
The most annoying part is probably having to sign into everything again

Just disable the Windows Update service.
You can just enable it manually when you're ready to search for updates, then disable it again.

Not stop the service; disable it permanently. Windows+R, services.msc, Windows Update, Disable. Apply.
Maybe even Manual is sufficient, though I just disable it completely and renable (and start) at my convenience for a few moments just to check, then (stop/)disable again. I don't even close that window..

They prevented you from using normal options, but you can still stop the service, which is fine. Just try to remember to check manually.
I usually check before a restart. Checked today--hadn't checked in a week. That's usually been about the longest before I've remembered.
I dunno how I ended up on your whitelist. You musta misclicked ^_^

January 2016, Win 7.
Only because I installed win 10, had a shitload of problems and reinstalled win 7 again. Otherwise my win 7 would be running for about 6 years.

I didn't know that command.
Well, I haven't rebooted since... last September.

It is on laptop, and no reboot doesn't mean no hibernate/powersaving mode :-)

Windows 10, last reinstall was two months ago.
Usually I make a clean install once a year.

Last reinstall was moving to SSD and upgrading to win 10 at the same time. Not sure of exact date and not currently in front of computer to find out.

I run a mix of Windows 7 and Linux. I only reinstall when something gets screwed up really bad. My desktop is at a little bit over 1 year right now, my laptop at 1 and a half but it really really needs a reinstall, that poor thing was abused as hell :(

Just got a new SSD so I just reformatted, my last system reformat before this one was about four to five years ago.
Generally it's smart to reformat every year, especially if you're constantly uninstalling and installing applications from all the crap they leave behind, there are 3rd party programs that will help but there just isn't anything like doing a fresh install.
