I have a retail copy. Tried entering the key on my origin account and it came back invalid, just got done talking to support and was given a key for The Sims 2 Double Deluxe, in a few days I will be upgraded to the Ultimate Collection :D EA's customer support was actually helpful. Only downside was the 40 minute wait time for chat support.

Star Wars teaches us differently...when you think things can't get any worse, they invariably, and usually disastrously do! Like, that helpful cave you flew in on that asteroid to avoid the Imperial fighters turning out to be a giant space worm.

Yeah but you have to admit this is a pretty good thing even by other companies standards

Yeah, this is really good. They need the goodwill, and hopefully, they'll notice it pays, and continue. They've got big chances to become a great company, but there's still a long way there.

Great. Once my intetnet is back, I'll chat to Origin support. Got a disc somewhere.

Did you folks all do this via phone or their chat support service? My sister has Sims 2 on disc and is obsessed with the series, so if we can get hers set up on Origin, that'd be great.

Too bad I don't have it. :( By the way, would they know if the key I used has been redeemed?

I wondered that myself. They asked why i contacted them, i said because i was told i needed to contact them to add my retail key to my origin account, he said "ok i can help you with that" Didn't ask for my retail key, but i gave it to him anyway. Not sure if they put it on sort of list or something, or verified if it was valid.

So you're asking if you can steal a copy basically?

They check. At least they should. Humans are capable of doing foolish things though.

I'd have to look, but I'm pretty sure the Sims 2 I have is the Double Deluxe one so this doesn't do me anything.

Even still, this is pretty cool of them.

I just contacted origin online support, gave them my key for physical sims 2 (original from when it came out) and they added the ultimate edition to my account, I don't see why double deluxe would be any different.

Heh, I actually just misread the thread and thought they would upgrade just to the double deluxe. I probably won't do it anyway, it's been years since I've even thought about playing the Sims.

Despite if the version, if you want it on your Origin account they will add you to it. After some days they will upgrade to the ultimate version.

I was thinking it would have made more sense for them to do that instead of making their support deal with all these keys.

Almost convinced myself I didn't actually own a copy of Sims 2 until I finally found it in my pile of old games lol. A pretty great deal for me since I grabbed the game used a year ago and hadn't played it yet because I wanted to buy some expansions first. Support was surprisingly easy to deal with via the live chat. I just had to wait ~30 minutes first due to all the other people redeeming Sims 2 keys =p

Just go to EA Support page. There should be an option for live chat there. Note you have to change the country to USA for the option to appear. I think that option is not available in Europe at least not in my country.

Just great, website is working bad again, didn't post my message. What I said is, for every step forward EA makes, they then make 3 steps back. It's a matter of time before they fuck up big time again, wait and see, mark my words.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to try this with my retail copy too.

(I'll try to remember to do it at home, and hope I can find the game.)

Edit: Had a bit of a problem because for some reason my security question was in Chinese. Got that sorted out and activated login verification. The code I got was for the ultimate collection.

The Ultimate edition I assume is just all the expansion packs. You can already pirate that.

I contacted EA about adding my copy of The Sims 2 Deluxe (not Double Deluxe) which I purchased back in 2008. I still even had the receipt! They gave me a new key, as my old one said "invalid", and it was for the Ultimate Edition. Almost 12 GB later I have it all. Mods still seem to work for the most part too.

A lot of people seem to have hate for EA but I have never had a problem with them. The support staff is very friendly and fast once you finally are able to chat with one of them. I don't know of any other company who would be so generous when retiring a classic game.

What did some of you say to support to receive the key? I have a copy of Sims 2 sitting in front of me.

I told them on the chat that I heard that EA was retiring The Sims 2 and giving away keys to the ultimate collection, and that I have a boxed copy. The support guy asked for the key, then asked for my security question (that was in Chinese for some reason, and made verification more complex, but it got sorted). Then he gave me a new key.

I gave him my key, but then made me register to a site called POGO or something, i found that odd. lol, then proceeded to give me a key.

I told them I have The Sims 2 CD (Retail) and want it on Origin. Gave them The Sims 2 serial key and about 5 add-on serial keys. After that they ask me the security question of your account and email me the keys.

I found my cd key from the original 4 disc release, contacted the support and they added the game straight away. It was really easy, and the support person was incrediblybfriendly. New-found respect for them.

Thanks for this.

I bought retail copies of The Sims 2, University, Nightlife and Open for Business back in the day. No longer had the actual discs (long story), but still had my old keys in a text file and they went ahead and hooked me up with the UC.
