Here's the deal: Let's say I have 300 points and I enter giveaways for 290 points, but then there is this awesome game that needs 15 points to enter. Here would it be cool if there was an option like "enter automatically when points available" so I don't have to spam refresh for those 5 points I'm missing and I can go back to work or do something else. And since giveaways have a really short life most of the time, this wouldn't make a great difference in user activity.
This would not cheat the system, so you can not say it's unfair to have it, can you?

What do you guys think?

Edit:
In my opinion you create a giveaway for people to enter. If I don't want certain people to enter, I make it group/private or add contribution. But I certainly don't want someone to have to get back to my giveaway just to enter it. I don't want to add pressure for the guy that would like to enter my giveaway of being there when the giveaway ends, I want the people that join to be happy they can win something.

But as it looks, you guys don't want that and I'm ok with that, it was just an idea of mine to improve. I didn't make this thread to say it has to be that way.
Peace

The less automation there is, the better odds there are for everyone that isn't a bot.

What would it make for a difference? You can't spend more points than you have.

Whenever you think about a new feature, you have to consider how it can be exploited. Regardless of your personal intentions, if you give people the ability to automatically enter giveaways, they will spend less time on the site and inevitably try to exploit it. Essentially, you're making it easier for people to leech, which I am completely against.

+1 on this.
This would simply make our friendly neighbourhood 12 year old simply entering ALL the giveaways and then staying chill.
Managing your points and what games you enter for is one of the things that makes s.gifts fair.
I already see too many people on the forums/chat that admit entering every possible giveaway that they can, even if they don't need/want those games.

Giveaways have a limited time to enter, if you don't get the points ever, you won't enter for it. If I have the points, I will spend them, what's the point making me check every 2 seconds to see that I have them or not.

Yes but one weak point in this idea can be that before going to sleep i simply enter something around 10-15 giveaways, and i can go to sleep knowing as soon i get the point i will enter.Which in real life would not happen because, well, i am asleep.
That and various other possible exploits.

If I'm a guy that sleeps more than others, I don't have the right to spend my points? Well, tell me why are the points regenerating so fast, if I don't have the right to spend them while I am sleeping?

Who says you don't have the right, you are the one choosing to sleep instead. Activeness is rewarded like it should be, instead of artificial systems

Use points before going to sleep. Do the same after waking up. Not seeing any good game - queue something to last over 24h (you can remove entry and get points back). Usually works pretty well.
If you are eally so concerned - make a script (or ask sb trusted) or wake up a bit earlier and go to sleep again.

It's not lazyness, it's convenience. What's the point of spaming refresh on the frontpage to check all the time?

Instead of spam refresh, just come to the forums and have a nice chat. When you notice you have more than the points you need.

Problem solved.

In any game, it would be like boting not doing the action yourself, more like an /autojoin if* in here.

I understand your point, but if you want the chance to win that freebie that much, the least is to spare the few it takes to be there and click the "enter" button.

Can't have less courtesy for the gifter than that if you ask me.

Another one of those 'done to death' ideas. That being an idea that keeps cropping up over and over again only to be shot down. SG is all about the fairness and it would just be unfair if you could queue up a list of entries when everyone else comes here in their own free time and earns their place in a giveaway.

So it's fair when I don't have time to check that I can't enter the giveaway while some other guy that has a free day can? Sorry, I don't think so.

Your personal schedule cannot change how the site works, because the site cannot revolve around you. We all live around the world, we all have different levels of availability, and giveaways can happen at any time for a wide variety of lengths. A big part of being involved in a giveaway is being here when it happens. Entering for your chance to win is your reward for checking into the site and spending the points that it takes. If you don't have the time to check at least once a day/week, then I hope you're getting paid for all that busy time.

Well, I am there when it happens, I just don't have the currency for it. And just because the giveaway ends in 5 hours, I have to make sure I am there to enter it? Tell me why points regenerate when I don't have the right to spend them because I'm not available for that specific moment.

You go to a shop and you want to buy a game but you don't have the money right now. You'll have it in 10 minutes (because it grows in your pocket) but not now. What do you do?

Heh, similar to using other giveaway to store extra points. But well, you don't have to wait for friend to come to you :)

  • Asking friend = removing entry.
  • Paying him back = making new extra entry.
  • Friend doesn't have money = you didn't make extra entries in past.

Because you can't spend them on everything at once, that's kind of the point of this whole site. Pick your piorities.

When you have some extra points (after waiting) queue some giveaways lasting for few weeks costing many points. When you need extra points - remove entry and when you get extra points - reenter. Solved :D

I don't think you've thought this through properly... If you miss out on entering a giveaway that cost 15P (for example), you'll have that 15P later when you come back unless you hit 300. I get why you might have an issue if that was the end of the story but it's not. You suggest this out of selfishness of wanting more entries and more chance to win but imagine if no one ever hit the 300 cap and everyone could spend their points right as it rolls in. Do you understand that this would significantly decrease your chance of winning the games that you DO enter? Do you understand that this site has many many people exactly like you who hit 300P cap and do not get to enter in many many giveaways for the same exact reason as your own? What if ALL those people entered all the giveaways you entered? That's right, you'd win LESS.

"you'll have that 15P later when you come back unless you hit 300"

Yup, and limit is virtual. Any giveaway lasting longer then time to next visit is extra pocket. Over 2 pages of giveaways lasting longer than week... that's pretty likely over 1000 points to store!!!

If I'm out of extra points - I simply leave giveaway in open tab till time is fine.

Automatically entering giveaways = heretical sorcery

Bad idea in automation. You enter few giveaways in this way. How should it behave?

  1. Join in order you join?
  2. Join in order of time before giveaway ends.
  3. How should it behave in conflict situation - not enough time to get enough points to join all giveaways? Enter: in order, as many as possible (order by points required), by wishlist (if there's match... but then what to do if there are few matches?), some other preference...
  4. How to reduce calculations required? Execute when any of 'subscribed' giveaway ends? Well, surely can't do when any nw points are available giveaway ends.

I think there are too many user-dependent preferences... making control panel for it to suit most users (easy to use and intuitive) would be pretty hard. Script (wget, curl anybody?) performing functions equivalent to requested features is about 20-30 lines of code and can be easily customised. Of course that's my opinion.

Just remove entry for a game you want the least out of the X amount of games u entered with the 290 points. And then you use your points to enter this awesome game

When I see a giveaway of game I mostly wanted and I got lack of points, I will remove my entry from a giveaway that's not my top interest or still have long time length.
