Yeah, been known for a few days. I'm guessing the upcoming systems won't require it because of likely having the ability to block used games.

Blocking used games will be publisher implented as it really doesn't benefit MS/Sony. This is more likely related to EAs plans to turn everything F2P/use microtransactions

Doesn't it? My understanding is that the manufacturers are paid royalties on each game sold...

Sony has already stated they won't support a used ban as it will only hurt consumers. Microsoft has been pretty tight lipped on their stance, from what I've seen. Dunno about Nintendo, though.

Yeah, and they also encourage everyone to buy a Wii U :)

And this is how PA replied to the news.

EA got butthurt when Wii rejected their offer of making the Wii U have an Origin interface. They then screwed over the Wii U and won't make games for it anymore just because of that.

While this is good, I am only worried about the bad it will bring when they reveal their next move.

They'll either put Origin on consoles or use whatever resale-blocking system MS and Sony created (they said next-gen what ability to block resales, they just won't force using it, leaving it in publishers' hands).

More micro payments, obviously. They'll monetize everything else.

could anyone please tell me what this "online pass" is and what games have this feature? The games I play are FPS, TPS, RTS and RPG. All games on my Origin account don't have this online pass thing, so I don't have any experience with online pass.

It was something EA started in 2009 (then-known as Project Ten Dollar) where new console games would include a one time use promo code for additional in-game content. The first game EA did this with was, I believe, Dragon Age: Origins. New copies of the game included the Blood Dragon Armor and Shale, an additional character and quest line. The goal was to either discourage used game sales, or provide a means for EA to at least make some money off of used sales, since people who bought used wouldn't get the free additional content, and they would be encouraged in-game to purchase the DLC. Originally viewed favourably in the industry, things when EA started simply locking-out the multiplayer component of games rather than actually offering any additional content.

The thread is six months old, so I wouldn't worry about it. Some dickhead has been necro-ing lots of threads and then deleting his comments.
