Terraria hasn't been abandoned. They're making a console version with more content that might be added to the pc version. If it isn't added someone's probably gonna mod it in.

Doesn't matter if it needs mods to be better than Terraria, if you really think that.
It's still better than Terraria.

+1. Mining is more fun in Terraria in my opinion. There are large caves to explore and you get a pretty good idea where you are in a 2D-environment. In Minecraft you encounter caves very rarely, and the mining is just digging through solid rock most of the time. And you never know where you are and end up getting lost without a map or a compass.

Yea caves are everywhere in Minecraft and not to mention huge ravines... As for getting lost, I actually like that it offers that challenge. It forces you think about which way your mining and keep track of which cave goes where with the help of signs. Your not just looking for ores, but exploring as well.

This is easy. Minecraft is overhyped. It's a good concept but its developers were stupid enough to not really do anything with it. The game is solely sustained by its community as an artistic sandbox but even then it's far from perfect. Making a modding API for the game was a smart move, essentially allowing the fans to fix Notch's game for him without doing any real work himself (he probably soon realized after adding a few goal-objects like xp and health that creating a real game and making it good took effort). It's been like a year though, so seriously, that API is a long time coming. More surprising than the fact that the "game" is still going strong is that no one with actual resources and scope has taken (read: stolen) the concept and made a real game out of it, or at least a better sandbox.
Terraria is 2d and kinda of tedious, but it's a "good effort" towards what I said above. It's better simply for the fact that there are things to work towards; bosses to fight, weapons to find; special items to create, while retaining the sandbox-ness that made Minecraft famous in the first place.

Yeah, that kind of makes it hard to descide ^^ I´d say Terraria IS better, but Minecraft FEELS better... I enjoy having a lot to do in Terraria, it has an insane amount of content.. but somehow in Minecraft, even hours of doing next to nothing is a great experience.

I think they both have the same amount of replay value, and they are equally as fun. I'd rather not choose between them, but terraria's vanilla game has more to offer and has taken up more of my time than minecraft has, so I choose terraria.

Terraria. Vanilla minecraft is shit. Thank god for modders.

Terraria. Minecraft is boring unless you're playing Tekkit.

It really depends on what you want. Despite the fact they both offer the ability to build your own home (or whatever you want to build) they really have very little in common with each other. Minecraft has breaking tools/gear, Terraria does not. Exploration in both games feels vastly different thanks to the 2D/3D thing and feel entirely different from each other. There is more gear in Terraria vs Minecraft, there are more enemies as well, and more varied environments to play in. Minecraft tends to look better, or at least be more visually impressive with some of the amazing landscapes it can create, whereas Terraria tends to look better just in a purely graphical sense. The AI in both games is pretty bad but I think the enemies in Terraria are a bit better. The AI for npcs however is bad in both games, never seen such suicidal NPCs before. Exploration in Terraria is easier in my opinion, but it's easier to advance in Minecraft since you can literally mine straight down and get a diamond shaft going within 10-30 minutes. It's easier to build something nice in Terraria, but you can build some incredibly impressive things in Minecraft. You can build impressive things in Terraria also, don't get me wrong, but for jaw dropping impressive you need Minecraft.
Despite the fact people seem to think they are the same game but in 2D/3D, they really aren't. Apples and oranges in my opinion. I would say get both, they are fun for different reasons.

I haven't played either of them. I have seen people play both. I won't vote but I would rather try Terraria first before Minecraft. Minecraft just doesn't even look appealing to me.

Whoa this one is going to be close. I prefer Terraria personally, but the comparison between the two is kind of apples and oranges, despite how it looks at first they really feel like different games gameplay wise.
Also Terraria has the Story of Red Cloud.

Personally, I'm all for the visual appeal of Minecraft. I just like the feeling of exploring a 3D world as well as seeing my creations come to life in 3D. The survival in Terraria is great, but building a house in Terraria just doesn't compete with doing so in Minecraft.

Stop voting on terraria because it will not be updated anymore!
The devs abandoned the PC version and is now switching to XBOX and PS with MORE CONTENT.

no, because that is a stupid reason. I'm sad too that they stopped updating, but the finished product is very solid on its own. Also some of the devs wanted to move on to a different yet similar project, Starbound
Also the devs had very little to do with the more content coming out on the console version apparently

I might bite at a paid dlc too, but like I said, the original devs have very little to do with any of the new stuff. As in, just creative input. They aren't making the console version, others are.
Plus we still have no idea what the new content will actually even be.

And even then it will still remain a better game.

Not really. If you are playing Terraria as a sandbox game or if you expected it to be 2D Minecraft you are doing it wrong. The game has goals and once you achieve them you are done with it, just like with every game that has a goal. Minecraft needs constant content updates and modding because the vanilla version is boring as hell.
'this game is bound to die faster' Who cares? It's not an MMORPG or a multiplayer FPS. You can grab one or two friends, go on mumble, host a server and enjoy the game. You don't need the game to have 2000 players to be fun. And as for getting boring eventually, every game does, regardless of updates. Minecraft without modders would be shit, Terraria is a decent game on it's own.
