It's been a year in Japan. I had interest in traveling in Japan but back in 2022, I thought about starting my own journey in leaning the language as I had so much time. Slowly, My interest shifted towards studying in Japan. My dad did not like the idea as it is expensive to live there (and in this economy because I come from a middle-class family in a third world country)
My effort for Japanese rose higher, I started to write kanjis, learn new words, tried speaking in different online platforms with the native people. Seeing my effort, my dad agreed to send me to Japan. Finally, a dream is coming true.....
Or so I thought..

Life is hard here, very hard. The language barrier is tougher than I thought. People really don't want to talk to foreigners. I had trouble making friends in college as well. Somehow, I was outcasted by my own native community in college. I had loneliness issues, had to take anti-depressants.
Finally, I decided to quit my stupid journey last year in August. Went back to my country. Became terribly sick by food poisoning (third world country innit)
But I decided to come back to Japan again after my recovery. This time I had help from a friend but guess what... this guy also backstabbed my while I was in my lowest moments. I was like, "Japan is not for me after all," and decided to quit for the 2nd time. I had a bigger break in my country this time, rethinking my life decisions. My dad sought out help from his home town and finally found someone who wanted to aid me in every single way. I am back in Japan now, but this time the community I got is so nice and generous. I am really happy this time and looking forward to finish my studies at least.

Yes, life is difficult but I can't go on complaining forever. It's either 3 more years of sacrifice or 30 more years of regret....

I've been studying Japanese more as a hobby pretty casually so I greatly respect the efforts you put into it and it's awesome to here you continued to push in your journey and that it's seemingly working out now.

Wishing you continued success!

I'm from the US and from our cultural perspective, Japan is a country of introverts. There is a high level of social distance and loud or non conforming behavior is discouraged. Even something simple as expressing how one really feels is considered shameful. Of course for the Japanese this is just their culture. They would tell you that they tolerate introverts as valid and contributing members of society. Of course there are extremes that are shameful, but that's true of any culture.

If you are an outgoing and non conforming person, you might easily make a fool of yourself and not know it. It's considered very impolite to point out others flaws. so they would just find a reason to not meet with you again.

As you observed, you really have to speak, or at least read, Japanese to get around.
English for the Japanese is like Spanish for most of the US. It's a language they had to learn in school. Most of them never used it after that.
Seeming to speak bad English can be embarrassing to them. And that's a lot more important to them then it is to must other cultures.

I am glad you are getting some help. It is a beautiful and peaceful place.

You have my utmost respect for trying again and keeping your dream alive after two soul crushing disappointments.
I'm glad to read it went way better this time around.
From my own experience leaving everything behind to go live in another country, communities are important and it's not always easy to get a good group around you so it's crucial to have found some people to rely on before you make the jump to another life.

I wish you luck for your continuing journey but you have already overcome major obstacles so I'm confident you'll make it.
