Pretty much as the title states, should I invest money now or should I wait for when the game is 1.0 and released on Steam (devs have mentioned they might)?

Reason why I am asking is if I buy the game now, is it possible that upon their release on Steam (if it will happen) they will give cd keys to be registered in Steam as well?

Your thoughts?

Buy it now. I'm playing since dec 2017. And i don't see that i'm getting tired of it. Also this beta has more content then any AAA game on full release and runs just fine as well.

You must be trolling, since it's the best shooter game that I ever played. The feel is like in no other game. And it spoiled me from playing any other shooters.

I must say I like how Destiny 2 guns feel. Many different guns and all of them give you the feeling of shooting it for real.

My bf has been playing this game every day every chance he gets for about a month. The only issue I've noticed is that the queue for joining matches can sometimes take upwards of 10 minutes on bad days or if you play a mode that isn't as popular.

Comment has been collapsed.

There's only one game mode, raid.

Long matchtimes can be becouse the servers are overloaded (influx of new players over the NY twitch event), servers you have selected are empty (this is a high possibility, since if you manualy change servers to less populated ones you will match forever) or becouse you play outside peek hours on your selected server. Tell your BF to check his server selection in the launcher.

I play on automatic server selection and i never wait more than 2 minutes.

When it was bad he was playing from like 9pm-2am PST using the corresponding server to that region which may have been part of the issue then seeing as it was late. He has friends he plays with that are from the other side of the country, so he may have been using a different server from his own timezone. I think he's been using PST for the most part though.

The servers are a mess right now because of the insane popularity increase. Ive been playing this game for 2 plus years and this is the worst its ever been. If anyone is even remotely interested in this genre of game, they will likely get hundreds if not thousands of hours out of the game.

The devs are d*cks though. They thought they had the right to falsely send copyright strikes to one youtuber.

I'm not kidding, check here and here.

If a developer does things like that, they're dead to me unless they change but I have little hope for that.

That's what I think about them as well. Using copyright strikes to silence criticism is a major red flag. From what I remember, this dude was posting tons of Tarkov videos due to playing it a lot. The game was in terrible state so it could've been just an honest feedback. Now the channel is pretty much gone. The developer didn't even hide the fact that what they've done was a straight up deliberate misuse. Shame...

Some developers just can't take criticism. After all, isn't that one of the only things you depend on when creating something for the public? If you decide to attack your consumer base, it will never end well.

As for the channel, it's still up. The damage, however, was done. Real shame indeed...

Why did Eroktic apologize to the Devs about this situation if the devs were at fault? Its almost like this is only one side of the story and youre helping to spread misinformation to help your opinion?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

He only apologized for being a helper, a content creator for Escape From Tarkov.

What Battlestate games did was scummy and unlawful (47 copyright strikes, knowingly stating that they're not for copyright).

In this video, Eroktic stated that he and other people wanted to make the game better, pointing out bugs and stuff. And from hearing a statement that Battlestate games don't want to be associated with him is heartbreaking. Imagine if you love a game and want to make it better but, instead, you get shafted in one of the worst ways possible.

If you agree about Battlestate games' actions, then let me ask you this question. Why didn't Battlestate games use a "Defamation Complaint" option on Youtube? Going after the Youtuber with false copyright strikes not only breaks the law but also fair use and your own ToS. It doesn't matter which country you live in because DMCA is a "US law" made action that's needed for Youtube. You could be charged for perjury if you use it for the wrong reasons.

There is no misinformation. The evidence is on the internet. The two videos I gave links to show how scummy the devs are and there are more videos like this (check here for Upper Echelon Gamers' opinion) and if you wanted to hear the other side of the story, then watch the whole Eroktic's video I posted in this comment.

As for Eroktic himself, he had the balls to keep his cool and act nicely in his video. He didn't wish anything bad to the devs but at the same time, he is disappointed. He wanted to make the game better but what he got instead, was the undeserved backlash from the very people who developed the game.

It seems like he is playing the game again, making videos and enjoying himself. If there were hard feelings between the two, its long been buried and nearly as serious as you seem to want to make it. If this is the hill you want to plant your flag on, be my guest, but calling an entire development studio "dicks" because of something you only know one side to the story of seems like a weird place to want to be.

Everybody makes mistakes. It's what makes us human.
Hopefully, this was the only case when devs were using power for personal gain.

If not, then either they are very bad at receiving critique or they are making this game a huge cash grab and don't want anyone to point out anything bad with their product that would give them the revenue.

What kind of "other side" of the story did you want to hear then? This whole story is one-sided with actual proof. A development studio sent unfair copyright strikes to a Youtuber which resulted in channel termination and admitting that they did that on purpose without resorting to "more civilized" options. Thankfully, the channel is restored and Eroktic stated that he holds no significant grudges to the company, which in the end he continues uploading the content of that game.

The reason that I, myself and plenty of other people calling them like that and outright refuse to even touch their games is that they committed a scummy, illegal act that could destroy the livelihood of a Youtuber. Remember SupMatto? His channel got destroyed thanks to the d*ckheads at 2K and his channel was never restored. As a result, I, myself and others have boycotted 2K games altogether (and yes, for me this boycott is working). If Eroktic's channel was never restored, then Battlestate games would be in the same position as 2K. Except Battlestate games is in a better position than 2K, but the damage is done regardless of what level of morality they have.

The point I'm making is if a company has done this type of damage, they can do it again and have no regrets. This can scare, discourage or even leave sour hatred for the company. If you buy their games, you support their scummy actions. The only way you can convince a company that they did a terrible thing is public outrage. It worked numerous times in the past.

My point still stands. What Eroktic does is his choice. I and many others, however, will never support that company. If you got a similar story with 2 sides, I'd want to hear it.

The only time I accept forgiveness is when a company publicly acknowledges its mistakes and is "actually" trying to fix what they did. No Man's Sky developers did that, somewhat. Scott Cawthon did that with his game that disappointed everybody, recalled it and gave everybody refunds. That level of action shows respect.

This is a beta version 0.12 so there is no point of having it before it gets released as a normal game + copyright strikes on youtube means that the game will probably never be released as a finished game or that developers want to hide something.

It's a really cool & ambitious game that does a lot really really well despite some of its faults, but if you want to wait for it to leave beta I think you will be waiting a long time. There are a lot of things yet to be seen & many things still subject to change. What's in the game now is great but they usually wipe progress about once a year because so much changes, to make sure everyone has a new start along with new content they add. If you're fine with playing a game that is really cool but admittedly early access, then I'd say give it a shot. Otherwise you'll likely be waiting a long time before the possible Steam release.

This game has a steep steep learning curve.
If you get it early you can hone your skills and maybe learn not to care too much when losing gear and accept that you will die a lot.

When it comes for the game to come to v1.0 i feel there will be a few years more.

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend on the game. The 1.0 will likely be more expensive, so if you want to safe some money, buy it now.

It really depends on two things, and to put it into some context I need to blab on for a while:

  1. It isn't 100% sure Tarkov will go on Steam, and it isn't 100% sure present day players will get a Steam key just because the game launches there.
There's high hopes of both, there have been hints about the first, there's been discussions about the second - but no facts. If you are willing to risk it, if Steam is such a necessity, perhaps think about this one a bit before buying.

  2. How you personally deal with frustration.
If you have no issues with frustration and can control it, then you have nothing to worry about. If however, you get very upset and angry maybe you should think twice about it. The game is at times running fine, at times frustratingly fucking annoying with stutters, disconnects, server and account issues, etc.
This game is in proper BETA stage, it's not finished by far. And it is developed by a small studio so things take time. Compared to for example a CoD beta where a huge studio presents an mostly if not completely finished game, and the ''testing'' is more about server loads (actually, more of a pre-pay/pre-play perk than beta) than any actual in game testing.

Now. That said. Tarkov is like nothing I've ever played before. Frustrations and issues aside, it is the only game that in my adult life that gives me the same joy to play as games did back in the day when I was not dry behind the ears.
It has a learning curve that is comparable to being hit in the face with a shovel. While on fire. And the floor is lava. And you're dead and your gear is lost. But man oh man, when your in it, the adrenaline goes up, the rush of completing a raid is unforgettable.
If you like getting killed over and over again as a ''lovely little learning experience*, then this might just be the game for you.

But do consider 1 & 2 first. You have been warned.

PS.
USEC's are bitches.
BEAR's are Heroes of the Motherland. Chiki-briki, pal'chik vykin

Been playing since January 2017 and i can tell you its worth the buy. Its in beta its full of glitches and bugs but they dont take away from the general gameplay. It has a learning curve and a toxic reddit community (since drops, its even worse) but with friends its a gem to learn the game step by step trial and error style. Solo its doable too, you are less stressed about sounds and since the game has no friendly tag markers everyone is an enemy.

there is no set date for 1.0 release, it can be this year in might be next or in 2022.

Buy it, buy the standard edition first then upgrade it if you like they game so you dont spend 140 bucks up-front.

Solo is addictive though. Yeah, you die a little more, but the feeling of taking on Tarkov alone and beating it is unsurpassed.

Why do you need to have it on Steam?
Why do you think the Devs will give out free Steam keys?
If money is no object then go for it. Just don't expect anything. Even promises can be broken by Devs, with no easy way of seeking recompense if affected.

I keep all my games in one place, hence, Steam.
As RCSWE mentioned above, the developers have stated in their FAQ page, that it is a possibility for the game to be released on Steam, however, only when it will be 1.0

In any case, I think I will wait a bit before jumping on EFT train.

A few days ago one of the devs has personally told me they are releaseing on steam after the beta. Though have in mind, it wasn't official statement and the beta may last few more years. I am pretty sure they will give steam keys to current players because splitting playerbase like that is a very dumb move. Also they have discounts on some holidays, probably it's significantly cheaper than will be after the release.
A slight note: in theory the game is supposed to become more difficult and complex with every patch, so maybe jumping in now will help with learning curve, but you know all the typical beta flaws.
