I was looking for someone who I used to talk to about 5 months ago.
I found someone who I thought was them, the problem was they had no alias.
Turns out it was them and steam had removed their old alias.

This happened to me also.
I used to use the name derangedboar. All lowercase. I now use DerangedBoar. Two uppercase letters after deranged and boar.
Steam doesn't see that at all. It only shows my current one on my profile.
Steamrep kept the history of my alias change though.

I can't find anything on google, or anywhere else. Could someone confirm that they remove old aliases after awhile, along with a source if you could.

It will only show the last 10 names you've used. I do not believe it's wiped as I have a name change from July 2011 showing.

Odd, ive seen people losing their old ones. Even though they had like 1 or 2 changes.

maybe someone else used it so it was removed from said account. maybe 2 people can't have the same name change.

Steam wouldn't remove alias changes for me, and they always just store the last 10. I asked them to remove changes after recovering from my hijack and clear all the alias the hijacker used. They wouldn't, so I just filled my name history with variations on my username. But case-changes in the username didn't create additional entries.

I thought they were keep a record for instances of wrongdoing. Unless it's kept non-public.

Some scammers tend to change their nicknames/aliases (I'm not saying you're one of them!) so I hope Steam don't delete any of their previous names.
