It was just there in my game libary without explaination (not that i mind fun game). I own a physical copy and played it quite a bit but that was before actual origin existed and later i was not able to activate the key on origin. Is it some sort of promotion? A glitch or something ? Again no appearent information to find why. Did it happen to anybody else ?

EDIT: Well it seems the riddle has been solved.

https://help.ea.com/en/article/origin-accounts-are-now-ea-accounts/

It seems that most people who have already owned a version of BC2 on steam or Retail had it activated on origin now as well. For BC2 you had to make an EA-Account which WAS kind of a seperate account to Origin. I was not aware of that. These two accounts now have been merged.

Thanks for all the participens with their info.

What's Origin?

EA's answer to steam. Their DRM platform like Uplay is Ubisoft's DRM.

I knew that, I was just being a jerk...I actually use both of those. :P
EDIT: to add at least something somewhat useful to the thread - I can say for the record that Battlefield Bad Company 2 is not in my account

community features & storefronts make it more than drm

plain drm is securom, tages, etc

also before origin, it was EADM (download manager), & they had their own website-only store for years, not everything has to be an 'answer', it could be a paradigm shift for the whole industry

I remember they gave away the sims2 I think, and also BF1942 at one stage
I got rid of everything with Origin in lieu of Steam, so can't say I'll check for you.
Still, sweet score dude!!

it is nice to have that game in my account. its just weird that it is just there. Even the Games "on the house" still require to "buy it" for 0 €. And normaly you get some email or notification. And it acually still cost 9.99€

I already have the game on Steam...as for Origin, I just checked and don't have it in my account so I guess you lucked out somehow :-)

I have it too. That's so weird! Maybe it's a promotion for people who have battlefield 3 because that's the only game I have on origin other than Crysis.

possible. i have bf3 too (when it was "on the house"). also i think might has something to do with the recent document leak. maybe some sort of gimmik to reasure customers. or some generous hacker is just throwing free copies around :-)

I got bf3 from on the house too and I don't have it, so that probably isn't it.

do you own a hardcopy of the game ? or have it played before? i think it might be that they just activated the old copies on origin (if you used the same email for your origin account)

view the key in origin, does it match your retail? (edit: you would have to have signed into the same EA account on origin & in game for me to ask this)

(edit 2: want to play sometime? got vietnam?)

muhahah ;-) i am just throwing some theories around maybe ea is shutting down the servers and is just throwing it around for the singleplayer campaign or maybe (as a positive idea) they start to implement it into the battellog system. i remember the original system for bc2 multiplayer as a rough prototype for battellog which was not the most reliable. well of to sleep now good night (or good day)

bc2 isnt like battlelog... unless you mean that there is a section for friend leaderboards & a follow friend into server button

i doubt it's going offline, crysis 2 came out a year later but has been offline for over a year due to gamespy shutdown (actually, that's why previous battlefields are also offline)

i can tell you bc1 on consoles is still online... i think... i hope... i should play it some more, 1943 was still online as of a month ago (i have both on ps3)

yeah i meant that part. i found it quite confusing when you had to use your browser to play
bf3 and bf4 but i got used to it and wouldnt mind if i could use it for bc2 too. but i just assume that ea finaly just activated my old copy to my account (but i am not sure if i used my old email of bc2 for my origin account too ) still leaves the question why i have a different key than on my retail version

The only game i have ever actually bought for origin was bf4 the rest of my origin games come from humblebundle and "on the house" promotion and i never preorder anything. Really no idea why its there.

i will attemp to use my supernatural powers to call upon the god of video games to grant you your wish. Sadly he is quite the unreliable bastard and might not do anything or even worse (shudder) add another copy of bejeweled to your account.

The GoVG(God of Video Games) send me a vision of a beautiful maiden proclaiming his decision
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOdjCb4LwQY

Dont be downcast the gods statements are rarely definitiv. He might change his decision in the future (and if you are lucky even in your lifetime). Also the pantheon of gaming is quite vast and contains quite a few minor gods for example the two faced goddes called Community, the big DLC-Dude, the vile DRM-Devil or his equaly disgusting daughter Microtransaction-Medusa (also known as the canadian devil) and of course the GAMEOVER- Grim-Reaper.

So i may consort with the other minor deities of gaming if time so permits.

They never have any rhyme or reason when they give stuff away. Last time it happened i got dragon age origins and everyone else i knew didnt get it.

lots of times its to promote new releases. like when thy gave away bf 3 shortly before bf4 came out (if i remember correctly. Or as you mentioned Dragon Age Origins shortly before Dragonage Inquisition came out. Between big releses they tend to give away older stuff like recently C&C Red Alert 2 (great game)or those boring puzzle games ala peggle.

Maybe they are shutting down support for it soon.

If you go to the game properties it'll tell you the date it was added to your library.

I have a physical copy too and it activated on Origin when I tried. I think it might have been $1 once too as a special promo.

Same thing happened to me, but this was more than 2 years ago. Bought 2 copies on Origin to gift since I already had the game on Steam and one week later the game showed up in my library.

I had already BC2 Digital Deluxe Edition on Origin and I now also have BC2 standard edition on Origin

That BC2 has on the upper right corner the word: NEW

And if I take a look at the game details (view game details) of BC2 then I see it also has Vietnam and Specact.

i never had the deluxe edition or the addons and they also dont show in my account. i had the vague idea they just finaly activated my old copy to my account ( but i am not sure if i used the same data for bc2 and origin). has been quite some time since i played it.

i am just used to ask the comunity first. generaly you get a quicker response and maybe get the attention of people who might have the same problem now or in the future. but good idea ill do that. (honestly i where iam from we generally dont count on technical support to provide any useful information)

Agreed, but in this case nobody knows and it will be a lot faster if you contact their live support. Unlike the steam EA is having great support worldwide.
I have Bf 3 and Bf 4 on origin and still no Bf 2 free, i also do not own it on steam. My guess is that you have it on steam and they gave you free Bf2 on origin.

I own the retail version. But i guess its the same for those versions too. but the support is currently for me unavailible. But i just read that the Origin Account is now the EA-Account

https://help.ea.com/en/article/origin-accounts-are-now-ea-accounts/

So i guess that the ea accounts you had to use for bc2 are now merged with the origin accounts.

( i thought both already were the same. seems like that wasnt the case)

Ok, strange. I have it in steam and just copied the key from steam and redeemed successfully on origin. Maybe they allow now activating on both platforms. Same with BC2:Vietnam

But could also be that it should be as I never started the game before ;)
