Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.

The prize: 2x Sea of Stars
Note: This means I'm giving away two copies of the game and will have 2 winners.

Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.

Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add you on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.

FAQ:

Why you doing this?

I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for over eight years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.

I've played the first X minutes of a game, can I pick it for the event?

No. You cannot have any play time or achievements prior to the start of the event. The only exception is idle time from farming Steam cards.

Can I play a MP only game?

No. It needs to have an "end" in order for me to count it as beaten, so it needs to have a campaign/story mode.

If a game was sold as a non-Steam copy in a bundle (origin/uplay/drm-free/etc), can I pick it as a choice if I own a Steam copy?

No. The reason being that those who own a Steam copy would have an extra option that would not be available to everyone who bought the same bundle. If the game was originally sold as a non-Steam copy, but Humble later provided steam keys to everyone who bought the bundle, then the game would be allowed.

Why six games?

The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.

How long are you going to do this?

Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.

This event "ends" on December 5th when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.

Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and best of luck on you journey.

Cj do you accept games with bugged achievements? For some reason Roboquest didn't unlock several achievements.

I was a little late to the challenge and couldn't play the longer games I had on my list, but I'll definitely do that for the next challenge. Overall I enjoyed playing those games and I was able to clear my backlog a little bit while discovering some quality games. If I had to choose 1 game from my games played that stood out to me, I would pick Metal Hellsinger. I had such a blast with this game and I'll definitely continue playing to obtain all the achievements in the game.

Whoops, I thought we had a 2-month long event this time and slacked off. Maybe I'll be able to speedrun a few games with a lil more than a week left!

Sorry :(. I didn't want this one to be 2-month long because of the holidays and it would ended right after New Years. Moving forward it will be 2-1-2-1-etc. without further adjustments unless otherwise stated (unlikely but you never know).

I'm back to slide under the door later than ever

Completed games:

SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated from May 2022

achievements - "The Small Does Not Rule"

At first, Battle for Bikini Bottom felt far too simple and easy, but it settled into being a more balanced mascot platformer after the first level. I like SpongeBob most of the time, but I felt the humor from this game wasn't really hitting the majority of the time, which is a shame since most of the original voice cast worked on the game. Mrs. Puff was probably my favorite.

Merchant of the Skies from July 2023

achievements

Didn't really get the hang of the gameplay loop right away, but Merchant of the Skies had some intriguing concepts in a game that was easy to progress in small pieces.

Little Nightmares from September 2018

achievements - "The lady's quarters"

The gameplay is a bit flawed when it comes to the platforming mechanics, but Little Nightmares has arresting visuals and atmosphere for days. Tarsier Studios could really knock it out of the park with a licensed Nightmare Before Christmas or Coraline game, but having their original IP is a nice treat all its own.

Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate from July 2023

achievements - "Complete"

Getting started in this roguelike felt a bit frustrating and oppressive at first, but as roguelikes are wont to do, I got rewarded with an absolute scorching hot streak of a lucky run eventually. Shotgun King offers some fun twists on the chess formula overall, but I do still run into issues where I don't quite think ahead enough and eat an easily avoidable loss. Just like real chess, in some ways..

Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus? from September 2023

spoilery achievements - "The truth"

I'm an unashamed FMV-game enjoyer, but this felt disjointed off the bat. No character is likable, but at the same time, none of them are fun to hate. The mechanics of uncovering the murder feel punishing and unforgiving, especially before you get the skip button. However...

Five Dates from February 2023

achievements - "Only thyme will tell" is a possible good ending

As far as lockdown/COVID-era FMV games go, Five Dates is much more of a hit than Uncle Marcus. In both games, I was torn between choosing honestly and trying to butter up the character I was conversing with, but in Five Dates it feels like you have much more room to make honest mistakes and still end up a winner. Maybe there's hope for us all in dating.
