It seems that due to brexit GMG is converting wallets and prices from GBP to USD, for international customers.

Mail I've received:

Dear customer,

We have some important information to share with you about the currency you pay in, on the Green Man Gaming website.
From 23rd October 2019, we are changing the currency that you use to shop with us to US dollars.
We’ve decided to review our pricing currency so we can get the best deals to customers that offer overall cheaper prices for everyone.
Please note that any existing credit balance will be converted to US dollars, which may take up to 24 hours. If you have any questions or concerns, > > please contact our Customer Support team.
Please note this is a service message relating to your shopping currency, and your Marketing communication preferences remain unaffected.

Kind Regards,
Green Man Gaming Customer Support

Well, I guess it depends on your region. Mine is EU and I had prices in GBP

Idk, I'm in Italy and all the prices on GMG have always been in EUR.. even right now I see them all in €

The diference between you two is the currency used. Italy uses € and Poland does not, so you're both in the EU and still get a different currency shown.

They've always been in Euro here in Ireland.

That's a good thing for me. I prefer the USD over GBP. With GBP I always overpaid for the same item vs USD/EUR.

this is for sure a good thing for me too, better to pay in usd or eur if one has to choose

For me the highest conversion spread is for GBP, then USD and EUR. Also in UK games are noticeably more expensive, so I guess that's the problem for you. GMG is detecting your locale so they will also tax you accordingly.

If anything, they should have used EUR from the start based on my localization but they went with GBP. Anyway, all in all, regardless of their reasons, I welcome their change to USD pricing :).

Done a small test and looks like no VAT tax anymore, so I'm getting "US prices". WOW

I stopped shopping with them when they changed the "international" currency to GBP, but I doubt this change will make me convert back to their store...

Damn. GBP prices were always a bit better on the two stores that used it, but now even GMG is converting to USD.
I guess I can only hope Trump tanks the USD now as the Brexit did the GBP. =P

Finally they've realized, that people outside of Euro/GBP/USD zones are much more likely to have their foreign currency accounts in USD or Euro, than in GBP ;). Still, beats me, why they just don't give us a choice, which currency we want to use, if anyway they keep selling their stuff in all 3 currencies?

I agree, it's weird to use so many currencies.

Anyways, I've added a game to the cart and there's no VAT tax anymore. Looks like the USD prices are final. If so - unexpected massive price drop for me.

In a nutshell, the extra work required compared to the benefit the store receives is not worth it

1) they'd need to build a mechanism to give you the choice
2) they'd need to do extra work on the back end (accounting, reporting, tax, and, for non E.U., customs/import issues) that would need to be converted/consolidated

Basically, it's a lot simpler to not give you that functionality, and it's not likely they'd lose a lot of business over it.

They always made you overpay when there was GBP so its probably for the better.

This. Haven't purchased off GMG in years, and the last time I considered it, I couldn't even login.
