Hello peeps!

Since I've been using Discord lately and haven't seen any threads about it, I was wondering how many of you are using and enjoying it.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not here to promote it, just to ask steamgifts community how likely would they join the channel if steamgifts had one and what they think of the software overall.

Also if anyone thinks that Discord is a great way to connect steamgifts users to play games together or to simply create private giveaways or to throw in few ninja giveaways in chat, let me know if you're willing to start a channel with me!

Would you like SteamGifts to have it's own Discord channel?

Hell yeah
Probably not

I use Discord, and I think it's nice.
I'm just unsure if this idea will fly with the people here though. I remember a similar thread before about a TS server for SG. Basically, it got rejected. :P
I personally wouldn't mind though. I like stalking people.

Yup! Thought it might be ok to bring up discord topic after teamspeak since its interface seems more friendly and actually appealing

I have it installed, but haven't been able to use it, I'm not cool enough to actually have a link to any channels. :(

It seems really cool though, lots of useful features that I wish other programs had.

Yup! And they keep adding new stuff! Also you there are plenty of channels you can join, there's one for Overwatch, which I hope will get a Beta soon

You have to have a direct link to get in though don't you? I don't really see anyone advertising their discord channels to join, but I guess I'm just not looking in the right places.

I installed because of a few Twitch groups.
It is probably the least bad IM program I encountered. Still has fundamental issues though, as basic as not being able to change font or resize it, or remove that gigantic dead space on the left that takes up way more space than it ever should. (This is a serious issue in the new Skype Business/Lync too, more than half of the area is wasted on pure blank whiteness.)

I agree on the "dead space" part, but it'll change a lot with time I suppose, since devs actually listen to the community.

Frankly, that is a smaller issue with proper window placement than the fact it hurts my eyes to read that minuscule letters. I have a chat client above it with almost twice as big letters. That are nice, monospace. Even Skype lets you change the font, I hope they add that option in, and soon.

Goes off to look up what "Discord" is.
Um... Steam has build in team chat. You could add any number of people to a chat and then activate the voice chat option. I'm not saying it's any good, but it kinda kills the need for external stuff.

Well it has few more options like individual user volume control / mute etc. It all depends on what you need.

Honestly, I cannot think of a worse chat client I ever encountered than Steam's chat system.

Kinda looks like a voip focused version of Slack.
Seems like a cool alternative to TS for sure.
Hardly use ts/mumble anymore, but if I did I would probably use it.

The app is quite nice, it's very userfriendly as well. :)

Been using it for a week or two now every now and then while playing with friends and it's nice.
Does need some more work and it can become a great program - as long as they listen to their community and add some of the stuff other IM programms have in their repertory

"Yes!" to Discord, "No!" to a Discord channel for SteamGifts.

I came here expecting to find Eris worship, people seeking Illumination and a general disdain of hotdog buns.

Looks cool, never heard of it before, I'll check it out later :D
Also I like the idea of SG having its own channel, I could finally interact with real people!

My biggest priority with voice chat is how much of a connection demand it is (I have terrible internet). I stopped using Skype because it seemed to tax my connection more than other alternatives. Is Discord low demand?

As I've heard it uses some kind of codec which adapts to the connection, somewhat like skype when it "muffles" the sound, only discord codec is more effective

not 100 percent sure of it, albeit its worth a try (especially since they fixed many issues it had since then)

its basically an all in-one alternative service for gamers that unifies skype/teamspeak and other IM

simply put it lets you create your own chatrooms, having TSS and all that good stuff, for free on top of that and from what the devs said, the core functions will always stay free

Maybe we should create one for people to test out and see if they like it?
