I thought LA Noire was awful.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm not saying it wasn't well done. The question was which game was a disappointment, and LA Noire was that for me probably because I had built it up to be something amazing in my mind. I loved the style (tended to play it in black and white because it reminded me of the old detective movies), and the concept had me enthralled to begin with. But after a while, the hand holding became to obvious, and it didn't really matter whether you picked the correct response or not the game would lead you back the right way (albeit with some reduction in score iirc). I'm certainly not saying it was a bad game, and I sincerely hope the motion capture technology used will find it's way in to more games.

I see, thats true, I tried to get best scores though....guess thats what made it more entertaining to me. The motion capturing was amazing.

If you didn't like those games, then you were clearly silly for buying them. They're excellent games, but maybe not your personal preference.

On the surface, they are games that I should have liked which is why I bought them. Hence, when I didn't like them as much as I thought I would, they became dissapointments (to me).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Your not alone. I expected a sequel to Max Payne when I got MP3. I was quite sad. To me it felt more like an on rails no choice GTA with a Max skin than a Max Payne game. I just let him die halfway through the game and banished it from my steam. I think that's what Max wanted.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Once I was on a store with friends and heard a couple girls chatting about games, one asked the other how was MP3, the other answered: "Main deception of the year, big pile of shit". We were a bit surprised (that was a month after the release).
So not everyone thinks it was great.
I can't say my opinion atm.

LA Noire indeed was a major dissapointment for me. I looked forward very much to playing it, but it seems like the choices you make matter nothing at all...(except for a meaningless grade system). To that, add pretty lame action sequences, and that's what you get :/

I definitely agree with LA Noire. It was a poor attempt at a point and click adventure. The choice selections during interviews were hard to judge (such as choosing being cautious whether you believe someone or not and the guy just outright tells them he thinks they did it)

The fun part of B&W was taking care of the animal and making it do what you wanted it to do. Converting villages and such on the other hand was just tedious and rather boring, so when the game decides to take the animal away from you at the second level it just becomes boring. I never did beat the 3rd level because of this.

I would not call B&W the worst game ever, but it was one of the most disappointing games I've played.

I was on the pre-order Molyneux hype train with that one. Never again will I trust his words -- he's got a lot of great vision, but the released game (like many of his others afterward) did not deliver on the grandioseness of his promises. Like AFnord mentions, it's not a bad game, but disappointment? -- through the roof.

Actually, it wasn't: boring missions (you travel 10 minutes from hideout to location, do some easy quest like "drive form A to B, then to C" in less than 5 minutes and spent another 10 traveling back to savepoint) especially Gang Wars, all Sims-like "acivities", ugly graphics causing that game looks older than really is, etc.
Removing most of those stupid things in GTA IV was an excellent decision. Less The Sims, more GTA.

+1, was playing LoL when i won a copy at steamgifts. From all the talks of people in forums and chats i did really expect a good game, but then when i played it it turned out to be them most horrible and unbalanced game i have ever played. A champ that stuns you for freaking 7 seconds. A gnome whose shooting range is bigger then your vision range. And those graphics, those bright colors hit your eyes so much. Even with the smallest brightnes it still looked if someone was pointing a flashlight onto you.

Nah, FO3 was god-awful. Terrible plot that was a mish-mash from FO1 and 2, dull one dimensional characters, filler perks and skills that didn't matter, facepalm writing and world that didn't make any sense. The dlc was also atrocious in general, excluding Point Lookout. All in all, the typical Beth game - all exploration and nothing else.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Average game, tell me, what games have you been playing? Because I cannot think of any other game that is even similar to Bethesda's Fallout 3, although it did kill what Fallout used to be.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

New Vegas absolutely destroys FO3. It runs on the same shit engine, but that's the only similarity between them. Also you obviously didn't play the other Beth games, Fallout 3 is basically a reskin of TES4: Oblivion in an attempt to continue the Fallout series.

Because it was disappointing compared to my expectations, but not even by much.

Say I buy a new game that has a really bad metascore (Don't ask me why I'd buy that), my expectations wouldn't be very high for something like that, so that's why.

It's not a bad game at all, I've played it quite a bit and I like it.

and it really was a victim of Will Wright's overhyping it years before it even got out. I remember expecting a brilliant game and waiting a few years for it, the hype never calming.
