I think it would be a good idea to let the creators of the giveaways choose not only the duration of a giveaway, but, optionally, a limit of entries. This way people who've already entered could actually have a chance and a hope, knowing that the number of entries won't be increasing beyond a certain point. I was motivated to create this thread after I saw the number of entries for Skyrim. Just - lol, five and a half thousands of entries. Also I have many other good ideas, each of them provided with decent arguments in it's favour. The problem is, I don't know how local admins react to user feedback. As far as I've understood, many people were/are against the point system, yet it is still being kept. I'm not judging anyone. The site is working well, though it could've been better.

As I understand it, the admins listen to user feedback, they are just too busy to implement it quickly :/

The idea is nice, although there should be some limit to how low the number of entries could be set. I'd say the lower limit should be 50 or 100, not less. Paired with the ticket one it's pretty awesome!

Agree. But what do you mean by "ticket one"?

Cult posted an idea a while back to do away completely with the point system. Instead of having points to limit how many giveaways we enter we should just be given (pulling random number out of my butt) 10 tickets that can be used to enter a giveaway. As soon as the giveaway that you entered ends, your ticket will be regenerated after 24 hours. you simply can never have more than 10 tickets at a time though or whatever number we decide. The community seemed to support the idea a lot but implementing it is another story. I think the main idea behind this concept is that no one would benefit from creating a fake giveaway and therefore would lower the number of fakes we see. The idea wasn't to lower the amount of entries in each giveaway.

In response to the creator being able to cap the amount of entries in each giveaways.

this idea has its ups and downs. First I would like to say that the community is growing fast. No matter what you do you will still have the same odds of winning a game over a period of time. With more users entering for giveaways, there is also more giveaways being created and you can enter for more giveaways.

However, I do see your point as even though i REALLY want skyrim, i did not see the point in entering because their were so many entries that i didn't have any chance to win so why waste my points. Your idea would fix this problem. Except it would create another. Some people have to work for a living and they can not monitor this site 24/7 waiting for a giveaway to be posted (btw these are usually the people who have money to create the giveaways everyone wants to see). by limiting the amount of entries they will miss out on a chance to enter. If skyrim was limited to 100 entries you would have 5480 really pissed off people on this site and only 100 happy members. That is just a recipe for disaster. I know i would rather have 5000:1 odds of winning than to see a giveaway posted that I am not allowed to enter just because I am too slow. bad odds is better than no odds.

This Idea is better than other suggestions i have seen though. By putting the decision in the creators hands it gives a lot more variability and could make the website a little more fun for gifters and receivers both.

Yeah, but no one who works for a living needs to leech for $10 games on SteamGifts...

Against it. The amount of complaints arising from people not being able to enter into their desired giveaways will be huge, as Wedge has pointed out.

At this point, I don't think Steamgifts has enough members to warrant the implementation of a max amount of entries. 5000:1 for an extremely popular game like Skyrim is still, all things considered, a fairly decent chance. When these games start climbing towards the 10.000, I think some sort of limiting system could be sensible.
