Recently sent a winner a key, and just reminded him to mark the gift as received. Normally, I'd expect a reply of a thank you. But instead, I get a "done.".

Mentioning that in a thread here somewhere, the winner of my giveaway saw it, and replied with a condescending correction. All that, and yet no thanks. He even said that he was wanting to 'catch me online' to thank me, but he never managed to, probably due to different time zones, and the fact that I don't go online much. So instead of sending a message offline, he deleted me. By getting on his high horse and thinking he can condescendingly squirm his way out of a simple thank you, and deleting me off steam, is just such a scumbag move.

Any of you have similar experiences?

Seriously though, I've pretty much always added my winners to Steam. Have a little chat before I give the key.
Much more personal, and I've had no one be so ungrateful they didn't even say thanks. That aside, it gives me the option to check whether they activate the game or just.. resell/trade it.

In my personal case, I've been patiently waiting to thank someone for a giveaway I won recently. And I won't rest until I've succeeded in doing so.

Good man, that's an honourable trait you possess. As for sending gifts, I'm on your side with adding people on steam, it really is more personal, and since you are able to instant message each other, everything goes smoother, and quicker.

I once forgot to thank him, well, I tried sending a reply to the email that contained the code; is it the correct procedure? I didn't want to have him to add me through Steam in case he was close to filling his friends list or something...

Some times it may be because there's no simple direct way to do so, I think we need a private message sender here to solve it.

There is no correct procedure, its not a rule, but it's just common courtesy, its great that you replied, but replying via any means is perfectly fine. In my case, the guy had me on his friends list, so there was access to private messaging.

Yeah, I prefer sending gifts because of that. Replying to the email leaves me with the doubt of wether he received it or not...

If the gifter sends the game through email, I always send my reply that way.

I've had most of my winners say thanks, but with the number I've had, I've had one or two thankful people and one user that never activated their win. It sucks, but it happens.

I guess certain people are just brought up in an environment which does not value courtesy/politeness as much. I'm sure the people who didn't activate your gift still appreciated it nonetheless.

I would seek help if I were in your place, not many live through such a tragedy. But know that, life is long, and for every person who doesn't thank there are 10 other out there who does, so there is still hope, so don't let go of it!

I was even more nervous because I wasn't chose randomly:
it was a thief giveaway, a I love steath games, a must have, and I commented something saying "I really want this cuz I love steath games and this is a must have, Thank you so much for the chance"; he added me and told me that he canceled the GA cuz he wanted to give to someone that actually play it. Now you understand why I didn't know what to say ;)
Now I can't pass the 1st level because I get lost xP

If you do something nice only to receive appreciation, you're a douche bag.

Calling them out about it (a second time) proves a new level of whiney fucktardiness.

No, I would much rather no reply than anything else, which was what I was implying, if you got any other message, you're completely wrong. Secondly, you can go ahead, be aggressive, it'll make you look like a jackass, while I really don't mind. So go ahead, whine more. I respect your opinion whereas I hope you do the same.

I always saw it as more of a WHAMbulance.

You know, like this thing that hits you out of nowhere and sends you to the hospital.

That could explain why no one was amused when they said my little sister needed the whambulance and I THREW HER TO THE GROUND.

Sure. Even with only a couple of giveaways I've had people overflowing with gratitude for what I see as utterly terrible games not worth my time and also got the 'yo, gimme my free shit man, hurry up' side of it too.

But that is ok, because it isn't about ME.

why do you even expect the winner to thank you....it's now like you're such a generous guy and you just enjoy making other people happy by gifting them games on SG....the way i see it, this whole thing is just a business....you're just trying to get your CV a little higher so you can win more games...you don't care about the poor :|

Yea, I saw that. But it is possible to make topics that aren't complaining about the same thing you already complained about in a previous thread, and hide a giveaway in that. Maybe I'm bitter but this thread feels like 50% "I want more attention for my shitty problem" and 50% "here's a game". So kudos for giving away the game, but it's cancelled out by the first part.
