Hey Mully, I remember you replied in a thread about an extension that hides thread. I thought I bookmarked it but apparently I did not. Would you mind pointing me back to the comment which is within a week and there were replies like "What you can hide threads?". I was going to reply "What Magic and Sorcery is this!" - which I may have but I have forgotten about. Kindly, point me to the right direction which I very much appreciates.
Warmest Regards and Seasonal Cheers, Cruse~ ^__^

Just click on the ESGT "button" at the top of the page and there you can implement whatever feature you want to have. It's under discussion I believe, it's a long list but it's there somewhere where you can add the hide discussion feature. That should add an eye icon beside each discussion to hide it if you want.
If you have more question just let me know:)

This is neat, but the snow effect is lagging out my browser to hell and back. Could we at least have an option to disable it?

It seems like I can make another box, but without going through the process I cannot be 100% sure.

Multiple is allowed though I don't know if there is a hard cap.

There's no limit on the number of holiday giveaways you are able to create. Secondly, you're right, there's no direct way to know the creator of a gift box without opening it. I just removed the displayed creation times from the gift boxes to make it more difficult as well.

Uhm, so here's a pretty big [in terms of potential impact, rather than in scale of effect] issue.
The submission rate is extremely high, and they're sorted exclusively by most recently created.
I got 4 entries right away, but I haven't gotten any in the following hours.
Since these are invite giveaways, that means there'll be no CV for fewer than 5 entries?
That's kinda a stress for a multi-copy giveaway..
This event might have a pretty big oversight in its design.. :X
[Note: If you're not putting up high level and/or region-restricted and/or DLC giveaways, you're pretty assuredly not going to bump into this concern, since your initial entry count will be multiplied. The topic here is one of the significant decline on entries after the first hour of a giveaway being posted, not on being unable to get entries from the start.]
(Followup: I haven't had issues with entries since the filters got added, though that may also be benefitting from my giveaway being fairly early in rather than a few pages later on. My total entries are still only 17, however.)

I was a little bit concerned when I first read your comment, but now, when I made two boxes I would say it's not a "pretty big issue", it's not an issue at all. First GA was made when there were still old limits (1 box per 12 jours), and even back then it got enough entries in a few minutes. Of course the one I made recently got even more. So, not getting 5 entries is as probable as with a public giveaway, nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't expect anything else.
I'd also be disappointed with everything else

This is great, inception box is my favorite so far.

Hey! This is a lovely event and I'm excited to open gifts! Thank you for this!
I was wondering if there was a way to put up a warning on the gift selection page for each gift that states whether you own the game or not. Most of the time I'll click a box and it'll say I already own it.
Thanks!

Yup there's a block in place for owned games, probably not perfect but should prevent from getting constant dupes.

Hey! Yeah, I'm aware of that one, it is helpful, though what I was getting at was one on the gift selection screen (where all 9 gifts of that page are laid out), that way I don't have to click every single gift to find out if I own it or not.
Thanks for the response though!

I was wondering if we could change it to two every 24 hours instead, I don't always get the time in mornings before the regular dinner time internet 12 hours later :/ Having to wait for a countdown on the spot has been a pet peeve, you end up with random mismatched timings sooner or later. I enjoy the event idea though, very fun.

Having to wait for a countdown on the spot has been a pet peeve
Peeve? Oh, yes, I quite get that.
A straight dynamic timer is, imo, flat out disfavorable. Either use a standardized timer (though that puts us back to requiring 24 hour resets), let us set the reset point, or force-set it to the time when we first activated it. Dynamic timers are annoying even in the microtransaction games they're usually a part of, the end up being pretty nonsense for anything intended to be handled with actual respect towards the userbase.
Nevermind that even those games that do use dynamic timers typically give a [usually -2 hours per 24 hours] reduction window so that users don't have to stress about meeting the exact time or slowly creeping up the time as they continue on. Yeah, (without additional checks) that leaves room for more active users to get a bit more benefit but, hey, still feels less screwy toward the users. :P
I enjoy the event idea though, very fun.
I can't remember the last time I felt so inclined to do a non-SGT, non-group giveaway. :P

If the game is removed from Steam, and you didn't win it through SG, I'm pretty sure the site can't properly get ownership data.
The same is true for any DLCs that may be in holiday boxes. Theoretically, perhaps cg should try and see if he can't add a filter for those but, inherently, it's an issue with Steam not properly sending ownership data.
For anything else, it should be a bug, since the listed event rules state that it already filters out against owned content (though that's a long-standing core SG entry filter, so there shouldn't be any issue with it).

Just a lotta problems, then. :P
Might be good if the event had a notification stating that (DLCs, Removed Games, and Steam Is Learning games) are problematic, to discourage their inclusion. Other than that, can't really see a real fix for it. I mean, DLCs should be able to be filtered out, given that SG already has a base-game-detection element, but the other two seem unapprocable from SG's end.

you thought i wasn't going to complain? ^^
No spoilers.
despite the new rule, this event encourages groups to share their finds while the rest of us click on 2 boxes per day and hope we don't either hit a 10 cent game or something we hid on sg. ┐(ツ)┌

We only have 10 fingers and 10 toes to cover all the Leaks! Not Enough!!! And nice insight, Maybe there should be a randomizer in the background where each gift clicked will not be the same gift. There's always oversight in applications. Hopefully this get sorted out soon. :D Cheers~

The issue isn't of clicking, but of distinct URL locations. Honestly "the box with [screenshot:] this art has this" is a pretty inefficient method of spoiler-ing. Masking urls is enough to severely handicap the process. A further limitation could be one of simply allocating [eg, 20] gift boxes per user per 12 hours [or 40 per 24] which, combined with the high submission rate we're seeing, should effectively all-but-stop exploitation.. but it's too late to implement that for this particular event, now.

Well, Well, I didnt realise the URLs. I am just a happy user, clicking on the present. BOOM! NSFW, Age Checker on Steam! I didn't think too much except it being an event to enjoy. Winning or not is Secondary for me. That said, we do have to think, review and feedback for future events or the very least, highlight the issue. I think the limitation on gift boxes will severely hinder the Holiday spirit and I echo TempeteJoachim's idea of added filtering.
Cheers @Sooth, Cruse~

Well, standardizing boxes (until you click on them) and masking URLs seems like the simplest fix, as I suggested elsewhere, but, as I noted here, just masking URLs should be enough to put a wrench in things without affecting the event at all for non-exploitative users.

this is just like people using scripts or bots to have an advantage over others (yes, we know there are still autojoiners around).
as usual, the "normal/honest" user has to click and wait 12 hours like an idiot, while groups can share their finds X times faster, where X is the amount of users they have.

Indeed, I agree with the sentiments and script users. As long as site where there are gains there will be abusers. Quite sad that programming generally is abused on sites like this. Although greater good like the WWW has come from programming.
I am that Idiot ^__^ while I am not actively participating in groups that condone such actions. I hope you have a Fine day ahead, Warmest Regards, Cruse~

then no one would waste time customizing their box.
sharing links won't work anyway.
You cannot join a giveaway by only having the direct link. If you did not open the corresponding gift box, but received the link from someone else, you will see an error when attempting to view the giveaway.

It would be nice if there was some kind of filter to either block boxes of games we have filtered on SG or highlight games on our wishlist. With 1 box every 12 hours, I think we will be able to open around 43-45 boxes and there are already 58 available at less than 3 hours into the event. Being completely random and only being able to view a very small fraction of the giveaways will probably not turn out well for the people that only enter for games they want to play, but will be fine for the people that just want to +1 their Steam account.
Other than that, it seems like a fun event :)
Edit: Or, if you don't want to filter the boxes, what about allowing us to see more giveaways by have the site give users a certain number of boxes to open once per day and have the number we can open change based on how many boxes have been created. Keep it at 2 per day now and when we hit something like 200 created, start giving out 3 per day. Then bump it up to 4 per day once we hit something like 300 created. Use numbers so that we can't ever open all the boxes, but we don't get stuck with opening only 45 out of 500 or 1000 if it gets that high.
Edit 2: I'm not sure how everyone would feel about this, but it might not be a bad idea to prevent boxes being created for games that have been given away for free.

Hi SG,
Happy holidays! We have a holiday event starting now and ending on December 25. The event allows users to create custom gift boxes which can be opened by others in the community to reveal giveaways. To get started, follow the below link to browse all of the available gift boxes, or to create one of your own.

How it works
Creating a gift box and giveaway
Opening gift boxes
No spoilers. Please do not share what games you found or what was contained inside of a gift box.
If you have any questions, please ask. I'm looking forward to seeing all the gift box designs. I'll add a few throughout the month with Steam gift cards and games as well. Have fun!
