I am old enough to know them. ;) But germany isn't a great example for music, like the guy who was behind Milli Vanilli and Boney M (who both playbacked). But ehrrr the eighties wasn't also the best decade of music (beside a few examples).
But i can't say i would easilly fall in love with an artist anymore the last 15 years either, most don't even sing for real anymore but all autotune, or just the same dime a dozen. Maybe i am old.
And honestly coldplay did start out great with songs like trouble.

Oh, I didn't want to offend you - or say that you are old. :)
Ralph Siegel - yes, a bad example for good music.
And you already mentioned it: Back then it was playback - today it's Autotune. Sure, not for every artist, but for many.
It depends. I really like NDW and also Rock and especially Metal from the Eighties. But Mainstream wasn't very good back then.

Not offended just cynical calling myself old :), last week i saw a news item about senior activity with 90+ women painting, and was asked what the minimum age would be to be considered a senior, 55 and i was like great that's not so far away from me.
But better getting old then the alternatives eh.
Yeah kinda the same how rap was different (and sitll better) in the nineties.
I sometimes do feel sad you don't easily get wowed anymore by modern music, gotye - someone that i used to know, kings of leon -sex on fire, or perhaps an Adela, like those are like a handful, why most of my music puzzles are older songs.
And as time passes and those artists from "our era" they also get older and eventually even die, like i was a great fan of David Bowie and died just a bit too young (and in his last 10 years he didn't made much music).

Ok :)
I see, we are in the same age range. I still haven't the "5" as the first number, but it's not far away.
I get your point and feel the same. For me, today's music all sound the same - with some exceptions.
Oh yes, David Bowie, he was a great artist!

44 (but time seeems to fly, when you get older) and i also still want and hope to get children and we men don't have the same limits as women but i do want someone a bit around my age eventually.
Yeah i am very blessed that i have seen a concert of him (Reality tour) which later i got a bootleg which was filmed behind me).
And my dad had an acquaintance who worked at KLM (dutch airline) and he managed to have a talk with him during a flight, how many would not seclude themselves and just think and say bugger off? Shows more to me how he was also a nice man.

I love snap!, eurodance was much dutch/germany but hey it also created scooter with his awful yelling in his songs.
But behind Falco were the dutch brothers Bolland (they even made a musical) they also made the song you're in the army now from Status Quo (originally the brothers sung it, but they got a hit with it).
Oh and Mo-do.

I think it's beautiful but I like Coldplay and grew up watching Dick Van Dyke. He's still quite a character even at 99.
