Forever ago, before IdleMaster and Archie's Steam Farm existed, there was a way for us to trick the Steam client into thinking that we were playing a game that we didn't even have downloaded. That would be SUPER-helpful for this event... Does anyone remember how to do it?

You needed to own and downloaded game which had steamappid.txt file (or something like that) in its directory. Faking was done by editing number in it.

The game was Spacewar and as juzer said the file you edit in its directory is steam_appid.txt

How exactly do you do this? I have edited the steam_appid of L4D2 to the id of another game, then what? Do you launch the .exe or?

Hmm. For some reason it doesn't work for me. I edited L4D2's appid file and added another game's app id. then save and close the file. But it still launches L4D2 normally and it reverts back to the L4D2 appid.

Is there any advantage in participating daily, or is it just leveling up the badge?

To get the full level of the badge (3 or 4? It says level 3 is 1 less than all tasks... if that's it, or there's a bonus level 4 for all I don't know) you need to participate daily.

No, daily tasks don't seem to give drops right now. Only project trophies do I guess.

I didn't get anything for completing the project trophies either, just day one's daily tasks.

You get the drops for doing 5 "things" (and thus unlocking the badge).
It took about 10 minutes after doing 5 objectives before I got the stuff and badge though.

Are you sure about that? On day one I did the daily tasks first and immediately got the drops and the badge after doing the last daily task. I then did all but one of the projects. Today (day 2), I did the 3 daily tasks and the last project, and the badge leveled up but no drops.

Missed day 1 entirely. What sucks, is that the Level 3 badge requires at least 16 tasks to be completed, of which, there are only 15 possible within days 2, 3, and 4. It is clear that the 2 tasks allowed to be missed are targeted towards the 6 tasks that can be completed in ANY of the 4 days available, one of which that some people are never able to complete, First game ever added.

Interesting. Yesterday is was 17 tasks for level 3, now it's only 16. Wonder if they changed it due to some people having issues with Nostalgia and first played game and all.

We might get lucky it could be 10% off Bad Rats. But on a serious note "This item might be useful in a future sale." it is either a coupon or could be something interesting if they are doing a free game under a certain price or something like that not sure what else it could be but most likely a crappy coupon.

Well it was nice. Playing a lot of different games for like 1 or 2 hours during a single weekend is the complete opposite of how I usually do, but it was an interesting change of pace (I probably wouldn't do that during a longer event though, it's a bit too hectic for me). Although the "spin cycle" task was pretty awful. Picking only 4 games for it (with a high chance of getting games you already finished and had no intention of playing again) was stupid when you had four times as many choices for the "backlog" task.

Yeah some of the choices steam gave were very limited and for some reason sometimes some of the categories gave varying different amount of choices and like you said I had tons of extras they could have given, sometimes a category only gave 2 choices even though I had a lot more and sometimes it gave 3 rows of choices. It was still a fun event though played a couple games I didn't before but also had to install a couple big games I had already finished.
