I am gonna put it up to the workshop pretty soon. So many people interested, I am just gonna put it there :D.
I don't want to make too many updates to the workshop though since I don't know how that influences the competition. :)

Hey scorcher looks good man for a 1st game :) i hope you have great success with it !
I have played a few games of that genre and i think i can help you out by testing the game ...
I am a software engineer myself and been a gamer since 1997 and i have had some good ideas in mind but wasn't able to share them ... atleast i didn't have the chance until now... :)
I think i can be a good asset ... so keep me in mind !

Wow, Nice for your first game. I can volunteer and review the game for you if you want
I can even do a youtube video playtrhough while talking about it
I'm not very famous though, I just do random gameplay vids. Already like have 120k vid views and that's it

Thanks for all kind words, I replaced the video with the current version :D.

Hi. Congratz on the game. :)
A few things from the video. These are just my suggestions. :)
1) The horizontal speed needs to be increased, most of the challenge of the genre comes from dodging and having to keep moving.
2) Maybe setting the enemies to "spawn" just outside the screen so they dont pop in, give them a first shot delay to make sure you dont get random bullets from unseen enemies.
3) Debris on the enemies, can be just a little non persisten scrap after the explosion.
You've done a good job so far. :) but iam sure you can polish it up and get even better.

They do spawn outside the screen, at -32, -32 :). In 2D it just looks like that :(. I also need to improve placing them.
But I will probably add hardcoded spawnpoints.. gonna see.

It was a bug that the ships did not attack. I fixed that though.

As a first game, it's quite impressive. Congrats!
No time to beta test atm, but I'll sure be looking for it in the Workshop.

No. You only need to learn Game-Maker Language. You can learn it on-line on forums which is not that hard. Also, you can script inside the program and make the sprites/graphics. You can also use other spriting programs such as Gimp;Photoshop;etc. So, you don't need to be an expert to use this program. Your Welcome!

I had (graphics and non graphics, C++ and various scripts) programming experience before so GML and the program itself was very easy to learn for me. But I am sure anyone can learn it, if you stick with it.

Alright so..
1)You could just take out that upgrading system on levels. You could make some kind of currency and each time you destroy ships, you need to pick up the money and scrap and with those, you can upgrade your ship when you kill the boss and get to the shop.
2)You should move faster. Dodging..
3)More ships, and more types of bosses.
Reply here if you want to add something.

1.) Mhh, I stick with this. My main inspiration is among others Nation Red, so it stays that way. Sorry.
2.) Yeah, agree. Implemented.
3.) For the final version I will do more bosses and more enemies. For now there is not enough time for that.

I liked it, and I know it's only a teaser. But I'd like to suggest the following:
-Maybe introducing more types of enemies would be great. Or at least making them have more different attacks. I honestly don't know how difficult it is, I've never made a game myself so I'm saying it with complete ignorace of the matter. But for example the boss having two different attacks.
-Then if I were you I'll chage the perks to one of the following (This is all IMHO)
+Using tech trees (Or constellation as in Skyrim)
+Buying pieces for you spaceship to improve
+Keeping the current system but giving them "cool" names.
And could you explain to me how the base life works? It decreases everytime a ship goes past you? I didn't get it right.
Anyways I did like it, seemed fun, a bit too easy if only and the models are quite good too! Good job! :D

Yes, everytime an enemy slips past you he is gonna attack your base and then return to the mothership to refuel and rearm. Okay this is just theoretical, but hey some imagination is required :p.

Oh cool. Then your ship just respawns when it's destroyed and you only lose when the Base is? You get new ships from base if they are destroyed? Infinite ships? You can lose by both having your ship or you base blown up?
Sorry for so many questions. But I have doubts :-p
BTW: Liked the idea :D

If either your ship or your base gets destroyed, you lose :).

Remember a while back, when I said I want to make a game?
Well, I recently purchased GameMaker Studio and began the work. It is just a small game for now, but I worked hard on it.
Want a little teaser?

It is a robotron clone in space, where accuracy matters. Of course you can have perks and a second ship to unlock.
The good news: It is gonna be for free on the workshop soon.
But before it hits the general public, I need some volunteers. You need to like shmups and have an eye for this genre.
I'd like you to play my game (for more than 5 minutes) and tell me what you think and what I could do to improve it.
Basically I am asking for a beta tester.
I invested a lot of money (150$, only for software and other things needed) in this free game, so I hope someone will volunteer :D.
Just write here that you are interested and I'll chose someone :D.
Edit
What do you guys think about those changed and experimental screens:

Edit 2
Hey guys, a little update: I have decided to overhaul some of the games systems, so it is gonna take a few days more. Sorry for that, but sometimes you have to do stuff like that when you make a bad call. But I wanna come up with a good game that is fun and challenging to play.
When I have done that, I am gonna upload it and you can all try it out and comment on balance and everything.
But a little teaser in the meanwhile.
